    Chapter 45: Fu Yan's Melancholy

They held hands, looking at each other with tears in their eyes, too choked up to speak. Du Yang tried hard to suppress his feelings, slightly lowering his eyelids to hide his emotions from Grandma and everyone else.

Grandma Lu, having battled in the business world for over a decade, quickly composed her expression and looked at the young man before her with a kindly smile.

"This child is really handsome." Grandma Lu held Du Yang's hand, gently patting the back of it, her eyes full of undisguised admiration and affection.

Grandma Lu's casual patting soothed Du Yang; his tense body gradually relaxed. He blinked a few times rapidly, forcing back the tears that had welled up in his eyes.

When he looked up again, his beautiful eyes were glistening but tear-free. Du Yang broke into a happy smile.

"Thank you for your compliment, Grandma. Your grandson is handsome too!"

This was a compliment to both Lu Jin'an and himself.

Du Yang had never seen his birth mother. In his previous life, he didn't even have a chance to see a photo of her before Lu Yu and Qin Yue burned him to death.

He and Lu Jin'an had somewhat similar features, but neither looked like Lu Ting, probably taking after their mother.

Suddenly put on the spot, Lu Jin'an rubbed his head in embarrassment, "Not as good-looking as Old Fu. Old Fu, over the years, countless men and women threw themselves at him, but they were all repelled by his icy demeanor, haha!"

"Xiao Yan is handsome!" Grandma Lu looked at Fu Yan with undisguised admiration and satisfaction, just like a grandmother appraising her grandson-in-law, the more she looked, the more pleased she became.

Grandma Lu withdrew her gaze and looked at Du Yang again with tender affection, not holding back on praise, "But to me, our Du Yang is still the best-looking!"

"Mm! He's handsome, and he was brought home by our Xiao Yan!" Old Master Fu was beaming with pride. "Let Jin'an bring one home for you too!"

Old Master Fu's words were too straightforward, so Chi Xinya, afraid that Du Yang would feel awkward, cracked a joke.

"Dad, you're too protective. Last night when you were drinking, you were calling Du Yang 'little brother' and treating him like a buddy! If Xiao Yan hadn't stopped you, you two would have sworn brotherhood!"

The whole room burst into laughter, even the servant pouring water joined in.

Du Yang was no longer nervous, but a little embarrassed, fidgeting with his fingers. "I drank too much last night; I don't remember anything."

"Grandpa Fu, I'm sorry if I overstepped."

A faint blush crept onto Du Yang's face. He had been so bold when drunk—calling Grandpa Fu his sworn brother.

He shouldn't have drunk so much. Boo hoo...

Old Master Fu waved his hand, laughing heartily. "Family gatherings are for fun. Grandpa really enjoyed drinking last night!"

Fu Yan smiled faintly, but his mind was full of what had happened between him and Du Yang last night.

    This kid didn't remember anything.

    He felt a bit melancholy.

He wasn't even that drunk, so why couldn't he remember?

Jie Qin had ladled out the hangover soup and set it on the dining table. Du Yang gently pulled his hand back, in a gentle, obedient manner.

"Grandma Lu, I'll go drink some hangover soup. You all keep chatting."

Grandma Lu held Du Yang's hand again, a smile on her face. "Grandma has nothing to do anyway. I'll go with you."

Before Du Yang could refuse, Grandma Lu stood up, took his hand, and led him toward the dining room.

Old Master Fu frowned, sensing something was off.

That old woman wasn't trying to steal his beloved grandson-in-law, was she?

His grandson, after all these years, had finally brought someone home. He couldn't let the Lu family snatch him away.

    He had to follow them.

"Du Yang, wait for Grandpa. Grandpa has nothing to do either. I'll come with you."
