Chapter 53 Why Not Call the Police?
by 林西成仙入定Chapter 53: Why Not Call the Police?
Cheng Feng then briefly recounted how he left that place and was sent to the hospital, without going into further detail:
"That's the story. It's over."
"That's all?" Shang Shaohao was dissatisfied. "What happened to Little Cheng and his mother later? Didn't they find his maternal grandparents? Did his mother's illness get better? How were they doing in the big city? Did that boy become stronger and rise up later?"
Cheng Feng fell silent for a long time. "Little Cheng didn't know who his maternal grandparents were or where they were. All the information was unknown. His mother's illness... will get better. They're probably doing quite well."
"And then? Wouldn't that Little Cheng be arrested by the police? He killed someone!"
Cheng Feng looked at Shang Shaohao, staring straight at him.
"If your family killed someone, would you be arrested?"
Shang Shaohao: "Our family is different."
Cheng Feng: "Do you think a murderer would call the police to arrest another murderer? Everyone in that village is a murderer, so they wouldn't dare."
Shang Shaohao was stunned but remained curious about what happened next.
"What about the rest of the story?"
Cheng Feng: "That's the story. There's no ending. What happens to them afterward, you imagine it yourself, because I don't know what their final outcome will be either."
The room fell quiet.
Shang Shaohao stared at Cheng Feng for a while before suddenly speaking up.
"That Little Cheng... is you, isn't it?"
Cheng Feng didn't deny it, just lowered his gaze and asked softly, "Will you report me? Call the police and have me arrested?"
Shang Shaohao curled his lip, his face full of disdain.
"Those two deserved it, they should have died. What's there to report? Besides, I think they should have been strung up and sliced a thousand times."
He paused, then added viciously:
"And then you call the police and have everyone in their village arrested. That way, everyone in your village would be doomed."
"Young Master, you're so naive." Cheng Feng shook his head. "If a village like that could be easily taken down, there wouldn't be so many trafficked women disappearing. Everyone in that place is in cahoots. If I call the police? That would be arresting myself. I killed someone; I'd be arrested too."
"You could report it to higher-ups, couldn't you? Not all police are from your village. There aren't that many bad cops."
"But I still killed someone." Cheng Feng knew not all police were bad, so he still believed the police would definitely protect the people. However, the village police weren't so easy to eliminate; they had connections. The fact that such a place could exist meant, to be honest, some higher-ups allowed it. Once he reported it, he'd be the one arrested.
Shang Shaohao snorted coldly. "So you killed them. Tell me the address of that village. I'll take some people there and wipe them all out."
Cheng Feng smiled but didn't respond.
It wasn't as if police had never gone to their village before. But those police officers eventually disappeared without a trace—alive or dead, no one knew.
No surveillance cameras, no clues. It was impossible to find out who did it, so in the end, it was just left unresolved.
Even if the Young Master went there with a few people, the place was remote with treacherous mountains and roads. It would probably be a near-suicidal mission.
"Who are you looking down on?" Shang Shaohao glared at him unhappily. "I can definitely wipe out that group."
Cheng Feng sighed inwardly.
If the Eldest Young Master led the team, backed by proper police force, there might be some possibility. But the Young Master going there with just a few brothers would be practically asking for death.
He yawned. "Young Master, time to sleep. It's already half past midnight. I'm really sleepy."
Shang Shaohao curled his lip, turned over with his back to him, and after a while, let out a muffled "hmph" before closing his eyes.
A little over ten minutes later, Cheng Feng called his name softly twice. Seeing no response, he leaned over to check his breathing and expression, confirming he was really asleep. Only then did he get up, turn off the main light, leaving only a dim nightlight, and quietly left the room.
Returning to the dormitory, he quickly washed up, changed into clean clothes, collapsed onto the bed, and soon fell asleep.
The next morning, Shang Shaohao, unusually, wasn't dozing off or spacing out. Instead, he was hunched over the desk studying origami.
But the things he folded became stranger and stranger, all sorts of messy shapes.
Cheng Feng couldn't stand it anymore and directly collected all the origami, putting them aside.
"Young Master, pay attention in class."
Interrupted, Shang Shaohao immediately flared up.
"What are you doing?!"
As he spoke, he reached out to snatch them back, even wanting to hit him.
Cheng Feng was prepared. As soon as class ended, he took out his phone, pretending to call the Eldest Young Master to scare him.
But he had only meant to pretend; he accidentally actually pressed the dial button.
The call actually went through.
"Cheng Feng?" Shang Xu's deep voice came from the other end.
Cheng Feng froze. What should he say?
"E-Eldest Young Master..."
"What's wrong with Shaohao?" Shang Xu's voice betrayed no emotion.
"N-nothing... I pressed the wrong button," Cheng Feng said.
"Let Shang Shaohao answer the phone."
Cheng Feng had no choice but to hand the phone to Shang Shaohao.
When Shang Shaohao took the phone, he instantly wilted, his voice softening.
"Bro..."
Cheng Feng didn't know what was said on the other end. He only saw Shang Shaohao's expression change from initial impatience to guilt, and finally to obedient compliance.
In the next class, Shang Shaohao, surprisingly and unprecedentedly, listened attentively. He even took out a notebook and started taking notes, stroke by stroke.
Cheng Feng was slightly taken aback, then inwardly breathed a sigh of relief. He was finally starting to study.
Throughout the day, Cheng Feng encountered many things he didn't understand. Whenever he faced a difficult problem, he would use the break to go to the teachers' office and ask.
After school ended at 4:30 PM, he and Shang Shaohao parted ways at the school gate.
Cheng Feng then went to the basketball gym to practice.
