Chapter 34 Eating Barbecue
byChapter 34: Going for BBQ
A week later, the weather was gorgeous, all sunshine and blue skies.
Fang Xuran leaned in, phone in hand, and waved it at Cheng Feng:
"Xiao Feng, wanna grab a bite out? Barbecue?"
Cheng Feng, still buried in his books, looked up at him:
"Barbecue? Just the two of us?"
Fang Xuran waved his hand dismissively: "Butler Liu and Brother Li are coming too, along with Xu Muyao and Tan Zihan, our coworkers. Are you in?"
Cheng Feng thought for a moment: "Don't they have BBQ at the cafeteria? Why go out?"
Fang Xuran laughed: "Just for the atmosphere. Luo Jun's on shift today, otherwise he'd join us. You're always cooped up studying, reading, and doing food delivery—aren't you tired? You should take a real break."
Cheng Feng was quiet for a moment, realizing he hadn't truly relaxed in a long time, and nodded:
"Alright then, when are we going?"
"6:30 tonight, we'll head out."
"Okay."
At twenty past six, Cheng Feng changed into a red top with black pants and clean sneakers.
Fang Xuran saw him and clicked his tongue:
"You've been rotating the same two outfits, what's with the new look today?"
Cheng Feng blushed, feeling a bit embarrassed.
He actually liked dressing up too.
Although Shang Xu had bought him ten sets of clothes before, he couldn't bear to wear them, sticking to just two sets in rotation while carefully storing the rest in his closet.
"Going out to have fun, of course I'd change. Can't keep wearing the same two sets every day."
Fang Xuran smiled, "Looks good. If girls from other families didn't know your age, they'd probably be fighting for your contact info."
Following Fang Xuran out of the villa, a spacious black business vehicle was parked at the entrance.
Cheng Feng was slightly taken aback. Once inside, he realized Brother Li was driving.
Fang Xuran whistled: "Brother Li, you're loaded! Buying such an expensive luxury car."
Brother Li chuckled: "It's alright. If you work as long as I have, you could afford one easily too."
Xu Muyao, sitting in the front passenger seat, turned to look at him, her eyes lighting up:
"Cheng Feng, is that a new outfit? They look really good, much better than that all-black set. They really suit your slightly roguish charm. You look great in bright colors, especially red."
Cheng Feng's heart stirred.
When he was little, during New Year's, his mother had once said he looked especially striking and handsome in red.
But later, she stopped letting him wear it.
Because being too good-looking was a disaster for him in his past life as a girl. The prettier he was, the more dangerous it became.
Suppressing the memories, he smiled. He had finally escaped that life.
About forty minutes later, the car stopped in front of a barbecue restaurant.
Just the storefront exuded a sense of sophistication, with exquisite decor and soft lighting.
Cheng Feng was stunned: "Aren't we eating street-side barbecue?"
Butler Liu explained: "Street barbecue isn't too clean. The eldest young master and the third young master are coming too. They wouldn't eat anything unclean."
Cheng Feng pursed his lips. He had eaten plenty of that kind of "junk food" himself.
Everyone entered the restaurant together. The interior was even more luxurious, with lighting, ornaments, tables, and chairs all exuding refinement.
Cheng Feng couldn't help but marvel inwardly.
This was definitely a rich people's spot—even a barbecue joint was this fancy.
Fang Xuran walked beside him, muttering quietly:
"Places like this have no vibe at all, no lively atmosphere. I thought it was just us. I didn't expect the young masters to come. Why would they join our little gathering?"
Butler Liu overheard and said with a smile:
"I mentioned it. The eldest young master saw me in casual clothes and asked where I was going. When the third young master heard, he insisted on tagging along. The youngest young master wanted to come too, but he hasn't finished his homework, so he has to stay home. The second young lady might come if she's free, but I suspect she's still working on test papers and won't be done anytime soon."
Tan Zihan asked curiously: "Why?"
"She's slow at solving problems and can't stop once she starts a test paper," Butler Liu replied with a smile.
The group was led to a private room.
Butler Liu spoke first: "The two seats at the head of the table are for the eldest young master and the third young master. Don't sit there, understand?"
Everyone nodded.
After sitting down, Butler Liu gestured to them:
"Everyone, take a seat."
He then picked up the elegant menu and handed it to them: "Here, you order first."
Tan Zihan was taken aback: "Shouldn't we wait for the young masters?"
"Order first," Butler Liu said. "If they want more when they arrive, we can add to it. Otherwise, if we wait for them to order, we'll be waiting a while. Order now, let the food come out slowly, and they can start eating as soon as they get here."
Brother Li suggested: "How about a bit of everything?"
Butler Liu nodded: "That works too."
He looked at the server beside him and said calmly:
"Twenty portions of every barbecue item on the menu."
Cheng Feng glanced down at the menu and was completely stunned.
The barbecue here cost over a hundred yuan per skewer.
He silently calculated in his head—this meal would amount to an astronomical sum, wouldn't it?
So extravagant. It's just barbecue, right? This is like burning money.
