Chapter 193: The Little Monsters' Turn

The two little monsters were currently strolling down a narrow corridor, where the lighting was scarce and dim. The red-haired monster had been in high spirits at first, but as they walked, his steps gradually slowed down, and he held onto Black Egg's tiny paw with more force. In contrast, Black Egg remained composed.

"Fun~ Fun~" Reciting the words his friend had taught him, he realized that his companion's voice was no longer heard. He lifted his head up.

"It's so dark here," said the red-haired monster, who towered over him by a head, as he looked down and started a conversation.

Black Egg tilted his head slightly.

Although monsters had excellent night vision, why not use the available lights? Most little monsters grew up in well-lit environments. They had bedtime stories too, where each tale featured a fearsome demon king who would devour little monsters in the darkness of the night.

"I can't... I can't see anything anymore," the red-haired monster admitted. Even the best night vision had its limits, and these limits varied among monsters.

"Are you scared?" Finally, the red-haired monster mustered the courage to ask the question that had been on his mind.

"Not at all!" Black Egg answered with unwavering determination. Having grown up in the resource-scarce Ye Falar, he had learned frugality from his thrifty grandfather and Jiujiu. At home, Black Egg would avoid turning on the lights whenever possible!

So, Black Egg wasn't afraid of the dark!

Perhaps due to his frequent nocturnal activities or the frequent consumption of Jiujiu's demonic carrot stews, Hei Dan had exceptional night vision.

    Red-haired Little Monster: =-=

However, he was genuinely scared now.

Before they knew it, the two little monsters had swapped positions, with the shorter Hei Dan leading the way.

"Um... Your eyes are glowing!" The red-haired monster tried to strike up a conversation again after a while.

The new friend he had met was kind and visually appealing earlier, but... Why did he become more intimidating as darkness fell?

Those large eyes seemed merely big before, but now... They appeared enormous, glowing softly in the dark like two floating lanterns in the air.

    The red-haired monster shuddered.

"Little Hong's eyes are shiny too~" Hei Dan replied, lifting his head to look at his companion with his own pair of glowing orbs.

This was a sort of emergency adaptation. When a monster's night vision reached its limit, their eyes would glow to compensate for their failing sight. Apparently, they would also glow under extreme hunger or during specific other circumstances.

Jiujiu had specially explained these to Hei Dan, and though Hei Dan couldn't repeat everything Jiujiu said, he understood it all clearly in his heart.

While the other little monsters were still engrossed in stories, Hei Dan had already entered Jiujiu's mini science class and started learning advanced lessons.

Many phenomena that had previously frightened the little monsters became insignificant once Jiujiu explained them with scientific knowledge. With the power of science, the seemingly delicate Hei Dan turned out to be a rather brave little monster.

At the very least, he wasn't afraid of things that scared the other little monsters.

For instance, he wasn't afraid of ghosts → On a certain day at midnight, when Hei Dan was startled awake by a ghostly figure, Jiujiu rushed over to comfort him. It was then revealed that the ghostly figure was none other than Hei Dan himself.

From then on, Hei Dan never slept with disheveled hair again.

For instance, he isn't afraid of insects -> He's a little magical creature who grew up with chickens at home! He was catching bugs to feed the chicks when he just started walking. How could he possibly be scared of them?

Thus, when the two young monsters suddenly felt a soft, squishy sensation beneath their feet, the red-haired one was so startled that he nearly screamed. However, Hei Dan had already swiftly crouched down and swiftly snatched up the soft-bodied creature that had been crawling beneath them.

    "Ah! Such a colossal insect!"

Observing his companion's unexpected joy, the red-haired imp found himself involuntarily stifling the scream that had been on the tip of his tongue.

"Little Hong, could you please hold onto Worm for me? There's still another one!" Under Jiujiu's guidance, Hei Dan was a very polite child who always asked for assistance before seeking help.

"Mmm..." The red-haired imp inadvertently hummed in response. Suddenly, he felt something soft being placed in his arms, which immediately wrapped around his entire upper body. Terrified, he froze, only to hear his companion announce a new discovery.

"Squeak~ Jiujiu brought a flashlight for DanDan!" In the darkness, the stiff, red-haired imp trapped by the soft creature suddenly heard that crisp voice again from below.

And then, a beam of light pierced through the darkness.

Before him, the face of his companion, with its mottled complexion, large, round eyes, and a crimson grin, suddenly came into view.

    A horrifying rendition.

Well, for the sake of spotting errors easily, Hei Dan had lowered the collar that originally concealed the lower half of his face and rolled up his sleeves, revealing his bicep with the same black-and-white pattern. His actions caused his hair to become disheveled, and now, Black Egg's mane was as untamed as waterweeds.

The redhead, Bulfarrette, was left with a blank mind.

Thud! He sat down on the ground.

The black-haired companion crouched down as well.

In the grasp of his companion was an object that emitted light - Bulfarrette had never seen an antique flashlight before. The one in Hei Dan's hand was a vintage find, salvaged from a junk pile by Little Grey and later repaired by Jiujiu. With the dim light it provided, Bulfarrette not only made out his terrifying companion's face but also the horrifying appearance of the so-called "bug" in their hands.

It was a massive, black, and wet creature, indistinguishable from head to tail, thicker than their own arms. If Bulfarrette had encountered this creature alone, he would have been utterly terrified.

However, at this moment, the bug was firmly held in the small claws of his even more frightening companion.

The companion tied the bug into a knot and then pulled out a monstrous stuffed toy from the bag he always carried on his back.

"Quack, quack, help me catch the bug," the companion said. In response, the toy came to "life," its mouth opening impossibly wide as it swallowed the insect whole.

Next, the bug that had been "lodged" on him was also thrown into the "quacking" toy's mouth using the same method.

"Quack can only have one; the rest are for feeding the chickens when we get back," the companion instructed.

Bulfarrette felt a chill and dampness down his trousers...

"Hey! Little Hong, you've wet your pants!" his companion suddenly pointed out.

Only then did Bulfarrette realize he had wet himself. With a sorrowful expression, the red-haired little monster began to cry.

Observing him for a moment, the little black creature continued to rummage through its cherished bag, eventually pulling out an undergarment.

"Here, wear this!" Though somewhat reluctant, it offered the spare underwear that Jiujiu had prepared for it to prevent any accidents to its newfound companion.

Thus, with the assistance of the little black creature, Bulfarrette managed to put on the holey yet embroidered frog-underpants, which were slightly snug but kept his bottom warm.

"Thank you." Sniffling, Bulfarrette expressed his gratitude for the first time.

"You're welcome!" A crimson hue split across the frightening visage as the black companion returned a gentle smile.

The most terrifying presence (or so he thought) was already beside him, and his most embarrassing moment had been witnessed. Bulfarrette, having reached the pinnacle of fright, paradoxically found himself composed.

With the aid of the flashlight's beam, he even started catching insects alongside Hei Dan.

    "Why are you catching bugs?"

"To feed the chickens! There are so many chickens back home!"

In this dark, damp environment where only they and unknown creatures lurked, the friendship between these two young monsters blossomed as they walked and collected insects together.

Perhaps it was due to their intense focus on catching the insects, or maybe because they were too young to notice, but neither of the young monsters perceived the abnormality in their surroundings.

How could there be insects in an ordinary room?

Moreover, these were dark, moist creatures with sticky fluids on their bodies.

They didn't resemble earth-born insects; instead, they seemed more like parasites dwelling inside living beings...

The two young monsters continued their stroll and conversation while catching bugs.

They captured countless insects, and during this process, the flashlight in the hands of the black monster attracted the attention of a few other young monsters. Led by the adorable (yet terrifying) Hei Dan, they all, for some reason, started catching insects together.

Suddenly, the "floor" beneath their feet began to shake violently!

Before the young monsters could react further, they found themselves being thrown up into the air!

The flashlight in Hei Dan's hand flew out as well. The little monster yelped and quickly scrambled to catch it, tightly gripping his beloved flashlight. Thanks to holding onto the flashlight, he could now clearly see everything happening around him in the following moments.

The flashlight finally illuminated the "walls" of the room that he had neglected to notice. They weren't made of steel and concrete, nor were they constructed from stone bricks and tiles. Instead, they were...

"Meat, huh?" As he was harshly slammed against the wall, Hei Dan couldn't help but touch the surface behind him.

Warm and pulsating, it was a wall made of flesh and blood!

However, before Hei Dan could further investigate, another perplexing event unfolded.

The green bracelet that had been tied around his ankle suddenly pierced through the wall. In that instant, wrinkles appeared layer upon layer on the "wall," causing it to convulse violently!

"Eh?" The tiny demon was stunned.

He turned his head and noticed that the same thing was happening to the other little demons around him. Their bracelets were piercing through the "floor" and "walls," trapping them all in bizarre positions!

An immensely powerful "force" was transmitted through the bracelets into each little demon's body. Under the influence of this force, they all lost consciousness. At the same time, a torturous howl echoed within the passageway they were in.

It was a wail, a plea, a mad cry—

Hei Dan also experienced a brief moment of dizziness from the impact of the force.

But it only lasted a few seconds.

After a brief moment of dizziness, the little monster reopened his eyes.

Untying the rope around his own ankle to free himself from captivity, he first located the position of his red-haired companion.

"Slept through it~" Patting the other's face, he noticed that their eyes remained firmly shut, so he refrained from further disturbance, understanding their state.

With his small backpack on his back and accompanied by the croaking creature, the little monster stepped forward, treading steadily towards the light ahead.

In front of him, there was a source of light...

As the little monster ventured towards the light, in the "room" of darkness outside, among the adults, the situation was evolving anew.
