Chapter 125 The Married Beta's Engagement (Chasing the Wife 2.0)

In the dining room, the chef had already prepared a sumptuous dinner, its aroma filling the air.

Bai Yu sat at the dining table, watching Situ Jing across from him elegantly cut his steak with a knife. The scene reminded him of their first meeting at a Western restaurant three years ago.

Back then, he was still scrambling to cover medical bills for his sister. After accidentally electrocuting Situ Jing, he had been avoiding Situ Jing's attempts to find him.

When Secretary Zhou caught him and took him to see Situ Jing, he said that Situ Jing meant no harm and only wanted to ask for his help. But those words did little to calm his nerves.

When Bai Yu entered the Western restaurant, the entire place was quiet, with only the soft sound of blues music playing.

He saw a man sitting by the window, his sharp, defined profile, wearing an expensive custom-made suit that exuded an air of nobility, much like those elite tycoons featured on the covers of business magazines.

Even the waiters would occasionally shoot him admiring glances, intentionally or not.

It was at that moment, when the man lifted his gaze and coldly looked at him, that Bai Yu was momentarily mesmerized.

Three years later, Bai Yu and Situ Jing were sitting at the same table, sharing a meal, their relationship even more complicated now. He might even become Situ Jing's wife, yet he felt that the Situ Jing from back then—the one who was captivating yet aloof—was actually more appealing to him.

When Situ Jing appeared alive before him on the cargo ship bound for Xingzhou, it did lift the weight of his sorrow.

But he always believed that Situ Jing was the least likely among all men to bring him happiness.

What Situ Jing made him feel was always obsessive, intense, and possessive, like a never-ending fever.

He could never change him, nor did he have the right.

The only thing he could do was to control himself, to not give away the remaining 50%, and certainly to avoid getting pregnant again.

Situ Jing lifted his gaze and noticed that Bai Yu hadn't started eating, as if lost in thought. "Not to your taste?"

Bai Yu immediately shook his head and took a bite of scallop. "It's quite delicious."

Situ Jing watched as Bai Yu continued eating and picked up his own fork again.

After dinner, Situ Jing oversaw Bai Yu taking his medicine before heading to the study to take care of some business.

Bai Yu played with Babao in the living room for a while when he saw Situ Jing hurriedly coming downstairs while on a phone call. "I'll be right there."

Bai Yu guessed it might be something related to his father and assumed Situ Jing wouldn’t be coming back that night.

But the next moment, Situ Jing walked up to him. "Come with me to Jintaishan."

    "Me? With you?"

Before Bai Yu could react, Situ Jing had already pulled him out the door.

    *

Situ Long, fuming with no outlet for his frustration, drove straight to Jintaishan Sanatorium after leaving Yanting.

Entering the ward, Situ Long grabbed Situ Jian by the collar and unleashed a furious rant. "This is the fine son you raised!"

After hearing him out, Situ Jian’s blood pressure spiked immediately, and he collapsed to the floor.

Situ Long didn’t stick around—after all, medical staff were present—and turned to find his aide.

When Bai Yu and Situ Jing arrived at Jintaishan Sanatorium, Situ Jian had just come to, with Lin Xiaoran at his side.

Situ Jing cast a cold glance at Situ Jian. "At your age, you should know better than to stir up drama."

Situ Jian snorted lightly and squinted at Bai Yu.

Situ Jing shielded Bai Yu behind him. "What are you looking at?"

Situ Jian pushed himself up from the hospital bed like a bolt upright. "These are my eyes—can’t I look if I want to?"

Situ Jing said calmly, "What good are those eyes of yours? Even if you look, you won’t remember his face."

Situ Jian raised a trembling finger and pointed at Situ Jing. "You!"

Lin Xiaoran gently patted Situ Jian’s back. "Calm down, let’s talk properly."

Situ Jian closed his eyes, taking a moment to collect himself. "Do you really want to anger your aunt and me to death? I heard from your aunt that you’ve sunk a fortune into him—at least twenty million!"

Situ Jing raised an eyebrow. "If I want to give, I give. What’s it to you?"

Situ Jian slammed the bed board. "That’s the Situ family’s money!"

Standing behind Situ Jing, Bai Yu, though not directly facing his father’s rage, felt as though he had become the scheming homewrecker disrupting family harmony the moment he met Lin Xiaoran’s gaze.

In Lin Xiaoran’s eyes, there was some sympathy for Bai Yu, but more than that, there seemed to be disbelief and envy.

Lin Xiaoran was still hung up on the title of "Mrs. Situ." Despite her efforts, she hadn’t gained the status or advantages she had hoped for from Situ Jian.

She couldn’t believe that a beta, someone she looked down on, could be cherished so deeply by an alpha like Situ Jing—so much so that he was willing to break all the rules to put him in that position.

Bai Yu averted his gaze, awkwardly looking toward Situ Jian.

After all, Situ Jian had face blindness—he might not even remember him the next time they met.

Situ Jing continued arguing with Situ Jian. "I’m just following your example, can’t you see? The money you spent on that schemer for her villa was far more than twenty million. Why are you allowed to be reckless, but I’m not?"

Situ Jian’s eyes widened, never expecting the tables to turn so sharply. The sarcastic, cutting tone was exactly like Situ Jing’s grandfather!

"Even if you were to find someone, it should be an omega. How could you choose a divorced beta, and one from a poor, complicated family background?!"

Situ Jing took two steps closer and said slowly, "What’s wrong with being divorced? Who says a divorced person can’t remarry? Even if his background isn’t great, he’s now an accomplished musician. Wherever he goes, he has skills to be proud of."

"Lin Xiaoran also comes from a common background, a lower-tier omega, and an obscure yoga teacher. Do you even know yoga’s origins? Since you were so desperate to marry Lin Xiaoran, you should understand how I feel."

Situ Jian slammed the bed board hard and yelled at Situ Jing, "You’re trying to anger me to death, you’re trying to anger me to death!"

"Go on, I’ll call someone to reserve a burial plot for you right now." Situ Jing made a show of taking out his phone and dialing Secretary Zhou’s number.

Situ Jian immediately got out of bed, standing in front of Situ Jing and stamping his feet. "I won’t die, I won’t die! I’ll live just to annoy you!"

Father and son stood facing each other. Situ Jian’s hair at his temples had turned gray, he was much shorter than Situ Jing, and his eyes were more clouded than before. His striped hospital gown hung loosely on him, and his stomping made him look quite ridiculous.

Situ Jing looked at him and sneered, "Why are you so worked up? Be careful not to crack the floor tiles with all that stomping."

Situ Jian pointed at Bai Yu behind Situ Jing. "Can he even have children? If a beta can produce a suitable heir, then I might as well wash my hands of it!"

Hearing this, Situ Jing laughed again. "As if you’ve ever taken charge of anything."

Situ Jian frowned, a flicker of hurt flashing in his eyes. "I know I’ve done things that can’t be forgiven. I’m not a respected father, and I haven’t given you a happy life."

"But I don’t want you to make a foolish decision that will affect the rest of your life!"

Situ Jing held Bai Yu’s hand, gently stroking it. "I know what I’m doing. Although betas have a lower chance of conception, for a family like ours, getting a beta pregnant isn’t that difficult, is it?"

Bai Yu's hand trembled involuntarily upon hearing this, but Situ Jing held it even tighter.

Situ Jian pointed at Situ Jing's nose, "Let him give birth then—I want to see what kind of child he can produce!"

"What’s the hurry? I’ll take care of it."

Situ Jing disliked being hurried and was growing impatient staying here. He pulled Bai Yu away.

After getting in the car, Situ Jing called Situ Hui, who was on a film set, and told him, "Situ Jian isn't dead yet—he's alive and kicking."

Bai Yu listened nearby, hoping Situ Hui would say something to dissuade Situ Jing.

Situ Jing's expression wasn’t as tense as before as he asked Situ Hui when he would finish filming and return for the engagement party. The conversation was surprisingly pleasant.

Bai Yu gazed out the car window as the breeze tousled his hair.

That night, in the dim bedroom of Yanting, intense noises and high-pitched screams could be heard continuously.

Bai Yu gripped Situ Jing's arm, sobbing, "Can you stop?"

    "Aren’t you into it too?"

    "Don’t make me pregnant—I won’t give birth!"

    "You will give birth!"

    ...

The next noon, Bai Yu woke up sore all over. Situ Jing was already gone.

Life had returned to its previous state—he couldn’t leave the house and had no contact with the outside world.

He could only wait for Situ Jing to occasionally return and visit him overnight, and he still had to take his pills on time.

Half a month later, Situ Long, unable to find anyone, grew anxious and came to Yanting again.

The butler couldn’t stop Situ Long and let her in.

Bai Yu was in the living room, crouching down to feed Babao a cat treat. When he looked up and saw Situ Long walking in with a gloomy expression, he stood up in fright, and Babao ran away.

    "Chief of Staff."

Situ Long asked, "Where is that brat?"

Bai Yu recalled that Situ Jing had mentioned going to Man City when he left in the morning, so he told Situ Long, "He’s not here—he’s out of town for work."

Situ Long looked Bai Yu up and down for a moment, then called Situ Jing.

"Engagement is fine. You have two years. As long as he gets pregnant, you can marry. If he doesn’t conceive within two years, you must end things with him."

This was the minimum condition Situ Long could offer—it didn’t matter if the genes were superior, as long as he could conceive.

But given how slight Bai Yu looks, Situ Long thought it unlikely.

    Situ Jing said calmly, "Deal."

Situ Long hung up the phone and stormed out.

Bai Yu followed Situ Long’s retreating figure and whispered, "You could’ve said only a year."

Situ Long turned back and gave a faint smile, "I thought you’d think two years wasn’t long enough."

She wanted to do something to this troublemaker who had bewitched Situ Jing, but facing Bai Yu, she surprisingly felt a pang of pity.

Situ Jing had him locked up here, with bodyguards everywhere from the villa’s entrance to the living room, tighter than a military spy prison.

Previously, Situ Long thought Situ Jing did this to prevent her from killing him, but now it seemed that might not be the case.

Situ Long left, driving away in a camouflage-patterned SUV.

Soon, Situ Jing sent the adjutant back to Situ Long’s residence.

    *

Situ Jing was away on business for a month this time, giving Bai Yu a brief respite.

One night, Bai Yu felt overheated while asleep. When he drowsily opened his eyes, he found Situ Jing holding him in his arms and immediately woke up.

    "You... you’re back?"

In the darkness, Situ Jing gently stroked his brow. "I’ll take you out tomorrow."

Bai Yu’s face was blank. "Out for what?"

    "To attend our engagement party."

The next evening, Bai Yu, dressed in a tailored suit, followed Situ Jing into the car and left Yanting for the royal five-star hotel where the engagement party was held.

As soon as they stepped out of the car, they were met by a crowd of reporters. Cameras flashed in Bai Yu’s face, capturing photo after photo.

Having been cooped up for so long, Bai Yu had forgotten he was also a public figure and felt uneasy in such a situation.

The reporters seized the opportunity to crowd him with questions, "Is it true that you and Mr. Situ have had a secret three-year romance?"

"Did you and Mr. Situ sign a prenuptial agreement for this engagement..."

Bai Yu had no idea what news Situ Jing had released this time. His mind was in chaos, like a primitive person just emerging from the forest.

Situ Jing pulled Bai Yu into his arms, shielding him from the media cameras. With security escorting them, the two entered the hotel together.

The grand ballroom was dazzling under crystal chandeliers, adorned with countless Damask roses that filled the air with a rich floral fragrance.

Waiters circulated through the well-dressed crowd, carrying glasses of champagne.

If not for the poster on the high platform bearing his and Situ Jing’s initials, Bai Yu would hardly have believed he was the guest of honor of this banquet.

Soon, the guests noticed Situ Jing and Bai Yu’s arrival and approached them.

Almost all the big names of Yunjing were present. Many knew that Situ Jing had recently driven Bai Yu away and was about to marry a high-ranking omega, but had suddenly called off the engagement and brought this lover back.

People were outwardly friendly to him, but privately they wondered what he had to make Situ Jing so unforgettable and willing to make such an outrageous decision.

Bai Yu stood by Situ Jing’s side, barely spoke. He wasn’t exactly cold, but he showed not a hint of the joy expected of someone about to be married.

Occasionally, when Situ Jing turned to look at Bai Yu, he noticed him staring blankly into the distance, his eyes empty.

Situ Long, swamped with work, didn’t attend the engagement party but sent an online blessing to Situ Jing and Bai Yu.

Situ Jian excused himself, pleading illness, and didn’t come either.

After the engagement party, Situ Jing drove Bai Yu back to Yanting. Holding his hand, he said, "Don’t worry about what others think. From now on, you are my wife."

Bai Yu didn't feel anything in particular, just tired, and closed his eyes.

To put Bai Yu at ease, Situ Jing wanted to say something more, but when he turned to look, he found Bai Yu had fallen asleep.

Situ Jing pulled Bai Yu into his arms, letting him rest against his shoulder, but a strange feeling stirred in him.

Bai Yu used to talk a lot; once he started, he would chatter nonstop.

Now he had become very quiet, his expression growing more and more numb.

It didn’t seem to be because of his family’s disapproval or the unfriendly glances from some people—it felt like something else.

    *

After the engagement banquet, Bai Yu’s fame grew even more.

A wildly popular online drama used Bai Yu’s song "Enosh" as its ending theme, successfully pushing the track back to the top of the trending charts.

Thanks to this song, Bai Yu received a nomination for the Most Popular Golden Melody Award.

He only found out about the news while scrolling through videos on his phone, sitting on the sofa in his bedroom at Yanting.

Situ Jing mercifully allowed him to attend the awards ceremony.

That night, Bai Yu was escorted by a crowd as he entered the venue.

For someone who rarely went out, it gave him a moment of freedom and a slight sense of still having a place in the world.

Two musicians who'd once sneered at him on the red carpet in Haicheng were also present; they had received nominations as well.

Bai Yu sat with everyone else in the audience, waiting to see who would win the final award.

When the host announced Bai Yu’s name, he was momentarily surprised before standing up and walking onto the stage.

As he made his way up, he heard someone behind him mock, "His music is trash. Everyone here knows the real reason he won."

The voice wasn’t loud, but the entire audience heard it.

The host quickly reacted, making some diplomatic remarks to ease the tension.

Bai Yu calmly accepted the award, but on his way back, he was deeply upset.

A few days later, Bai Yu saw that the musician who had mocked him was exposed—caught in scandals involving affairs, gambling, and drunken indiscretions.

All the brands he worked with terminated their contracts, variety shows edited him out, his upcoming album was canceled, and he was effectively blacklisted in the industry.

Bai Yu didn’t know if Situ Jing was behind it, but after that, he never heard anyone bad-mouth him again.

Maybe it was because he didn’t go out, so he couldn’t hear anything.

Many fans online urged Bai Yu to release a new album, but a significant number speculated that he might be preparing for pregnancy, hence his rare public appearances.

His studio didn’t respond, and neither did Situ Jing.

After autumn arrived, the weather turned cooler, and Bai Yu often sat spacing out on the sofa in his bedroom.

He would sit there for hours.

Occasionally, the butler would bring in fruit and find Bai Yu’s eyes empty and lifeless, like an exquisitely beautiful marionette.

His body was still there, but his soul was gradually withering away.

The butler softly reminded him, "Sir, please eat something."

Bai Yu snapped out of it and mechanically picked up a fork, spearing a piece of peach and putting it in his mouth.

The butler added, "If you’re feeling cooped up, you can go to the music room or play with Babao in the living room."

Bai Yu just nodded but didn’t move.

Even when the butler intentionally left the bedroom door open, allowing a view of the music room just across the way, Bai Yu never stepped out of the bedroom.

    *

Situ Jing was well aware that Bai Yu’s mental state was deteriorating.

He cut the number of bodyguards in the villa by a third and allowed Bai Yu to move around the garden and golf course, but Bai Yu no longer went out.

Situ Jing returned from work and took Bai Yu for a walk in the garden.

Bai Yu didn’t resist, but he showed no enthusiasm either.

As they walked along the white pebble path, Situ Jing suddenly stepped ahead and pointed at a chrysalis hanging in the camellia bushes. "Look, what’s this?"

Bai Yu’s tea-brown cat-like eyes blinked, as if he was looking but not really seeing, his expression blank and numb. "It’s a chrysalis."

Situ Jing looked at Bai Yu, hoping he would say more, even if it was meaningless chatter, but there was nothing else.

Sudden panic gripped him, and he immediately called Jiang Ming.

As soon as Jiang Ming answered, his employer scolded him, "Quack doctor, what kind of medicine did you prescribe?"

Jiang Ming was baffled. Why was he suddenly being yelled at?

    "I prescribed normal hormone-regulating medication. What’s wrong?"

Situ Jing lowered his voice. "Did you prescribe anything that could affect the nervous system?"

Jiang Ming frowned. "No. What’s going on with him?"

    "Come take a look."

Jiang Ming rushed to Yanting and examined Bai Yu, but all the results were normal.

However, Bai Yu’s condition was indeed poor; from the moment he lay on the examination bed, he didn’t say a word, completely lacking his former vitality.

    How to describe it? Like...

A beautiful corpse that was still alive.

Jiang Ming handed the test results to Situ Jing. "Maybe he’s just depressed. Try communicating with him more."

Situ Jing carried Bai Yu back to the second-floor bedroom, placed him on the sofa, and sat down opposite him.

"Is this your new trick, Bai Yu?"

Bai Yu didn’t move or speak.

He couldn’t think of anything to say to Situ Jing.

Situ Jing knew every corner of Yanting intimately—he’d even installed surveillance in the bedroom to monitor Bai Yu’s every move.

What was left for him to say?

As soon as Situ Jing returned, he took him to the garden for a walk, then inexplicably called Jiang Ming over to give him a check-up, brought him upstairs, and even said something about "tricks"?

Maybe he really had been staying in his room for too long, or had taken too much medicine, which made him even slower to react—Bai Yu didn't even understand what Situ Jing was talking about.

Situ Jing didn’t get a response from him and suddenly stood up and walked out.

From that day on, the Western medicine Bai Yu took after meals was reduced and replaced with traditional Chinese medicine packets.

Every night, Situ Jing would try to come back as early as possible, taking Bai Yu to the garden for walks, forcing him to speak as if it were language rehabilitation training.

Sometimes Bai Yu would mention what he ate for his three meals, what movies he watched, or what fruit the butler brought, but he never again talked about the whimsical things he used to talk about.

Their conversations remained hollow, limited to simple questions and answers.

Even in bed, Bai Yu was extremely unresponsive. Even with his eyes open, he was distracted.

Before, when he felt pain, he'd at least make a sound or scratch his back, but now he stayed completely silent.

"Do you think acting like this will make me let you go?"

Situ Jing once thought about unleashing his inner brutality to provoke even the slightest reaction from Bai Yu, but when he looked into Bai Yu’s eyes, it only stirred a deeper fear.

Bai Yu’s hollow, numb expression made it seem as though even if a knife were plunged into his body and blood gushed out, he wouldn’t flinch.

Situ Jing couldn’t help but wonder, had he been too hard on Bai Yu?

He had done so much for Bai Yu, only wanting him to have his child and stay by his side forever. Was that such a difficult request?

Why was Bai Yu, who could adapt anywhere, now unable to adjust to life here?

Situ Jing stopped, kissed Bai Yu’s forehead and eyes, carried him to the bathroom to wash up, and then brought him back to bed.

After turning off the light, Situ Jing held Bai Yu in his arms. His breathing gradually steadied, but Situ Jing couldn’t fall asleep.

When he finally managed to sleep, he started dreaming.

In the dream, Situ Jing was shaken awake by Bai Yu, who said to him, "Mr. Situ, you should go to work."

Situ Jing frowned. "Why aren't you calling me 'husband'?"

Bai Yu said, "Because I’m not Bai Yu."

Situ Jing looked Bai Yu up and down. "If you’re not, then who is?"

Bai Yu pointed at Babao in the cat bed nearby. "Well, Bai Yu told me he was really unhappy, that he wanted to be a cat and not a human anymore, so he asked to swap souls with me. And we did."

"I found out his life is even worse than mine. At least I can climb trees, wander outside the villa, and play with other cats. But he can’t—he has no friends, nothing to do. The only person he ever sees is you when you come home, like a pet trapped in a cage."

Situ Jing’s tone turned harsh. "That’s not true. Change back with him, now!"

"You’re so mean. I don’t want to be human anymore either."

Bai Yu reached out and drew something in the air. Then he fainted.

Situ Jing held Bai Yu but couldn’t wake him.

Just then, Babao walked over to Situ Jing’s feet and looked at Bai Yu. "He doesn’t want to come back."

Situ Jing stared at the chubby cat by his feet. "What do you mean, he doesn’t want to come back?"

Babao licked his paw. "Aren’t you smart enough to understand?"

The moment Babao finished speaking, Situ Jing looked at Bai Yu in his arms, who instantly turned into a dried-out sponge, fell to the ground with a thud, shattered into powder, and was blown away by a gust of wind, until nothing was left.

Situ Jing woke from the dream, his heart still pounding violently with a faint, dull pain.

Then, he realized the space next to him was empty.

Situ Jing immediately got out of bed and searched the bedroom for Bai Yu before rushing downstairs.

In the kitchen, he finally saw him.

Bai Yu, wearing thin pajamas, was holding a sharp knife.

    "What are you doing?!"

Hearing Situ Jing call his name, Bai Yu looked up, stunned, the knife still in his hand.

Situ Jing strode over, snatched the knife from him, and asked again, trying to sound calm, "What are you doing?"

Bai Yu pointed at the apples and pears on the table, pausing for a few seconds as if searching for the right words. "I... wanted to make fruit soup."

The autumn night wasn’t particularly cold, and a breeze from outside ruffled the hair on Bai Yu’s forehead.

At the same time, cold sweat broke out on Situ Jing’s back.

A terrifying thought he desperately didn’t want to face crept into his mind—

Even if Bai Yu hadn’t reached the point of not wanting to live, he wasn’t far from it.

"If you’re hungry, ask the butler to make it for you. You’re not allowed in the kitchen from now on."

With a clatter, Situ Jing threw the knife into the trash and carried Bai Yu back upstairs.

After eating the fruit soup brought by the butler, Bai Yu fell into a deep sleep, but Situ Jing couldn’t sleep at all.

Early the next morning, Situ Jing drove Bai Yu out.

They had been on the road for half an hour when Bai Yu finally asked, "Where are we going?"

Situ Jing said, "To see a doctor."

Bai Yu looked at him, confused. "But don’t we have Dr. Jiang Ming?"

Situ Jing paused. "Not for a physical illness."

    *

When they arrived at the psychological clinic, Situ Jing took Bai Yu to Ji Zhiyao’s office.

It was Ji Zhiyao’s first time meeting Bai Yu.

Situ Jing said it was urgent and offered extra payment, forcing Ji Zhiyao to cancel his scheduled appointments for the day and see Bai Yu immediately.

However, for an entire hour, Bai Yu said nothing, sitting rigidly on the beige sofa.

He had a fair, beautiful appearance, dressed in branded clothes, delicate like a porcelain doll, but his inner world was as still and lifeless as a stagnant pond.

To understand how this situation had come about, Ji Zhiyao spoke with Situ Jing alone. "When did he start becoming like this?"

Situ Jing replied calmly, "A while ago."

Ji Zhiyao asked, "Was it specifically months ago, or weeks ago?"

Situ Jing touched his chin, thought for a few seconds, and he said in a hoarse voice, "After we got engaged."

Ji Zhiyao asked again, "What do you think made him act this way?"

Situ Jing paused for a few seconds, stood up abruptly, and said, "That's your job. I will bring him here every week, and I hope you can resolve this issue as soon as possible."

Ji Zhiyao felt that earning Situ Jing's trust was particularly rare, but the problem he was facing this time was extremely difficult to handle.

In the following weeks, Bai Yu would sleep through his sessions.

Ji Zhiyao could tell that even while asleep, Bai Yu was easily startled, as if he was still dreaming.

On Bai Yu's eighth visit to the clinic, it was snowing heavily outside.

Considering his poor physical condition and that he'd likely fall asleep again, Ji Zhiyao intended to raise the room temperature by two degrees but accidentally hit the music app on his phone, playing a song.

    It was Bai Yu's "Beach."

Ji Zhiyao saw a flash of surprise in Bai Yu's eyes, but he quickly averted his gaze, sat in his usual spot on the sofa, legs together, quiet and proper.

Ji Zhiyao adjusted the room temperature and, as usual, asked Bai Yu, "How have you been lately? Is there anything you'd like to share?"

Bai Yu lowered his head, rubbed his hands together, looked out the window at the falling snow, and did not answer the question.

Ji Zhiyao didn't press further and patiently sat opposite him on the sofa.

Just as Ji Zhiyao thought Bai Yu was about to fall asleep again, he heard him speak in a strained voice, "Situ Jing told me he's told you everything about us?"

    Ji Zhiyao calmly replied, "Yes."

Bai Yu wrung his hands, "Then do you know Qiao Yihan?"

    Ji Zhiyao said, "Yes."

Bai Yu took a deep breath, as if mustering great courage for what he was about to say next.

    "Lately, I've been thinking..."

    Ji Zhiyao asked, "Thinking what?"

Bai Yu looked up at Ji Zhiyao, "Maybe Qiao Yihan was right. Deep down, he and I are the same kind of person. Even though I feel sympathy for others and empathize easily, it seems I've never truly loved anyone. No one has ever reached the deepest part of me. I might be incapable of love."

"Even if Situ Jing gets me pregnant again, we have a child, or even get married, it wouldn’t change anything."

While Ji Zhiyao was still surprised and about to ask a question, Bai Yu had already stood up and left the clinic.

It was as if he understood why Bai Yu had suddenly chosen to speak up at that moment.

He didn't believe Ji Zhiyao could help him solve this problem, but he didn’t want to make things difficult for Ji Zhiyao or leave him unable to explain the situation to Situ Jing.
