Chapter 60
by 南辿星Chapter 60
Huh?
Why are you writing a will?
Sang Huaiyu paused for a moment, slightly puzzled.
Am I really that scary?
He glanced at the next room before looking back at the screen and typed back.
"Alright."
"But—" He hesitated:
"Why the sudden thought of writing this?"
The boss is still up this late?
Shi Yu hadn’t expected a reply, figuring the boss wouldn’t see it till he was already dead. But the message was answered instantly. He was briefly touched, though he still didn’t say much.
"Ugh, it’s complicated."
"Too much to explain quickly. Today’s been the absolute worst."
"Boss, if I don’t make it, remember to bring me some flowers next year."
Afraid of getting the boss involved with the evil god, he kept his words vague, ranting incoherently before sinking into the pillow, defeated.
Too tired, he noticed his fingers lagging until drowsiness crept in.
Dumb brain!
Why can’t you hold out just a little longer?
Shi Yu yawned, exasperated with himself. How could he be sleepy now of all times?!
Shouldn’t he be on high alert tonight?
Noticing the long pause from the other side, Sang Huaiyu raised an eyebrow and sympathetically replied.
"It’s late. If you’re sleepy, just sleep."
"Maybe you’re overthinking it."
"Tomorrow, it might not be as bad as you think."
Shi Yu looked down, moved by the boss’s kindness.
But there’s no way this is a misunderstanding!
The baby in his stomach says otherwise.
But… should he sleep?
He sighed softly, his resolve crumbling. Sure enough, ten minutes later, pregnancy fatigue got the better of him—his eyelids drooped, and he could hardly stay awake.
Overwhelmed by exhaustion, Shi Yu finally convinced himself: just sleep.
After all, his suicide note was already sent. If he really died in his sleep, it would still be better than getting killed while conscious.
Darkly joking with himself for a moment, he finally let go as his phone fell from his hand, and he closed his eyes, drifting off.
...
Outside the door, Sang Huaiyu detected the even breathing from the bedroom and slightly shook his head.
He had actually wanted to see if Shi Yu was under the covers while sleeping.
But considering that entering the room might terrify Shi Yu even further, he could only hold back regretfully, feeling somewhat disappointed.
The next morning, the first thing Shi Yu did upon opening his eyes was to check if he was still alive.
Instinctively, he glanced down at his body.
Holy shit—he’d made it!
Did the Evil God really let him sleep through the night?
Shi Yu eyed the door warily, hesitating after waking up: should he go out or not?
Honestly, Shi Yu wasn’t exactly itching to leave the bedroom right now—for all he knew, the Evil God might still be lurking.
But... he couldn’t just hide in here forever, could he?
Forget about meals—even basic survival would become difficult.
Gritting his teeth, Shi Yu finger-combed his hair slightly before pushing open the bedroom door. At first, hearing no movement, he thought the other had already left.
Yet the moment the door opened, he saw Sang Huaiyu sitting on the sofa, going through paperwork.
A sleek, modern tablet rested on the table as he lowered his head in thought, giving the keyboard a light tap.
Only when Shi Yu stepped out did he look up.
"Good morning."
If not for the fact that the person before him was a literal eldritch horror, Shi Yu might have almost mistaken this scene for your average corporate exec working.
Wait—since when do cosmic horrors punch timecards?
He did a mental double-take for a moment, his expression turning odd.
Then again, considering this Evil God was not only the CEO of Sang Group but had also blended in with the main crew, having work didn’t seem too strange.
Just as Shi Yu was side-eyeing him, Sang Huaiyu quirked a smile.
"There was a business matter this morning, so I took care of it."
"Was I too loud?"
"No."
Shi Yu instinctively shook his head.
Then he watched as the other glanced at his wristwatch and suddenly said, "There’s still half an hour until ten. You might wanna grab a shower first."
"Let me check the fridge and whip up some breakfast?"
Before he could even process it, he obediently walked into the bathroom.
Shi Yu didn't understand. He had come out on edge, fully intending to suss out what the Horror actually meant.
So how the hell had he wound up in the bathroom?
And now they were having breakfast together?
Only when the hot shower water hit him did Shi Yu snap back to reality, realizing what he'd just agreed to—his entire body froze. But it was too late to take it back now.
After turning off the water, he changed clothes and quietly pressed his ear against the door, listening intently for a long while.
He could still hear the stove clicking on every so often in the kitchen?
The Little Monster woke up, yawned, and listened next to its mom.
After a while of listening, it burbled excitedly: "Wah-la!"
Mama’s... makin’... sammiches!
Recognizing the smell—Mom’s sandwiches!—the Little Monster blurted out the answer.
Shi Yu: ……
"Oh wow, a sandwich. Real shocker."
Like he couldn’t tell what it was?
But was Sang Huaiyu really... making one?
The guy was acting like he owned the place, which made Shi Yu feel uneasy. After thinking for a moment and checking his appearance in the mirror, he stepped out.
Sang Huaiyu had just finished frying eggs and turned around.
"Milk or juice?"
"Juice," Shi Yu replied on autopilot before snapping his mouth shut.
Sang Huaiyu didn’t say anything, just smiled slightly and went to make a glass of fresh-squeezed OJ.
A full, healthy breakfast was laid out on the table.
Shi Yu usually didn’t eat this well himself. He blinked at it, stunned.
“You’re eating for two now—gotta take care of yourself,” Sang Huaiyu said gently.
Shi Yu nodded, then flushed, snapping out of it.
“Uh, the Little Monster’s not into people food.”
He’d been feeding it other Horrors before, but now that its growth had plateaued and suddenly surged, he had no clue what to feed it anymore.
Sang Huaiyu glanced back at him, a quiet laugh escaping him.
"I know."
"I just wanted to treat you right." His lips quirked, voice soft.
If it weren’t for knowing that the being before him was an absolutely terrifying evil god, Shi Yu would have been completely spellbound by his beauty.
It couldn’t be helped—the evil god’s face was simply too captivating.
When those platinum blonde curls fell softly as he glanced over, it made his ears burn red.
Shi Yu touched his ear, feeling the slight warmth, and couldn’t believe how easily flustered he was. After struggling awkwardly for a while, facing the most terrifying big boss in the entire book, all he managed was a weak "Oh."
Sang Huaiyu watched him sit down to eat before finally speaking.
"You haven’t named it?"
Huh?
"What?"
Shi Yu blinked, slowly realizing Sang Huaiyu was asking about the Little Monster.
Shoot. He’d been calling it “Little Monster” all this time and had genuinely forgotten to give it a proper name.
Swallowing his sandwich, Shi Yu took a sip of orange juice before replying, "Haven’t gotten around to it yet."
But why was He asking this?
He felt a weird twinge. Noticing his reaction, Sang Huaiyu thought aloud, "Then... what should I call it?"
Shi Yu: ……?
Good question.
He said it without thinking himself, but hearing the baby’s dad say “Little Monster” felt kind of weird.
Shi Yu lowered his head. "Maybe we should ask it."
After all that time with the Prenatal Education Device, the Little Monster must’ve picked up some ideas by now, right?
Sang Huaiyu looked down at his belly.
Underneath the blue hoodie, the round bump looked soft and… kinda cute.
Well, Shi Yu was the cute one.
He fought the urge to poke it, and instead watched Shi Yu talk to the baby in his belly.
After a lot of back-and-forth muttering, Shi Yu finally got the Little Monster to understand.
"Do you want a name?"
"Let’s pick one so we can call you something."
"Wala?" [baby babble]
A name?
The Little Monster grew curious, tilted its head, tentacles curling around it in thought. After thinking hard, it chose the best word it knew from its limited vocabulary.
It wanted to be Mama’s favorite.
So its name should be… "Genius"!
When the loud "wala" sound echoed in the living room, both Shi Yu and the Evil God across from him were stunned into silence.
After a moment, he asked Sang Huaiyu with a strange expression, “It said it wants to be called—*genius*?”
Sang Huaiyu paused slightly. “It seems so.”
Shi Yu: …
What kind of child would go by *Genius*?
Had his naming sense been a little too… advanced?
So shocked was Shi Yu by the Little Monster, he even forgot his usual wariness toward the Evil God. He felt his lip twitch, suppressing the urge to scold the creature, before instantly rejecting the idea.
“Rejected.”
Even if it dared to call itself that, he wouldn’t dare say it out loud. Just imagining having to bend down and call his stomach “Genius” every time he addressed the Little Monster made him cringe so hard his toes curled.
Absolutely not!
His face said it all. Sang Huaiyu couldn’t help but snort.
“*Very* creative.”
“But there’s no rush. You can teach them properly later.”
Later… teach them properly?
Shi Yu froze for a second before catching the meaning behind the Evil God’s words.
He… had a *later*?
Wait, wasn’t It planning to kill him?
His stomach dropped. Instinctively clutching his abdomen, he turned to look at the god again.
“Uh, sorry to ask, but…”
“I’m allowed to live until then?”
Sang Huaiyu: “...?”
“Why wouldn’t you be?”
The Evil God frowned slightly, puzzled by what image Shi Yu had of him.
Even though Shi Yu knew his identity, hadn’t he actually helped humans a few times while working undercover in the Ability User Association?
Meeting his gaze, Shi Yu immediately backtracked.
“Of course, given Your Mercy, naturally I can.”
Spouting such blatantly insincere flattery, Shi Yu felt like he deserved an award for acting in that instant.
Though mentally cursing a blue streak, he knew when to shut up.
Sang Huaiyu’s expression shifted slightly. On one hand, he faced Shi Yu’s *sincere* eyes—on the other, he distinctly sensed the torrent of curses aimed his way. He raised an eyebrow.
Fortunately, after muttering a few curses, Shi Yu returned to business.
"By the way, since that's the case..."
"What about the kid..."
Following the normal human father-son recognition routine, this would be the time to discuss the child’s upbringing and future.
But the being across from him wasn’t human, and the current situation was anything but normal.
Shi Yu had no idea what the twisted god opposite him was thinking, so he could only tentatively bring it up.
Sang Huaiyu’s gaze lowered, settling on Shi Yu’s abdomen, and said naturally, “Since it’s our child, of course I’ll take responsibility.”
“Perhaps… it might also need a father?”
The amused voice rang in his ears, and Shi Yu shot him a weird look, convinced the Horror was talking crazy.
How could the Little Monster possibly need a father like Him?
Wait… actually, maybe it did?
Suddenly recalling his earlier speculation about the Little Monster’s growth problem, Shi Yu’s expression froze.
Shit, he’d nearly forgotten about that!
The Little Monster’s growth depended on help from its father. If it didn’t grow for a long time, was it just gonna stay in his belly forever?
He stiffly turned his head to meet the Horror’s gaze, biting back his words before taking a deep breath. “You’re right.”
“Maybe we should talk this through.”
As he said this, Shi Yu wanted to punch himself. But there was no choice—not only was his life in the other’s hands, but he also had to ask for a favor. He could only eat humble pie.
...
...
For two whole days, City B was blanketed in weird energy.
Not only were the Horrors within the Ability User Association dead silent, but even the city itself was unusually peaceful.
After finishing his routine patrol, Han Chuyi was seriously weirded out.
“Did these Horrors go vegan or something? They’re so well-behaved?”
Beside him, Wang Shan also nodded, just as confused.
Normally, during patrols, they’d always catch a few newly emerged or troublemaking Horrors. But today, from morning till night, not a single one had appeared. The Horrors in City B were freakishly well-behaved.
Han Chuyi muttered, “I didn’t quite believe Fu Nanyao’s earlier report.”
“But it turns out to be true.”
Still, were these Horrors really this obedient without some angle?
Having fought Horrors for so long, Han Chuyi didn’t buy it for a second.
Yet this time, the Horrors in City B truly had no other schemes. They were scared shitless—how could they dare cause trouble? The low-level Horrors, cowed by the oppressive aura, didn’t dare think or move a muscle, blanking their minds to stay alive. The higher-level ones picked up on way more.
——There exists an absolute presence far beyond them, operating on an entirely different plane of existence.
That being merely let slip a wisp of His aura, and they dared not act out again. After all, a being of that level could obliterate all Horrors instantly with just a glance.
All unruly elements cowered in hiding, maintaining a superficial peace in City B. Even President Chang, who’d seen it all since the founding of the Ability User Association, had never witnessed such a scene before.
Yet this uncanny calm brought no relief—quite the opposite, in fact. It made them even more cautious.
After Fu Nanyao noticed something amiss yesterday, he and the higher-ups focused their attention on the existing high-level Horrors.
After twenty-four hours, they finally managed to roughly interpret from the detector’s readings the reason for the Horrors’ fear.
—Just as they had speculated, there was indeed a being far surpassing the SSS-Class.
And… He was right here in City B!
“Recall everyone first,” said President Chang, his expression grave.
Fu Nanyao gave a curt nod and added, “This matter must not be leaked for now.”
“Keep it confidential temporarily.”
Fully aware of the severity of the situation, President Chang did not object to Fu Nanyao’s suggestion. After all, once such news was released, no one could predict what might happen.
A being beyond SSS-Class… perhaps a god.
How could the ability users maintain any confidence?
He sighed, feeling that City B was truly in a season of turmoil. They had barely pushed back the Horror tide when they discovered such a colossal "presence," completely beyond human comprehension.
Something capable of terrifying the Horrors so greatly… His heart sank slightly, uncertain whether it was friend or foe.
He could only hope this being would not turn against humanity.
Sang Huaiyu indeed had no interest in opposing humans.
When He appeared among people, His initial purpose was simply out of boredom—to condescend to observe these insignificant insects.
But now, His interest had fully shifted to Shi Yu.
After sitting down with Shi Yu for discussion, He turned His gaze aside and asked, “Is there a room for Me here?”
Shi Yu: ????!
What?
The Evil God wanted to stay at his place?
His expression turned horrified. He had assumed that, due to the Little Monster’s existence, the Evil God—who had temporarily decided not to kill him—would merely fulfill the bare minimum of responsibilities to ensure the smooth birth of the Little Monster bearing His lineage.
He never expected the Evil God Himself to be so invested—not only planning to supply energy but also intending to live with him.
Isn’t that going a bit too far?
Thinking of the Evil God’s human identity—owning the Sang Group, residing in a grand villa, radiating aristocratic refinement—Shi Yu ventured cautiously.
“Wouldn’t that be… too inconvenient?”
“My place is pretty cramped—just over 900 square feet.”
The apartment had two rooms—one bedroom converted into a study, and the other serving as the main bedroom.
How is this livable?
Was the Evil God expected to stay in the study?
Shi Yu opened the door to let him see for himself.
Sang Huaiyu turned his head and realized it was indeed seriously cramped.
Although He had been here before while possessing the mimosa, perhaps due to the difference in perspective and mood, it was the first time He noticed how small Shi Yu's place really was.
"Would you like to move in with me instead?"
"There's plenty of room."
He looked at Shi Yu.
As expected, Shi Yu immediately shook his head. "No need, I'm used to living here."
"I can't sleep in new places." He quickly came up with an excuse.
If it were any other friend offering a big villa, he might have considered it. But the one across from him was the Evil God. Just sharing a room with Him was stressful enough—moving into His territory? Unthinkable.
Sang Huaiyu raised an eyebrow in disappointment. "That's a shame."
"But it's fine."
"I'll have someone bring over a bed."
Shi Yu helplessly watched as He sent a message—seemingly to a secretary or assistant—telling them to hit up a furniture store. Shi Yu wanted to object but couldn't, choking back his protest.
Oh god, seriously?
He was really going to be living with this Evil God from now on?
This was way too intense!
After sending the message, Sang Huaiyu handled the arrangements.
Catching Shi Yu's hesitant look, He tilted His head slightly. "Yes?"
"Is there anything else?"
Shi Yu: ...
"Nothing."
What else could he say?
Ugh, he was too scared to speak up.
Little Monster wasn't used to having someone else around either.
Even if it was his dad, it felt like He was trying to steal mom's attention.
After all, it was a fiercely territorial little creature. When the mimosa had shown up before, Little Monster had wanted to chase it away.
Now here was another intruder?
... even stronger than it.
The Little Monster felt a bit troubled, and both it and its mother looked warily at the moving company that had knocked and then clattered in.
Perhaps because they were paid well enough, the delivery personnel from the moving company arrived just two hours later.
After bringing in the newly purchased bed, they quickly assembled it.
Sang Huaiyu stood in the living room and, seeing Shi Yu peeking through the bedroom crack not far away, asked kindly, "Did I disturb you?"
Shi Yu: Not really.
Although he didn't want the evil god to move in, Shi Yu had to admit that the moving company was quite professional.
They were very mindful of the noise when they came up, trying not to disturb the neighbors, and finished assembling everything quickly.
Not wanting the evil god to misunderstand the staff, Shi Yu shook his head, "No."
"Just a bit surprised."
"Um, if you regret it now, it's still not too late."
This tiny place would surely be uncomfortable to live in. And it was converted from a study; how could it possibly suit a noble big Boss?
Wouldn't your hillside villa be better?
Seeing the other party's earnest attempt to persuade him, Sang Huaiyu felt as if he saw a cat stretching out its paws and meowing, which made it even cuter.
His throat rolled, and after Shi Yu spoke, he glanced with interest, "But I think it's great."
Shi Yu: "..."
I'm numb.
Destroy everything.
All that talking for nothing!
His words stuck in his throat, and after closing the door, he couldn't help but throw a frustrated punch at thin air.
Little Monster was also furious. With a "wala!" sound, it imitated him and swung a punch too.
Though it didn't have fists, curling its tentacles worked just fine.
Shi Yu ranted to Little Monster for a long time, but in the end, he had no choice but to grudgingly accept his fate. Just when he thought being forced to live with the evil god was already rock bottom—
Then things took a turn for the worse.
Shortly after 7 p.m., not long after the movers had finished assembling the furniture and left, Sang Huaiyu glanced at the time and knocked on Shi Yu's bedroom door.
Shi Yu: "..."
What now?
The "knock knock knock" sound jolted him. Lying in bed, he blinked in confusion and exchanged a glance with Little Monster, completely clueless as to why the evil god would knock at this hour.
He was already planning to lie low—wasn’t the other gonna give him a break?
Taking a deep breath, he reluctantly dragged himself out of bed and walked over to open the door after the knocking paused.
Before opening the door, he quickly adjusted his expression in the mirror by the bed.
"Hello, is there something you need?"
Shi Yu used every ounce of self-control he had to keep his composure.
When the door opened, Sang Huaiyu looked genuinely apologetic. Upon seeing Shi Yu, he pulled out a box of cake and smiled, "I'm sorry for the noise from the afternoon renovation. I noticed you didn’t eat."
"Want some cake tonight?"
Shi Yu, torn between hesitation and temptation: ……
Damn! It's from the Black Diamond brand!
He was about to hesitate when he accepted the cake, only to hear Sang Huaiyu ask, "Mind if I come in for a sec?"
As Shi Yu wore a nervous expression, Sang Huaiyu continued, "Today I realized that this Little Monster seems a bit lacking in common sense."
His eyes flicked toward Shi Yu’s abdomen. Just as Shi Yu suddenly remembered the Little Monster blurting out “genius” earlier, his face twisted into an odd expression. Sang Huaiyu went on, "As a father, I should take responsibility for—you know—its education."
Family bonding time 💕💕
‘Sang Huaiyu has officially proposed a “unified sleeping arrangement,” but Shi Yu is so intimidated his currently trying to convince him that the living room couch is actually a luxury 5-star resort for one.’ (my imagination)
(AHAHHHHH IM SUCH A DELUSIONAL CUTIE PIEEE🤗💖, WOULD 100% GO TO THE MENTAL HOSPITAL 🥀🥀)
Come slowly, father dad. Be gentle with baby tentacles.
Intimidating the unborn child!!
