Chapter 1: The Husband Beta Bitten by an Alpha

Bai Yu stumbled out of the private room, staggering forward.

His cheeks were burning, his body drenched in sweat, and he felt even dizzier than if he were drunk.

The music in the bar caused faint vibrations in the walls, while people on the dance floor reveled wildly, swaying and exhaling plumes of smoke.

"Hey, sweetheart, where are you going? The restroom isn't that way."

Bai Yu ignored the person chasing after him and quickened his pace, suddenly colliding head-on with a man in a suit and glasses.

The man was on a serious phone call and instinctively caught Bai Yu.

Bai Yu hurriedly apologized, but the man didn’t stick around, continuing his call as he walked: "Yes, the boss’s rut suddenly started. He told me to get the suppressants from you, but you’d better come take a look. I think something’s off with him…"

Bai Yu made his way down the dimly lit corridor toward the innermost private room.

According to the bar staff, this bar was exclusive membership-based. VIP rooms were reserved for annual members only, with a fee of 300,000 yuan. Only the wealthy could enter.

The innermost black-and-gold VIP lounge was for the highest-spending members, though it was usually empty, accessed only occasionally by the cleaning staff.

Bai Yu rushed to the room, pushed the door open, and found it pitch dark inside. He immediately slipped in to hide for a while.

If he were an omega, he would have instantly detected the scent of an S-class Alpha here—so potent it could send an omega into heat immediately.

But Bai Yu was a beta, unable to recognize pheromones.

Voices could be heard outside. Someone asked, "Where’s that boy?"

Bai Yu recognized the voice as Alpha Cui Che, who had offered him a drink earlier. Cui Che’s family was in the steel cable business. He used to be into motorcycles until an accident cost him his testicles. With no business sense and unable to continue his family line, his family had given up on him. He now frequented bars and nightclubs, splurging money.

Today, Cui Che had invited all the performing singers for drinks, and Bai Yu had gone along with the others. Little did he know Cui Che had specifically targeted him.

Just one sip of that drink had made him this dizzy—finishing the whole glass would have been dangerous. He’d heard that men who couldn't perform could get particularly perverse when they tried to play games.

Henchman: "Not sure. I saw him go this way."

Their footsteps stopped outside the black-and-gold room. Cui Che: "Is he in here?"

Henchman: "Boss, I heard from the owner that there’s a very high-profile VIP guest inside. We can’t offend him. He’s just a bar-singing college student—why would that guest let him in?"

Cui Che tossed his cigarette butt on the ground and crushed it under his shoe. "Keep looking. There’s someone guarding the entrance; he couldn’t have left. Don’t let our catch fly away. I must have him tonight!"

Bai Yu stood behind the door, listening as their cursing faded away. The feverish heat in his body continued to surge.

They said someone was in here?

Bai Yu fumbled and turned on the small light in the room. Lying on the leather sofa was a man dressed in black.

The man had sharp, deep-set features, a defined jawline, and his shirt collar was unbuttoned past his collarbone, revealing the curve of his pectoral muscles. His long legs were casually propped on the sofa, and his custom-made Italian leather shoes gleamed with a rich, polished sheen under the light.

He was tall, at least 180 cm. From his build, he was clearly an Alpha. The watch on his wrist was exquisite.

Suddenly, the man opened his eyes and locked gazes with Bai Yu but said nothing.

Bai Yu’s breath hitched. "Sir, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to barge in."

The man continued staring at Bai Yu without speaking, his gaze like a predator eyeing its prey—devouring him with his eyes, as if ready to swallow him whole in the next second.

Bai Yu quickly backed toward the door, leaning against the wall. "Since you’re awake, I’ll leave. Sorry to disturb you."

After just a few steps, the man lunged at Bai Yu, pinning him against the wall and sniffing aggressively at his neck. "What is that scent on you?"

The man’s warm breath brushed against Bai Yu, sending shivers down his spine. "What scent? I don’t know. Please let me go!"

Then, the man bit Bai Yu’s nape, his canines injecting pheromones into Bai Yu’s vestigial, atrophied gland.

    "Don’t bite me!"

The sharp pain jolted Bai Yu awake. He frantically reached into his pocket.

Since he often performed in nightclubs and his neighborhood was sketchy at night, he always carried a stun gun to deal with aggressive, troublesome thugs.

With a sharp crackle, the stun gun went off, and the man collapsed.

All his weight fell onto Bai Yu, throwing him off balance, and they both tumbled to the ground.

The man’s body was burning hot. Could it be that the Alpha’s rut had kicked in? During their rut, Alphas became more irritable and aggressive, needing an Omega’s comfort.

Bai Yu recalled the man with glasses he’d bumped into earlier, who seemed to be saying something about a rut. Was it this man?

Bai Yu touched the spot where he’d been bitten—his fingers came away stained with blood.

"Is this pheromones? Did you really mistake me for an Omega?"

Bai Yu pushed the man away with all his strength. Perhaps he hit a table corner, because the man actually woke up.

The man lunged again, clutching Bai Yu tightly and sniffing his nape. "You smell so good."

"I have no scent! I’m a beta!" Bai Yu struggled desperately. "Let me go!"

The man’s voice was deep and groggy. A damp, warm sensation brushed behind Bai Yu’s ear. "Nonsense. You do. It’s a fig fragrance."

    "That’s probably just my body wash. I’m a beta—I don’t have a gland!"

Bai Yu had heard that some Alphas in rut could be terrifying. He had no idea what this man might do, and he was at his breaking point!

He shoved the man aside and bolted for the door, but the man dragged him back, threw him onto the sofa, and pinned him by the knees.

    "I want to mark you."

    "I’m a beta!"

Bai Yu thrashed left and right, refusing to let himself be bitten. As he struggled, his strength waned, his legs trembled more violently, and his body grew slick with sweat.

The man bumped Bai Yu and threatened in a low, magnetic voice, "Let me bite you."

"Your assistant has already gone to get suppressants for you. Whatever it is, wait till he gets here. Now let me go!"

The man licked Bai Yu’s nape, sending shivers through his body. Out of the corner of his eye, Bai Yu spotted the stun gun lying not far away.

He reached for it several times before finally grabbing it.

    *Zap! Zap! Zap!*

The man collapsed again, lying flat on his back on the floor.

Gasping for air, Bai Yu glanced at the man on the ground, picked up the stun gun, and left the room—unaware that, during the struggle, the man had torn off his little red beaded pendant.

Secretary Zhou returned and opened the private room door, only to witness this scene—his usually cold, detached, and aloof boss sitting on the floor like a pervert, obsessively licking a broken pendant.

The pheromone levels were so intense, the pressure was crushing, that Secretary Zhou almost buckled under the pressure. "B-Boss, I’ve brought the suppressants."

Situ Jing’s personal physician, Jiang Ming, had also arrived. Upon entering the room, he felt like his nose was about to bleed and quickly put on a mask.

"Your rut came on suddenly this time, and it’s worse than before."

For a long time now, Situ Jing had been suffering from pheromone abnormality syndrome. This condition causes glandular neuralgia, insomnia, excessively high pheromone fluctuations, and in severe cases, can lead to fainting and memory confusion, making normal work and life impossible.

Medically, the exact cause has yet to be identified—it could be genetic or the result of acquired psychological or physiological conditions.

After Jiang Ming administered the suppressant to Situ Jing, he gradually regained clarity and returned to his usual cold, decisive self.

Jiang Ming asked, "How did you get these electric shock injuries on your arm?"

Situ Jing lifted his right arm, saw the bruised wound, and recalled what had just happened in the private room.

A drunk beta male had barged into his room. The boy was fair-skinned, young, and carried a scent of figs.

That fragrance had soothed the stinging pain in the glands at the back of his neck, freeing him from the torment of his pheromone abnormality.

The long-suppressed restlessness, like a dam about to burst after months of relentless rain, burst forth explosively once it found an outlet. Situ Jing urgently wanted to mark the beta, even though it was impossible—he bit him anyway.

After releasing his pheromones, Situ Jing’s physical pain and agitation lessened further, but the beta shocked him with an electric device.

Situ Jing wanted to continue holding the beta and indulge further in the stimulation, but the beta tried to escape and shocked him again in the waist and abdomen, knocking him out.

When Situ Jing woke up, he was lying on the cold floor of the private room, clutching a broken pendant in his hand.

Since the day he presented as an S-class Alpha, Situ Jing had never encountered an omega who could stir his arousal, nor had anyone driven him to act like a mad dog. Those around him assumed he was asexual—even he thought so himself.

His fascination with a beta’s body scent might just be a side effect of his pheromone abnormality.

Jiang Ming briefly treated the wounds on Situ Jing’s arm and abdomen, then warned, "Your next rut may be even more explosive and aggressive than this one. It won’t be manageable with suppressants alone. It will also be accompanied by gland pain, body aches, memory confusion, and other symptoms that will interfere with daily work and life."

Situ Jing mused, toying with the red bead on the pendant, "Any suggestions?"

"Find a partner to help regulate your endocrine system."

"I think I’ve already found one."

Secretary Zhou and Jiang Ming exchanged shocked glances, wondering when Situ Jing had found someone—could it have been here?

Situ Jing buttoned his shirt and stood up. "Call the bar manager. I want to see all their beta employees."

Jiang Ming raised an eyebrow. "Beta?"

"What, is that a problem?" Situ Jing asked coldly.

"Not necessarily, but betas have no pheromones to offer you. The withdrawal after your rut might be more intense. Also, the pheromones you left on the beta will fade within three days. If you want to find him, you’d better hurry."
