Chapter 10: Don't Be Nervous, I'm Just Looking, Nothing Else

Miss Tang was stunned for a moment, then looked at Du Yang with disdain in her eyes. "Brother Yan, he's just a cleaner. It's only right that he took the hit for you! Why apologize?"

"Apologize." Fu Yan's voice grew colder, his tone brooking no argument.

"I'm sorry." Miss Tang apologized reluctantly, her tone dripping with arrogance.

"Apology accepted." Du Yang brushed the tea leaves off his chest and replied flatly.

Miss Tang was so mad she was lost for words. A mere cleaner really thinks he's a big shot!

"Miss Tang, if you want to discuss cooperation, send a professional from your company. For personal matters, there's no need to come again."

Fu Yan's tone was icy. After speaking, he grabbed Du Yang by the wrist and left the meeting room, running into Chen Miao, who had arrived upon hearing the commotion.

"Chen Miao, show the guest out." Fu Yan gave the order without stopping, pulling Du Yang into the office.

Chen Miao's eyes widened—he could hardly believe his eyes.

    Du Yang's chest was wet.

The boss was holding Du Yang's wrist.

    The boss was actually angry!

    He straight-up kicked her out!

And he's pulling Du Yang into the office for what?

Chen Miao didn't dare delay the important matters and saw Miss Tang into the elevator.

Just after seeing the crying Miss Tang off, he received a message from Fu Yan asking him to buy burn ointment.

Chen Miao immediately understood what had happened in the meeting room.

Du Yang had been scalded by the tea.

The boss was angry because Du Yang had been burned?!

Chen Miao could barely contain his excitement as he went to buy the medicine, his mind spinning a whole soap opera about vying for the boss's favor.

Fu Yan pulled Du Yang into the office and sat on the sofa.

Looking at the young man who hadn't uttered a single cry of pain, his tone was gentle but serious. "Du Yang, I need to see how bad the burn is, to see if we need to go to the hospital."

Du Yang nodded obediently, as if he didn't quite understand.

With permission, Fu Yan reached out to unbutton Du Yang's collar. The latter froze, instinctively wanting to pull back, but he held himself still.

This was his chance to get closer to Fu Yan.

In his past life, his soul had already embraced Fu Yan, and Fu Yan had even kissed his corpse—that was his first kiss. So looking at him now was no big deal.

Du Yang bit his lip, his hands unconsciously clenching at his sides.

"Don't be nervous. I'm just looking, nothing else." Fu Yan explained flatly, not pausing in his task of unbuttoning.

"Then please be gentle—it hurts a bit."

Du Yang looked up at Fu Yan. The latter's movements paused briefly before he pulled open Du Yang's collar.

From the collar down to his collarbone, a patch of fair skin was reddened from the burn. Fortunately, there were no blisters. If he'd been wearing a T-shirt in summer, the burn would have been much worse.

Fu Yan's eyelids flickered as his gaze landed on a small red mole on the young man's collarbone—also flushed from the burn. It was eye-catching.

    "You need ointment."

Fu Yan looked away, released the collar, and pulled out his phone and tapped out a message.

Then he turned and went into the back lounge, quickly returning with a wet towel. He sat down again.

The cold, damp towel pressed against his skin was freezing. Du Yang hated the cold and instinctively flinched, but the towel didn't move.

"Just bear with it. Cold compress first, then the burn ointment will help it heal faster." Fu Yan explained patiently, his voice still calm.

Du Yang hummed in acknowledgment, his fingers gripping the fabric of his pants.

He was afraid of the cold, loathed the chill. This icy touch made his body involuntarily recall the countless times when Du Debao made him sleep on the cold floor as a kid.

    So cold. So painful.

Du Yang's eyelids drooped, his body tensing unconsciously, trembling slightly.

"Du Yang?" Fu Yan's heart clenched. He had no idea what was wrong with the kid. He pulled the cold towel off his chest.

Du Yang seemed not to hear him. Fu Yan called again, but still no response.

"Du Yang, are you okay?" Fu Yan grasped the young man's shoulders and turned him to face him. "Du Yang, don't be afraid. I'm not going to do anything. It's fine."

Fu Yan thought Du Yang was frightened because his clothes had been undone—a stress reaction, thinking he was going to do something to him.

Meeting Fu Yan's calm yet slightly worried gaze, Du Yang opened his mouth, not knowing what to say, but his body relaxed considerably, the trembling stopping.

Fu Yan felt a bit frustrated. He had been pure and disciplined, without any desires, for twenty-nine years, never having felt any lust toward anyone.

How could he possibly have any dirty thoughts about Du Yang? He was only nineteen—still a kid.

But Du Yang's reaction showed he was clearly scared of him.

"I just wanted to see how bad your burn is. I didn't mean anything by it." Fu Yan looked Du Yang in the eye and repeated himself seriously.

Just his luck—right as Du Yang was about to speak, the office door was pushed open.

The moment Chen Miao pushed the door open, he caught the tail end of what he said: "I didn't mean anything by it."

Inside the office, Fu Yan had his hands on Du Yang's shoulders, and Du Yang's collar was still hanging wide open.

The boss was looking at the kid like that, while saying he didn't mean any harm.

Oh, come on, his intentions were as plain as day!

It was exactly like the big bad wolf luring the little white rabbit.

And he had walked in on them.

    Oh my God!

    This is dangerous!

    "I didn't see anything!"

Chen Miao realized a bit too late, clapped a hand over his eyes, and hurriedly turned around to leave.

    "Thud!"

A dull thud—Chen Miao's head smacked into the doorframe.

The sound suggested it was a nasty bump.

Ignoring the pain and dizziness, Chen Miao moved his hand away, got his bearings, and hurried out.

Jolted back to reality by Chen Miao's crash, Du Yang met Fu Yan's gaze with a hint of amusement in his eyes.

Fu Yan secretly sighed with relief, only to tense up again.

    What's gotten into his assistant...

Before the thought could finish, the office door, still ajar, was pushed open again.

Chen Miao, with his back to them, sidled over to the desk like a crab, set the ointment he had bought on the desk.

"Chairman Fu, the medicine's here. You two carry on—I'll keep an eye out outside," said Chen Miao, then scurried away with crab-like steps, remarkably fast.

"Special Assistant Chen is such an innocent soul," Du Yang whispered. "And a little flustered."

Fu Yan released Du Yang, his tone flat. "He's not that innocent—he's had a girlfriend before."

Taking the medicine, Fu Yan added, "Special Assistant Chen is very competent at work, usually quite level-headed."

Today was the first time Chen Miao got flustered; his normally composed assistant seemed rattled by seeing this kid.

Fu Yan lowered his eyes, his gaze falling on Du Yang's still-open collar. He bent down and buttoned up Du Yang's shirt.

Chen Miao must have caught a glimpse of Du Yang half-exposed, which threw him off.

"Apply this ointment—it'll ease the pain quickly." Fu Yan placed the ointment in Du Yang's hand.

Du Yang felt that Fu Yan, who had been showing some concern just moments ago, had suddenly turned colder in tone.

He felt inexplicably slighted—Fu Yan did still care about him after all.

Du Yang stood up, pressing on, and tested the waters again. "Chairman Fu, could you apply the ointment for me?"
