    Chapter 108 Scolding Li Wenxun

In this lifetime, something must have gone awry; Li Wenxun's ranking wasn't as high.

But he still made it onto the list and became a candidate.

There would still be the palace examination.

Moreover, Lu Hanyi remembered that in the previous life, Li Wenxun didn’t win the title of Metropolitan First either. At that time, she was embroiled in a heated conflict with Xing Dairong and Cheng Yunshuo at the marquisate. When Lady Liu told her that Li Wenxun had passed the imperial examination and both the Li and Lu families held him in high regard, she had been dismissive.

It was just a minor candidate position; what was there to be proud of?

She never expected him to soar during the palace examination.

In this lifetime, although his ranking was lower, he still had a chance in the palace examination.

The title of top scholar would still be his.

"Hmph! If you don’t secure me the title of top scholar’s wife, you’re done for!"

Lu Hanyi, with her family present, huffed at Li Wenxun.

Upon hearing this, the warmth on Li Wenxun's face turned into displeasure.

Top scholar’s wife, top scholar’s wife, why did they always talk about this?

Did they treat the title of top scholar like rotten cabbages at the market? Anyone could achieve it!

Passing the metropolitan examination was already an extraordinary feat. In the entire spring examination, how many people his age managed to pass? Everyone praised him for being young and promising, with a bright future ahead.

Lu Hanyi acted as if she didn’t understand its value at all!

    Annoyed, deeply annoyed.

This kind of person who knew nothing but demanded first place was truly as irritating as a fool.

Unfortunately, Lu Hanyi's parents and sister were present, and she had just given birth to his son, so he couldn’t show her any displeasure now.

He could only force a gentle tone, "Alright, I will work hard."

Lady Liu, overhearing this, scolded sternly, "Wenxun, my daughter fell for you at first sight, and now she has even given birth to your son. Look at how you treat her!"

"Your family hasn’t even come over yet; do they even care about my daughter?"

"You’ve bullied her several times before, not even providing charcoal fire for a pregnant woman in winter. How do you call yourself a husband? Fortunately, nothing happened to my daughter; otherwise, even if you became a top scholar or a high official, I would fight you to the death!"

Lady Liu berated him publicly, and Li Wenxun maintained a respectful demeanor, responding verbally while inwardly growing increasingly resentful towards them.

His wife was annoying, and her mother was even more so.

Rehashing past grievances repeatedly, it was only because his father-in-law and Lu Hanyi’s sister had some status that he refrained from losing his temper.

Lingyun watched quietly from the side, observing the darkening eyes of Li Wenxun under the scolding, and couldn’t help but feel amused.

Looking at it from another angle was quite refreshing.

Li Wenxun was inherently selfish and heartless. No matter how well others treated him, he only saw benefits and never remembered kindness.

Seeing him scolded so thoroughly brought her a sense of satisfaction.

A selfish man paired with a shrewd woman was indeed a perfect match.

Lu Hanyi’s father, seeing Lady Liu’s tirade, tried to mediate, "Alright, alright, Hanyi is fine, isn’t she? Little Xun seems like a good kid. He needs to prepare for the exams; he can’t be bothered with other things."

"But you can’t let our daughter suffer like this! Look at the life Hanyi has had with him!"

"Enough!" Lu Hanyi’s father glanced at her on the bed, "A married woman should prioritize her husband’s family. You shouldn’t be so unreasonable; you need to understand and support your husband!"

After all, Lu Hanyi’s father was a man, and despite her being his beloved daughter, he firmly defended the interests of men.

Li Wenxun was still so outstanding in his eyes and might become a valuable ally in the future. What did it matter if his daughter suffered a little?

    She deserved to suffer!

All these reactions fell into Lingyun’s eyes, but she felt no ripples in her heart, for she had never harbored any expectations of them.

As everyone argued, the matter settled down. Lu Hanyi’s father and Lady Liu needed to leave, and they noticed Lingyun.

Lu Hanyi’s father made a perfunctory greeting, asking how she was doing and how the marquisate was faring.

Lingyun responded with standard politeness, saying everything was fine.

Her father was pleased with his worry-free daughter, who never caused any trouble.

Lady Liu, however, had no mood to chat much with Lingyun today, her mind and eyes focused on her daughter and newborn grandson. She also complained incessantly about the absence of the Li family.

That heartless in-law family hadn’t shown up even when her daughter gave birth outside.

Thinking of this, she couldn’t help but look at her daughter with concern and resentment.

Lu Hanyi knew exactly what that look meant.

They boarded a carriage with the child, "Enough, it’s annoying!"

"You’ll find it even more annoying in the future! You must have lost your mind to marry such a man! Look at Lingyun, dressed in gold and silver, enjoying life. Every time I see her, she seems better off than before!"

    Lady Liu grumbled.

Today, it was Lingyun who sent someone to notify them.

It's said that at the scene, it was Lu Lingyun who discovered Lu Hanyi was about to give birth, while Li Wenxun didn't even notice.

Thinking of this, Lady Liu felt both anger and resentment, hating Li Wenxun to the extreme, regretting not having scolded him more just now.

Seeing Lu Lingyun, surrounded by people and out with her sisters, from outside the carriage curtain, Lu Hanyi felt a mix of emotions well up inside her. What was going on!

How could she be living such a life!

Clearly, she had stolen her marriage and married into that cesspool of a marquisate, yet she still managed to live so well!

Shouldn't she be fighting to the death with Xing Dairong every day, throwing pots and pans in anger, and being blamed by everyone?

Why did she always look so radiant and live such a comfortable life whenever seen!

At this moment, the baby in her arms started crying loudly.

Lady Liu hurriedly held the baby and tried to soothe it, passing it to Lu Hanyi and clumsily teaching her how to breastfeed.

Lu Hanyi looked at the wrinkled newborn with disdain and resisted, then suddenly remembered something, "Right, Lu Lingyun isn't pregnant yet!"

"I haven't heard anything about that, but I did hear that one of her concubines gave birth prematurely to a son, who is now under her care."

Hearing this, Lu Hanyi felt a sense of victory, "Hmph! She can't possibly be happy. Cheng Yunshuo, that dog of a man, won't like her!"

No matter how well Lu Lingyun is living now, Cheng Yunshuo will still love Xing Dairong and never touch her, and he might even elope with Xing Dairong.

And she already has a son, giving her hope for this life, unlike her previous miserable existence.

Moreover, the imperial examination hasn't come yet, and Li Wenxun will still make her his zhuangyuan wife in the future.

"What use is her current glory? Her good days will soon be over!" Lu Hanyi held her newborn son, her eyes filled with vicious anticipation.

Why is the sister so delusional? As if her stolen “success” would be detrimental to her own sister’s prosperity because of envy.

Also kinda pissed at Xian Dairong. Not because of her being a bitch, but because she was supposed to be a modern woman who was a college student. I’d have expected more sense in her, be more social and outgoing, but I guess that wouldn’t make the main character shine more with how virtuous and untouchable she is.

-sigh- Truly a novel that lacks three dimensional characters. I’m still reading though cuz it’s still written decently and the story is good. Nothing too overly dramatic, and there’s still some sense on why the characters are flawed.
