Chapter 13: Have We Met Somewhere
byChapter 13: Have We Met Before?
The receptionist, knowing that someone from the Fu Corporation was visiting, politely escorted Chen Miao and Du Yang into the elevator.
There were only the two of them in the elevator. Du Yang looked up at the steadily changing floor numbers, his fingers clenching tighter and tighter in his palm.
In his mind, the words that Lu Jin'an had said to him in his previous life echoed again.
"It's no use sucking up to Grandma. I won't let you replace my brother."
"I've seen too many people like you who want to break into high society. Don't think I don't know your intentions. The Lu family won't welcome you in the future!"
"My brother will always be only Lu Yang. How dare you compare yourself to him?"
Lu Jin'an didn't know his background and firmly believed that Lu Yang had died back then.
Even though Du Yang's eyes and brows bore a slight resemblance to Lu Jin'an's, he still didn't trust Du Yang, believing he had ulterior motives and coveted the Lu family's wealth and status.
In his previous life, after his reputation was wrecked, he visited Grandma a few times.
The nicer Grandma was to him, the more hostile Lu Jin'an became. He was already prejudiced, thinking that Du Yang had gained some fame by sleeping with the top donors in his livestreams.
He looked down on people who got famous by selling themselves.
Back then, he couldn't defend himself. Even Du Debao and that old woman came forward to testify that he had gotten so many fans by selling himself.
Only Grandma and F believed that he was innocent.
And Fu Yan probably believed him too—otherwise, why would he have gone through so much trouble for him?
Chen Miao said, "Mr. Lu is a long-time friend of Chairman Fu. He's very laid‑back, not stiff at all. Don't be nervous."
Du Yang snapped out of it, relaxed his body, and a hint of a smile appeared on his face. "Mm, with Special Assistant Chen here, I'm not nervous."
Chen Miao's heart warmed. This kid really knew how to talk. The more he looked at him, the more he liked him.
Lu Jin'an's assistant led them to the reception room, served tea, and then Lu Jin'an came in.
Chen Miao stood and politely greeted Lu Jin'an. After the small talk, Chen Miao proactively introduced Du Yang.
"Mr. Lu, this is someone Chairman Fu recently hired. Please take care of him."
Lu Jin'an raised an eyebrow, his gaze falling on Du Yang's face. His heart suddenly stirred. This guy was really... damn good-looking.
Why did he look a bit familiar?
Is Old Fu out of his mind? Hiring such a young kid. Is he even in college yet?
Was he training him from a young age?
And he let Chen Miao personally mentor him. That showed how much he valued him.
"Hello, I'm Lu Jin'an." Despite a thousand questions in his mind, Lu Jin'an remained calm on the surface with a gentle smile. "Have we met somewhere before?"
Lu Jin'an proactively reached out to shake Du Yang's hand.
Du Yang lowered his eyes, hesitated, then reached out. "No, we haven't."
"Then I must have remembered wrong." Lu Jin'an smiled, his hand empty, and he subconsciously curled his fingertips.
Chen Miao thought to himself, 'This cliché way of breaking the ice is something I used when I was a teenager hitting on girls.'
He already said this was someone Chairman Fu cares about, and he's still trying to get close.
Beware of fire, theft, and close friends.
Lu Jin'an knew Chen Miao had come to pick up something, so he also prepared a tea gift for Chen Miao.
He hadn't known Chen Miao brought Du Yang along. Since Fu Yan valued the kid so much, he couldn't send him back empty-handed.
So he immediately gave Du Yang a 2,000 yuan gift card for Lu Corporation's mall.
Du Yang refused. "Mr. Lu, I'm just here to learn. You don't have to think about me. I don't want it."
Du Yang's refusal was a bit curt but very firm. Lu Jin'an didn't insist, but he found it a bit strange.
This kid seemed to have a hint of hostility toward him?
Chen Miao was particularly pleased with how Du Yang handled himself.
He didn't think Du Yang was pretending; this kid genuinely didn't want it.
He was pressed for time, so Chen Miao didn't stick around.
Lu Jin'an walked them to the elevator. Just as the doors were about to close, Du Yang suddenly looked up at him.
Their eyes met. Lu Jin'an saw something else besides hostility in those eyes—like reluctance?
Those eyes, that gaze—in that instant, a flash of his little brother Lu Yang as a child crossed Lu Jin'an's mind.
Just a brief moment, and the doors slid shut, cutting off Lu Jin'an's view while reflecting his own face back at him.
He suddenly realized why Du Yang looked familiar—Du Yang's eyes and brows were a bit similar to his own.
I must be going crazy.
Lu Jin'an pinched the bridge of his nose and turned back to his office.
Probably because his brother's birthday was coming up that he was having such wild thoughts.
Du Yang stayed silent the whole way after leaving Lu Corporation. His head was full of memories from his past life—of Grandma and Lu Jin'an.
Chen Miao just assumed Du Yang was in a bad mood, assuming he was tired and just not used to things.
Since the work wasn't finished, he couldn't let Du Yang go back alone. He planned to finish up quickly and then take Du Yang out to get some good food.
The partnership with He Corporation was long‑standing. This time, they came to sign the contract for next year's cooperation. Fu Yan had already hammered out most of the details; Chen Miao just needed to wrap it up.
Du Yang didn't notice they were entering He Corporation until He Lin followed his father He Zhou into the meeting room.
Du Yang suddenly dropped his head, avoiding He Lin's gaze, his hands on his knees balling into fists.
At that moment, he regretted tagging along with Chen Miao. If he had just been more firm and gone back first, then he wouldn't have...
He Lin had only come reluctantly under his father's pressure, still thinking about going back to school in the evening to find Du Yang.
As soon as he entered the meeting room, he saw Du Yang.
What a coincidence!
Du Yang must have asked around and found out he was helping at his own company, and seized the chance to come.
Unexpectedly, Du Yang had such deep feelings for him.
Du Yang was so good-looking and so devoted to him; thinking of this, He Lin was extremely pleased.
From the moment he entered the meeting room, He Lin's eyes were glued to Du Yang.
Du Yang had even worn a new outfit specifically to see him today, but the outfit only made him look even more handsome.
He had seen plenty of handsome guys, but a type like Du Yang, delicate and beautiful, slender but not frail like a girl; instead, he was full of youthful energy.
When Du Yang saw him, he was shy and didn't dare to look at him.
Guys like that are rare.
Chen Miao naturally also noticed He Lin's staring eyes and coughed twice to signal He Lin to tone it down.
This is the boss's man; you little brat, what are you looking at!
He Lin was completely oblivious to Chen Miao's reminder, still lost in his fantasy that Du Yang had a wonderful crush on him.
He Zhou secretly cursed his own son for being useless—sticking to that kid from the Lu family wasn't enough, and now he falls for anyone he sees.
That look in his eyes was as if he wanted to devour him.
He Zhou sat up straight and elbowed He Lin beside him, "Go get some fruit!"
Don't embarrass me here!
"Ah?..." He Lin snapped out of it and immediately responded, grinning happily, showing his white teeth, "We'll go get some right now!"
He Zhou's eyebrows twitched; his intuition told him that his son saying that meant trouble.
Sure enough, the next moment, He Lin stood up, walked over to Du Yang in a few steps, bent down and grabbed Du Yang's wrist.
"Du Yang, let me take you to pick fruit together."
