Chapter 574: I Won’t Let Anyone Hurt Brother Su Ping
by 饭碗114Chapter 574: I Won’t Let Anyone Hurt Su Ping
Once they got home, Su An pulled Ren Shan into the room and asked her brother to keep watch in the yard to prevent anyone from approaching.
Ren Shan, who had remained calm under the intense police interrogation earlier, now began to feel uneasy.
After all, Su Jianjun was Su An and Su Ping’s biological father. Had she gone too far?
Su Ping might not understand what she had done, but Su An was too smart to be fooled. Would Su An be angry?
Would she blame her?
"Su An..." Ren Shan’s voice carried a hint of grievance.
Su An glared at her and said sternly, "Now you’re scared?"
Ren Shan lowered her head, bit her lip, then looked up at Su An with determination. "He hurt Grandma. Su Ping was devastated—he cried so hard, worse than when he got shot last time."
"He also caused trouble for Auntie at the shop and waylaid Su Ping on his way home. This time, he hurt Grandma. Who knows what he’ll do next? What if he hurts Su Ping?"
"I won’t let anyone hurt Su Ping. Not even a chance of it—I won’t let it happen!"
Su An looked at Ren Shan’s serious little face and reached out to pat her head. "You think I’m angry with you for getting Su Jianjun arrested?"
"I’m worried about you. I know you’re smart, and I know how much you care about Brother. But you’re only seventeen. If something had gone wrong..."
Su An’s eyes flickered with concern. "Outside the police station, Brother and I were so worried about you. Do you know how worried we were?"
"If Mom found out, she’d be restless too. Su Jianjun may deserve it, but you’re our family. We don’t want you taking such risks."
The coldness on Ren Shan’s face faded as she took Su An’s hand. "Su An, I’ll be fine. Besides, he’s your and Su Ping’s father. It’s not your place to handle him—it’s better if I do it."
"You’re all so important to me. I don’t want him always a threat to us. Things will only get better from here, but people are greedy. As long as he’s around, he’s a danger to our family. We can’t watch our backs forever—we’re bound to slip up sometime."
"If you, Auntie, or Grandma get hurt, Su Ping and I will be heartbroken. I don’t want to regret it after something happens."
Su An sighed. "No matter what, you have to put yourself first before anything else. You don’t want us hurt, and the same goes for us—Mom, Brother, and I don’t want you hurt either. We’re family."
"Su An, I understand. I won’t act on my own again without telling you. I’ll discuss things with you."
Su An nodded and asked again, "Are you really fine this time? Did you cover all your tracks?"
Ren Shan smiled confidently. "Su An, it’s fine. I was careful to cover my tracks—they can’t pin anything on me."
Before Su Jianjun’s verdict was even decided, Wang Xiaocui and Wang Yongzheng brought Li Yulan home from the provincial capital.
Li Yulan’s condition couldn’t be improved. With today’s medicine, not even the hospitals in the provincial capital could help—let alone those in the southern city of Yangcheng or even the major hospitals in the capital.
The blood clot affecting her nerves had left her unable to walk or speak.
But she could hear, and she was fully aware.
Zuo Zuying asked about her condition and shook his head at Su An. Even with better medicine later, the best they could do was conservative treatment.
Given Li Yulan’s age and her generally poor health, she couldn’t handle major surgery.
All they could do was manage her condition and let her rest.
When Su Ping heard that Grandma couldn’t be cured and would remain like this, he turned away to hide his tears again.
Li Yulan looked at the heavy atmosphere in the room and struggled to wave her hand at everyone, gesturing that she was okay and telling them not to worry.
At her age, even without this incident, her days were numbered anyway.
The kids are all dutiful, and now their lives have improved. The younger generation is also promising. Even if she were to pass, she could close her eyes in peace.
Wang Yongzheng squatted at the door smoking, yelling that he’d go kill Su Jianjun.
Su An stopped him, "Uncle, there’s no need for you to do it. He’s done so many bad things that karma’s finally got him."
Wang Xiaocui turned to look at Su An, who didn’t hide the truth from everyone. Keeping Ren Shan out of it, she briefly explained what had happened.
"Ji Qingqing had an affair, and Su Jianjun caught her. He poisoned her with rat poison, and Ji Qingqing died. Her lover’s in the hospital too, and it looks bad. Su Jianjun has already been arrested and will likely face execution. Even if he isn’t executed, he’s locked up for good."
Wang Yongzheng’s gaze darkened as he looked at Su An. He opened his mouth as if to say something but remained silent.
Wang Xiaocui froze for a second, her expression complicated. "An An..."
Su An knew exactly what Wang Xiaocui and Wang Yongzheng were thinking. "Uncle, Mom, I had nothing to do with it. He brought this on himself. If it weren’t for my brother accidentally letting it slip over the phone, I wouldn’t even have known. By the time I got back, he had already been arrested."
Wang Xiaocui secretly breathed a sigh of relief. After all, Su Jianjun was Su An’s father. If folks found out Su An was involved, it could damage her reputation.
There was no need to ruin An An’s name over that bastard.
Hearing that Su Jianjun had been arrested, the Wang family finally felt some of the bottled-up anger ease. Even Li Yulan weakly patted her knee with her one movable hand, expressing satisfaction.
The entire Wang family loathed Su Jianjun, but he was still Su An and Su Ping’s father. Now that An An and Ping Ping were successful, they feared he’d keep harassing them.
People always side with the underdog. If Su Jianjun kept making demands, Su Ping and Su An would either be morally pressured into giving in—leaving them bitter—or refusing and dealing with the constant trouble and damage to their reputations.
After all, neither of them was married yet. But now, the problem had been resolved once and for all.
Dinner was a feast, with Su Ping as the main cook. Everyone ate at Wang Yongzheng’s house, and Wang Yongshun and Liu Xiaomei also came.
For Li Yulan’s hospital stay, the medical expenses and care were covered by Wang Xiaocui and Wang Yongzheng’s families. Liu Xiaomei withdrew 500 yuan and bought many things for Li Yulan.
Zhang Shuangshuang pushed the money Liu Xiaomei offered back. "We’ll accept the things you bought for Mom, but keep the money. It didn’t cost much anyway."
Wang Yongshun said in a low voice, "Shuangshuang, just take it. You know how things are with our eldest brother—he’s good-for-nothing, and Xiaomei can’t leave home. Mom has been taken care of by Yongzheng and our eldest sister all this time. Now that our lives are better, this is just our way of saying thanks. If you don’t accept it, I’ll feel terrible."
"All these years, Mom has been under your care, and I haven’t been able to do my part as a filial son. If you still refuse this, I’d be too ashamed to face everyone."
