Chapter 469 Lu Jin’an’s Agony 2
by 饭碗114Chapter 469: Lu Jin'an's Agony, Part 2
Just as Lu Jin'an was on the verge of collapsing, Zhang Wenyan appeared. Seemingly unaware of his turmoil, she enthusiastically thanked him for his heroic rescue.
She even wrote a letter of gratitude to Lu Jin'an’s workplace, bolstering his wilting confidence again. The flattery and congratulations from his colleagues made his ego swell like never before.
Previously, the Ais had held back, but now, seizing this opportunity, Chen Aru finally made an appearance.
"Xiao Lu, well done! Auntie always knew I had good judgment about you. Everything you’ve done for Xiaoqing, I’ve seen it all. Don’t worry, just keep doing your best."
With just a few words, Chen Aru steadied Lu Jin'an’s faltering resolve.
He felt that Zhang Wenyan was nothing short of his saving grace. He hadn’t done much—just happened to encounter Zhang Wenyan being chased during his patrol. He showed up, the other party fled, and the frightened Zhang Wenyan latched onto him, showering him with thanks. In truth, Lu Jin'an hadn’t even gotten a clear look at the person chasing her.
Yet, it had earned him such a stroke of luck—such prestige—and finally elicited a response from the Ai family, whom he had been waiting for.
He was grateful to Zhang Wenyan.
And so, when they coincidentally met again and Zhang Wenyan invited him to dinner under the guise of gratitude, he agreed without a second thought.
Zhang Wenyan was easy on the eyes, and the way she looked at Lu Jin'an was filled with open admiration, as if gazing at her hero.
She was straightforward and carefree, nothing like Su Jiao, Ai Xiaoqing, or even Lu Yazhi.
Lu Jin'an felt completely at home around Zhang Wenyan—it had been so long since he’d felt this relaxed.
Outside the restaurant, Ai Xiaoqing, wearing a hat and mask, watched the two laughing and chatting inside. Instinctively, she wanted to clench her fists, but her hands barely twitched.
Inside, Zhang Wenyan kept piling food onto Lu Jin'an’s plate.
When she ate something spicy, she picked up the cup Lu Jin'an had drunk from and downed a gulp like it was nothing.
Lu Jin'an’s gaze lingered on the cup for a moment. Zhang Wenyan waved her small hand in front of his face. "Comrade Lu, what’s got you so distracted? Come on, eat! Here, try this fish."
She picked up a piece of fish belly and held it out to him. "The fish at this place is to die for, I’m telling you. Give it a try."
Lu Jin'an stared blankly at the chopsticks extended toward his mouth. Zhang Wenyan blinked her big eyes and urged him, "Hurry up, it’s going to fall!"
Her directness made her seem like a wide-eyed innocent.
Lu Jin'an had never experienced anything like this before. Both Su Jiao and Ai Xiaoqing had been fragile and doe-eyed, but Zhang Wenyan was lively, cheerful, and unconstrained—like a ray of sunshine.
"I—I’ll do it myself. Thank you," Lu Jin'an said, reaching out with his own chopsticks to take the fish from hers.
Outside, Ai Xiaoqing shook with fury as she watched Zhang Wenyan repeatedly make intimate advances toward her husband.
"I knew someone would try to steal Jin'an from me! No wonder he’s been less patient with me lately—it’s because some two-bit floozy is seducing him outside!"
Ai Xiaoqing waited at the entrance until the two finished their meal and Lu Jin'an lingered before leaving. Then, she lunged at Zhang Wenyan, swinging her frail arm to slap her across the face. "You filthy slut! How dare you steal my man!!"
Zhang Wenyan retaliated with a slap of her own. "Don’t you dare slander me! Who’s stealing your man?!"
The force of the blow sent Ai Xiaoqing crashing into the doorframe, her mask and hat falling off, setting off a wave of gasps from the surrounding crowd.
"Aaaah!"
Ai Xiaoqing completely lost her mind, standing up and lunging at Zhang Wenyan, "It's you, it's you, you fucking bitch, you damn whore! You stole my man! That man you just had dinner with is my husband! I have a marriage certificate, I have a marriage certificate..."
Zhang Wenyan truly didn’t know Lu Jin’an was married, and she hadn’t crossed any lines—just thanked him for saving her and treated him to a meal.
Seeing the surrounding crowd pointing fingers at her, she immediately started clawing at Xiaoqing.
"That's bullshit! I was just thanking him for saving me and treating him to a meal. Who’s stealing your husband? You keep calling me a whore—stop slandering me!"
Ai Xiaoqing was hysterical, "You are a whore! You were all over him, and you still deny you’re selling yourself? He’s married, you shameless bitch!"
Zhang Wenyan, unable to break free from the crazed Ai Xiaoqing, grew furious, "Let go of me! Even if I were a whore, what business is it of yours who your man's with?
If you’re mad, go yell at your man! Why come after me? Are you insane?
Accusing every woman of being a whore—if you’re so tough, why don’t you cut your man’s balls off and tie him to your belt? If you can’t do that, stop bitching at me like I’m your mother, spoiling you!!!!"
"Ahhhh~, I’ll kill you!"
Half an hour later.
Ai Xiaoqing and Zhang Wenyan were taken away by patrolling Community Police Officers.
As soon as Ai Xiaoqing entered, she threw herself at Lu Jin’an, sobbing hysterically.
Zhang Wenyan, even more aggrieved, now seemed justified despite starting the fight. "Officer Lu, is this your wife? I just treated you to a meal to thank you for helping me so much. The moment you left, she dragged me around and beat me, calling me a whore. You better fucking explain this, waaah... I’m not even married yet, and now I’ve lost all face."
She glanced disdainfully at the scar on Ai Xiaoqing’s face. "Even if she’s... you know, she shouldn’t be so hostile to other young women... How could someone as good as Officer Lu end up with someone so..."
Lu Jin’an’s face flushed crimson with shame.
He wished he could vanish into the ground—he was the one who truly had no face left.
He felt everyone’s eyes boring into him.
His wife’s unsightly appearance and disgraceful behavior had humiliated him beyond words.
He could almost hear the mocking, scornful whispers, making him want to crawl out of his skin.
But before he could even open his mouth to reprimand her, Ai Xiaoqing’s body went limp, slumping unconscious to the floor.
Forcing himself to maintain his caring husband act, he caught Ai Xiaoqing and shouted in panic, "Xiaoqing, Xiaoqing, are you okay?"
"I’m so sorry, Comrade Zhang. My wife is ill—she’s been under a lot of stress from treatment lately, and she's been emotionally unstable. She took it out on you, and I sincerely apologize on her behalf."
Using the excuse of taking his wife to the hospital, Lu Jin’an, with the help of a colleague, carried Ai Xiaoqing out as if fleeing.
Behind him, hushed murmurs followed: "I always thought Xiao Lu’s wife was some stunning beauty, given how devoted he was to her. Who would’ve thought..."
"Yeah, but looks-wise, they’re a perfect match. They're equally matched."
