Chapter 82: Liking Brother Jin’an Is Different from Liking Fu Yan
by 参天甲木Chapter 82: Liking Brother Jin'an Is Different from Liking Fu Yan
Ji Zichu put his phone away contentedly. He could wait in line behind his brother, and once his brother broke up, he would pursue Du Yang.
But no one else was allowed to cut in line!
A classmate popped up in the afternoon, and now a brother appeared in the evening!
They all had ulterior motives!
Ji Zichu was on full alert, determined to team up with his brother and drive the outsiders away!
Lu Jin'an ignored Ji Zichu's dramatic assumptions and set out the dishes Grandma had made on the dining table. Du Yang went to the kitchen to get the utensils.
"Little guy, sit with me. It's safer."
The dining table was rectangular. Ji Zichu pulled Du Yang to sit on his side, watching Lu Jin'an across the table warily.
"Brother Jin'an is a good person." Du Yang pulled his hand out of Ji Zichu's grip, stood up, and moved to sit beside Lu Jin'an.
He wanted to sit with Brother Jin'an.
As for Ji Zichu, the person he liked was Fu Yan, not Ji Zichu, so he needed to draw a clear line.
Now he belonged to Fu Yan.
"A person with a dirty heart sees everything as dirty." Lu Jin'an smiled smugly, shot Ji Zichu a provocative glance, and then picked up some food for Du Yang. "This is the East Star grouper Grandma made herself. Give it a try."
Du Yang picked up a slice of fish, slowly chewed it, savoring the delicacy as if it were a rare treat. His heart felt both bittersweet and brimming with happiness.
Swallowing the fish, Du Yang said, "Brother Jin'an, Grandma Lu is very old. Please tell her not to cook anymore. Just having food made by the household staff would make me incredibly happy."
He didn't deserve to have Grandma cook for him, especially since she still didn't know he was Lu Yang.
Lu Jin'an picked up another piece of fish for Du Yang. "Don't worry! Grandma hardly ever cooks these days. Today she was in a good mood and happily made this dish."
When he got home from work, Grandma excitedly asked him to deliver dinner to Du Yang and personally cooked a dish for him.
In the past, he would have felt uncomfortable.
But since apologizing to Du Yang last time, his opinion of Du Yang had changed significantly, and he increasingly felt fond of this brother who wasn't related by blood.
Sometimes he even had the crazy thought that Du Yang might really be his brother, and he felt the urge to impulsively take Du Yang for a paternity test.
Grandma was happy, and so was he. Bringing food also meant he got to see Du Yang, so he was very willing.
"Thank you, Brother Jin'an."
Du Yang was in a good mood. He also used the serving chopsticks to pick up a slice of fish for Lu Jin'an. Grandma's cooking; he and his brother would eat it together.
On one side, the two brothers were in perfect harmony. Across the table, Ji Zichu saw it completely differently.
They were blatantly flirting right under his nose!
If his brother didn't come back soon, Du Yang would be stolen away.
So what if his brother had taken Du Yang to meet the parents? The other guy had also met the family—Grandma included!
Ji Zichu pulled out his phone again. Fu Yan hadn't replied to his messages, but that didn't stop him from furiously typing out another barrage.
"ChuChu: Bro, Du Yang and that CEO Lu are sitting together, even picking up food for each other! Flirting right in front of me!"
"ChuChu: Bro, come back quick! That scheming Lu said he's taking Du Yang home!"
"ChuChu: Bro, that scheming Lu touched Du Yang's hair, and I haven't even touched it yet!"
"ChuChu: Bro, that scheming Lu even made digs at me! Come back and teach him a lesson!"
...
Thanks to the bickering between Ji Zichu and Lu Jin'an, the meal dragged on for over an hour.
Ji Zichu's messages kept coming intermittently until they finished eating and cleaned up.
Lu Jin'an picked up the trash bag and opened the door to leave it outside. Just then, the elevator doors opened. Fu Yan stepped out, one hand in his pocket, his long legs striding briskly, carrying a faint scent of alcohol.
"Old Fu, have you been drinking?" Lu Jin'an set down the trash bag, frowned, and sniffed again, realizing Fu Yan had had quite a bit.
Given Fu Yan's status, he rarely needed to drink even at social engagements. Tonight must have been about something important.
"Why are you here again?" Fu Yan stood outside the door, sizing up the other man, finding Lu Jin'an annoying.
He had met with an important government official tonight. The project was a collaboration with the government, and since he had to drink a little at dinner, he hadn't wanted to bring Du Yang along.
His kid—he wanted to keep him hidden.
But the moment he let his guard down, people were already at his house trying to snatch him away.
Ji Zichu's string of messages had irritated him. To finish early, he drank more.
And now, coming back to find his childhood friend acting like he owned the place, taking out the trash.
What an annoying sight.
Lu Jin'an could tell Fu Yan was upset. He explained, "Grandma made some food and asked me to bring it to Du Yang."
"Don't worry, I know my boundaries." Lu Jin'an patted Fu Yan's shoulder, signaling him not to misunderstand. He had his limits.
He treated Du Yang like a little brother, and Du Yang was the person his childhood friend liked. No matter how foolish he was, Lu Jin'an wouldn't cross that line.
Fu Yan heard him out, but it only made him more annoyed.
You may know your boundaries, but that kid might not. He was naive, didn't know how to refuse, and couldn't distinguish between genuine affection and pretense.
If Lu Jin'an kept coming around, feelings could change.
"Bro, you're finally back!" Ji Zichu rushed to the door like a monkey, looking excitedly at his savior.
"Bro, teach him a lesson! He made digs at me and touched little guy's head!"
"You've got some serious problems!" Lu Jin'an shot him a disgusted glare. "Du Yang is my little brother!"
Fu Yan was already irritated, and now the noise grated on him.
"Uh, do you all want to come inside and talk?" Du Yang poked his head out, looking at the three towering figures standing guard outside, and offered politely.
Fu Yan didn't speak. His gaze fell on the boy standing in the doorway.
The boy was wearing a cream-colored sweatshirt, his hair soft and fluffy, looking sweet and innocent.
"It's getting late." Lu Jin'an said tactfully, "We've eaten, I'm going back."
Watching Lu Jin'an go in for his coat, Ji Zichu also tactfully said goodbye to his brother and Du Yang, turned around and went back to his own room—mission accomplished, he made himself scarce.
Lu Jin'an entered the elevator, and the moment the elevator doors closed, Fu Yan entered the apartment and closed the door behind him.
"Ah... Fu Yan..." Du Yang gasped quietly.
The moment he closed the door, Fu Yan pinned Du Yang against the entryway wall.
He lowered his eyes, his gaze deep, carefully examining the young man, his hands pinning his shoulders against the wall.
"Yangyang, do you like Ji Zichu?" the man asked in a low voice.
Their bodies were extremely close; Fu Yan looked down at him, and on his breath, besides the pleasant sandalwood scent, there was alcohol—not unpleasant, actually kind of nice.
Is Fu Yan drunk?
Du Yang met the man's eyes and firmly shook his head. How could he possibly like Ji Zichu?
"Does Yangyang like Lu Jin'an?" Fu Yan leaned in closer.
Disbelief flickered in Du Yang's eyes, and he quickly shook his head.
He and Lu Jin'an are biological brothers.
But then Du Yang nodded.
For Lu Jin'an, it's a younger brother's love for his older brother—familial affection.
For a moment, Fu Yan's heart felt light, but the next moment, as Du Yang nodded, it sank again.
So this kid really does have special feelings for Lu Jin'an after all.
"So Yangyang still likes Lu Jin'an."
Fu Yan's voice was low, tinged with disappointment, and his breath, laced with wine, fell on Du Yang's face.
Du Yang couldn't describe the feeling in his heart; he suddenly felt flustered, sensing Fu Yan's sadness.
Fu Yan can't possibly think his feelings for Lu Jin'an are romantic, right? He couldn't let him misunderstand—he is Fu Yan's now.
The young man's cheeks were flushed, even his ears were red—mustering all his courage, he said softly, "The way I feel about Brother Jin'an is different from the way I feel about Fu Yan."
After saying this, Du Yang bit his lower lip, not daring to meet the man's eyes, and wished the ground would swallow him up.
