Chapter 567: Su Ping Gets Scared and Seeks Shan Shan

Su Ping was an obedient kid. He immediately turned his bicycle around, planning to loop around through another alley.

Seeing Su Ping turn away, Su Jianjun instantly understood his intention.

"Hey, hey! What’s your problem, kid? I’m your father! You’re running just ’cause you see me? Is this how your mother and teachers taught you to behave?" Su Jianjun dashed to the other intersection at his fastest speed, grabbed the bike’s handlebars and barked.

    Su Ping glared. "Get off!!!"

Su Jianjun was furious. "Listen here, you little—"

Just as he was about to scold Su Ping, the cold stare snapped Su Jianjun back to his goal.

His tone softened. "Ah, Ping’er, are you still mad at Dad?"

"I know I messed up. I was a bit too strict with you and An An before, but it was all for your own good—to make something of you. Look how successful you and An An are now! If Dad hadn’t disciplined you strictly back then, would you two have achieved so much? They say spare the rod, spoil the child..."

Su Jianjun went on and on earnestly, pulling Su Ping aside to explain, insisting that everything he had done was for their benefit.

In Su Ping’s mind: *An An said Su Jianjun isn’t the same as us. Not our kind, can’t trust their mind. No matter what he says, don’t listen, don’t listen, don’t understand.*

Su Jianjun: "Ah, I didn’t consider how young you were back then. Dad regrets it now and wants to make it up to you. We share the same blood—no beef lasts between father and son!"

In Su Ping’s mind: *An An said to be obedient. If Su Jianjun and Ji Qingqing try to get you to go with them, absolutely refuse. They’re liars. If he talks about blood ties and making amends, he’s definitely plotting something bad—either to hurt you or use you to hurt me and Mom. So if he really comes to say these things, punch him hard.*

As Su Jianjun continued spilling his guts, trying to move Su Ping with fatherly love, Su Ping pressed his lips together, clenched his right fist, flexed his biceps, and with a powerful swing, laid into Su Jianjun’s face.

    WHAM!

The punch landed with a sharp crack, lifting him clean off his feet and sending him flying backward.

Then came a heavy thump as he crashed onto the pavement like a sack of potatoes.

Didn’t even make a sound—he just lay there, motionless, unconscious.

Su Ping was scared. *An An said to hit hard, so I did. But why isn’t Su Jianjun crying? Or moving? Or making any noise? Did I kill him?*

    He panicked. *So scared.*

    *Go home, find Shan Shan.*

*An An said if there’s trouble, find Shan Shan. Shan Shan is smart.*

Without even glancing at Su Jianjun crumpled by the wall, Su Ping booked it on his bike, his sneakers slapping the pavement, pedals spinning so fast they could’ve caught fire.

Only one thought filled his mind: *An An said if something happens, find Shan Shan. Hurry, find Shan Shan. Listen to Shan Shan. Don’t make decisions on your own.*

    Fuqing Street.

Wang Xiaocui hadn’t made it home yet. Ren Shan glanced at the wall clock—Su Ping should have been off work by now. She stood up and turned on the light outside the door.

Sure enough, she soon heard movement outside.

Smiling, she looked toward the entrance. "Brother Su Ping~, you’re off early today? Three minutes ahead of schedule! Watch the road—no need to speed~"

Su Ping was gasping for air.

The smile faded from Ren Shan's face. "What's wrong?"

Su Ping looked like a child who had done something wrong, his voice shaky with panic. "Shan Shan, I think I killed Su Jianjun."

Ren Shan's expression turned cold. "What happened? Did Su Jianjun cause trouble for you?"

Su Ping nodded nervously. "He cornered me in the alley after work, saying he regretted treating me badly before and wanted to make it up to me. An An said he's probably setting me up and told me to punch him hard."

"I listened to An An and punched him right in the face. He went flying and hit the ground. He didn’t move, no scream, no moan. I think he might be dead."

Seeing Su Ping’s distress, Ren Shan quickly patted his shoulder reassuringly. "It’s okay. Take me there."

"Oh." Su Ping exhaled in relief, the tension slowly leaving his body as if he had found his anchor. He immediately turned his bike around.

Once Ren Shan climbed onto the back, he hurriedly pedaled toward Good Luck Restaurant without waiting for her to speak.

"Shan Shan, he’s right there. Look, he hasn't moved at all." Su Ping pushed his bike and pointed at the dimly lit corner.

Ren Shan followed his finger and saw a dark shape lying completely still. If Su Ping hadn't said anything, she would have thought it was just a discarded sack.

Su Ping said nervously. "He stopped me at the alley entrance. An An told me to turn if I ever saw them, so I ducked down this side alley. But he came at me and grabbed my handlebars, not letting me leave."

Ren Shan reassured him, "It’s okay, Su Ping. Don't worry. Let me check."

She glanced around—no one was nearby. If he really was dead, they could just make the body disappear. But she couldn’t let Su Ping know he had killed someone, or he’d be terrified.

Ren Shan walked toward Su Jianjun, her flashlight flickering briefly before turning off again.

In that brief flash, she'd gotten a good look. She groped in the dark and felt for Su Jianjun’s neck, checking his pulse and breathing.

Then she turned to the anxious Su Ping. "Su Ping, he’s not dead. Just knocked out."

Su Ping sighed in relief. "That’s good. He’s not dead."

Ren Shan turned on her flashlight and rolled Su Jianjun onto his back, making a face at his swollen features.

She waved Su Ping over. "Su Ping, come here."

Su Ping parked his bike and obediently walked over.

Ren Shan pointed at Su Jianjun’s body and face. "Look, next time, hit here. This spot won’t kill. Don’t hit here—this spot can kill. Only aim for this spot if your life's in danger..."

Su Ping listened carefully, then pointed at Su Jianjun and repeated, "Got it. Hit here—won’t kill. Don’t hit there unless my life is in danger. Shan Shan, I’ll remember."

"You catch on quick, Su Ping."

At her praise, Su Ping scratched his head sheepishly. "Hehe, Shan Shan, am I gonna be okay?"

"No, what trouble? It’s so dark out—he was lying in wait to jump you. He's the criminal here..."

"Shan Shan, so what should we do with him?"

What to do? If he came to ambush Su Ping, it must've been because he had too much time on his hands and wanted trouble.

Since he had too much free time, they’d give him something to do.

"Doesn’t he live in West City? Let’s dump him back there. Call it your good deed."

Su Jianjun and Ji Qingqing were potential threats to her family, and Ren Shan had had them pegged for a while now.

She took Su Ping, slung Su Jianjun over the bike’s handlebars, and hauled him to Longxiang Mansion to hand him over to Second Brother Qian.

Then she had Second Brother Qian figure out how to stash Su Jianjun under Gao Shuibing’s bed and lure Ji Qingqing there.

After that, which of the three would make it out alive would be up to fate.
