Chapter 122 Watch Me Die Before Your Eyes
by 参天甲木Chapter 122: Watching Me Die Before Your Own Eyes
"Fu Yan, don't look!" Lu Yang hurriedly stopped Fu Yan.
But it was too late. Fu Yan stood at the bedroom door, his gaze fixed on the teenager on the bed. The whites of his eyes turned red, tears quickly blurring his vision, the scene before him becoming hazy.
Du Yang lay sideways on the bed, slightly curled up, his eyes half-open with no trace of life in them. His eye sockets were slightly sunken, his face gaunt and emaciated. The pajamas he wore were wrinkled and stained with blood.
To his right lay a small, worn-out knife. Drops of blood were scattered on the bed, and beneath his left wrist was a large patch of bright red. The several red marks on his wrist had stopped bleeding.
"Fu Yan! Don't look!" Lu Yang rushed over, catching only a glimpse of the room before quickly pulling Fu Yan away and wrapping his arms tightly around his waist.
In the last month of his previous life, his memories were chaotic—sometimes clear, sometimes hazy, sometimes sleeping for long stretches, sometimes unable to sleep for days.
When they had returned just now and saw the state of the room, he didn't process it immediately. Just as he realized Du Yang might have cut his wrist unconsciously, Fu Yan had already seen it.
Fu Yan's eyes were bloodshot, tears clinging to the corners of his eyes. He gripped Lu Yang's shoulders tightly, almost pleading, "Yangyang, let's save Yangyang."
As he spoke, Fu Yan let go of Lu Yang and ran back into the room, kneeling by the bed. He reached out to grab Du Yang's wrist but grasped nothing.
"Yangyang, wake up! Hurry, go to the hospital! Yangyang!"
Fu Yan's voice was almost a roar, like a frightened beast. He couldn't touch Du Yang, couldn't even take away the small knife. Every move was futile.
"Brother, I didn't die this time. Don't be like this." Lu Yang ran over and hugged Fu Yan around the neck, trying to calm him down.
Fu Yan suddenly came to his senses and hugged Lu Yang back fiercely, burying his face in Lu Yang's neck, gasping for breath, urgently inhaling the scent that belonged to Lu Yang.
"Yangyang, it's all my fault! It's all my fault!"
"Fu Yan, it's not your fault." Lu Yang's heart was breaking. "It's Lu Yu and He Lin's fault. Brother, in the past life, you did too much for me."
The redness in his eyes gradually faded. Fu Yan calmed down a little but held Lu Yang even tighter.
His Yangyang was still here. We're in the past life right now. Now they were both alive and well.
Lu Yu and He Lin really deserved to die!
Lu Yang led the man to the living room, cupped his face, and imitated Fu Yan's usual soothing gestures, gently kissing away the salty tears on his cheeks. Then he said in a serious tone,
"Brother, during this period in my past life, I was in a very bad state. My depression flared up many times—excessive sleeping, insomnia, vomiting, all of it. If you see these again, don't worry about me. These are just past-life experiences. Now I'm fine."
"After rebirth, you saved me, and you've saved me so many times. None of what happened in the past life is your fault. Don't blame yourself, okay? Seeing you so sad breaks my heart."
Lu Yang's voice was soft with a hint of pleading. He didn't know when they would leave this place, but if they stayed here, things would only get worse.
He had already experienced it once; he didn't want Fu Yan to go through it again, only to be a helpless bystander.
Fu Yan was now calmer. He nodded. "Yangyang, I'll listen to you. I'll try not to be sad. We'll be fine in this life. At least you're still here with us."
He knew exactly the situation Lu Yang described. Later, when he returned from Australia, he learned that Du Yang's private photos had been spread everywhere, his adoptive father had slandered him, his live-stream account was banned, and he was expelled from A University.
Each of those blows was devastating to Du Yang.
At first, he thought He Lin was staying with Du Yang and helping him clean up the negative online posts, but when he investigated the whole story, he realized He Lin had been scheming against Du Yang from the start.
Fu Yan hugged the teenager. "When the dream ends, we'll leave."
"Brother, how do we wake up?"
Fu Yan hesitated before saying, "Do you remember the incense burning in the room before we slept? Great Uncle gave it to me, saying the timing was right."
"I'd rather you never had this kind of opportunity." Lu Yang pouted, a little angry. "That Great Uncle, no integrity. When I wake up, I'll settle the score with him!"
Fu Yan was softened by his expression, his heart easing a bit. His voice lightened. "How does Yangyang plan to settle the score with Great Uncle?"
Lu Yang leaned against the man's chest, his voice muffled. "I haven't figured it out yet. Maybe I'll catch a big green caterpillar and throw it into his vegetable bowl?"
"That's not a bad idea." Fu Yan replied gently. "But I'm very grateful to Great Uncle for helping me remember my past life memories."
Even this part of the experience, he was grateful to Great Uncle. Lu Yang carried the memories of his past life, and Fu Yan wanted to understand more about him—good experiences, bad experiences, everything.
But Lu Yang's past life was too bitter, filled with nothing but bad memories.
Lu Yang muttered, "In the past life, you and I were both miserable and tragic. It would be better if we didn't remember."
"Tragic." Fu Yan's eyes flickered as he stared at the teenager's beautiful eyes. "How do you know I was tragic?"
After regaining his past-life memories and entering the dream together, Fu Yan hadn't mentioned what he did after Lu Yang died in that previous life.
Lu Yang didn't intend to hide it. Not knowing when they would wake from the dream, he decided to tell Fu Yan the truth first, to prepare him mentally.
"Of course I know." Speaking of the most heartbreaking memory, Lu Yang's expression turned heavy with sorrow. "In the past life, after I died in the fire, my soul didn't leave this world."
"I stayed by your side the whole time, until that heavy snowfall." Lu Yang's smile was more bitter than tears.
"Fu Yan, you were so foolish, giving up your own life for me. So after rebirth, the first thing I did was find you."
Fu Yan was silent for a long time before speaking. "So what trapped you in the nightmare was watching me die before your eyes in the previous life, wasn't it?"
Many times, Lu Yang would murmur his name in pain in his nightmares, or wake up screaming from a dream.
Lu Yang lowered his eyelids, hiding his emotions, trying to keep his voice calm. "Sometimes I dream of the scene of your death. I could only watch from the side, powerless to do anything."
A sharp pain seemed to radiate through his entire body. Fu Yan held the teenager, struggling to calm down for a long time.
What a messed-up experience they had in their past lives. Even when he died, he made Lu Yang watch helplessly, heartbroken.
Outside, the weather gradually turned cold. Du Yang weakly got out of bed to get some water.
There was no hot water ready. Du Yang poured himself a cup of tap water and drank it all in one go.
As soon as he finished, he stumbled uncontrollably to the bathroom, clutched the toilet, and retched violently.
He hadn't eaten in two days, his stomach empty. He only vomited water, even bile.
After vomiting, he sat on the floor in a daze for a long while. Finally, he went to the kitchen to boil water and made himself a cup of instant noodles.
He took a few bites, leaving more than half of it, then returned to bed and lay motionless.
In the following days, the two stayed in that house, watching Du Yang either sleep for endless hours or stay awake all night, like a zombie quietly waiting for death.
Fu Yan had said he would try not to be sad, but watching Du Yang like this, there wasn't a moment his heart didn't ache.
Lu Yang hated seeing Fu Yan suffer but couldn't go back. He cursed Great Uncle silently countless times, even thinking about putting ten big green caterpillars in his dish after they got out.
A few days later, a turning point finally came. Someone knocked on the door.
Du Yang was unresponsive again, unwilling to get the door. But the person outside seemed persistent, knocking continuously. Du Yang mechanically got up and went to the door.
