Chapter 70 Job Transfer
by 林西成仙入定Chapter 70: Reassignment
Cheng Feng buried his face in his arms and sighed in frustration.
He was genuinely afraid of those people who hounded and ambushed him; he didn't even have the energy to look up.
It had only been a week, yet it felt as long as an entire year.
He couldn't shake the feeling of countless eyes glued to his back, making even walking uncomfortable. He finally understood how celebrities felt being constantly watched. It was terrifying—he even felt like someone was staring at him in the restroom.
Cheng Feng prayed desperately, begging those people to stop liking him, to stop chasing after him.
The mere act of rejecting them had drained all his patience and energy; it was utterly maddening.
He turned his head to look at Shang Shaohao beside him. Shang Shaohao had been the top school heartthrob before and must have ways to deal with this kind of situation.
"How did you reject those people before?"
Shang Shaohao raised an eyebrow and chuckled lightly, a hint of disdain in his voice. "I never had to reject them. I just had to keep a cold face, and they wouldn't dare come near. That's how those people are—they bully the weak and fear the strong. When they meet someone who seems easy to push around or too nice, they chase desperately, thinking that person will eventually agree."
Cheng Feng: "..."
So, was it because he was too nice?
It wasn't that he hadn't tried putting on a stern face. But every time he met the earnest eyes of those girls, saw the little cakes they'd made themselves, or the letters they'd spent so long writing, he couldn't bring himself to be harsh.
The consequence of being too soft-hearted was that more and more people liked him.
Cheng Feng felt like crying.
He didn't want so many people to like him at all. It was essentially harassment in disguise and was affecting his studies.
Even if they meant no harm, the pressure was suffocating.
With no other choice, Cheng Feng forced himself to harden his heart, turning a blind eye and a deaf ear to those confessions.
Gradually, the number of people cornering him did decrease somewhat. The weight on his shoulders lightened, and he could finally sit in the classroom and study in peace.
But perhaps as a lingering effect of being pursued, he couldn't calm his mind. He was easily distracted while doing homework. When the monthly exam results came out, his grades had visibly slipped a notch.
As the end of the month approached, Young Master Shang Xu organized an assessment test.
Shang Shaohao made remarkable progress and received a bonus of three million yuan. Cheng Feng, however, not only didn't get a single yuan in reward but was also kept behind by Shang Xu alone.
Cheng Feng hung his head, his voice low.
"Young Master, I'm sorry, I..."
Shang Xu looked up at him, his tone calm. "Are you in a relationship, or is there something else?"
Cheng Feng hesitated for a moment but then truthfully explained everything about being pursued and his recent inability to concentrate.
The living room fell silent for a long time, so long that Cheng Feng's palms grew sweaty and his heartbeat quickened.
Just when he thought he was about to be scolded, Shang Xu finally spoke slowly. "Go back. If you encounter this kind of thing again in the future, just ignore it. Don't let these matters disturb your mind. If you can't calm down, go to the piano room and practice."
Cheng Feng looked up at him in surprise. Previously, hadn't he said that if Cheng Feng regressed, the funding would stop? Was the young master giving him a pass this time? And he hadn't even reprimanded him.
Walking back to the dormitory, he kept his head down, his heart a mix of conflicting emotions.
Thinking about not getting the bonus this time, Cheng Feng's eyes reddened again. He felt he was somewhat slacking off, not paying enough attention in class, and being so easily affected by trivial matters. It really shouldn't be this way.
The next afternoon after school, just as Cheng Feng finished packing his bag, his phone rang. It was Butler Liu calling.
On the other end, Butler Liu's voice carried a smile. "Cheng Feng, I have something to tell you. You've been reassigned."
Cheng Feng froze, the pen in his hand clattering onto the desk. Panic surged in his heart. Were they letting him go?
"Reassigned? To where?"
"Reassigned to the young master's side. From now on, you'll be specifically serving the young master."
The young master?
Cheng Feng's mind buzzed, instantly jolting him to alertness.
He hurriedly asked, "Then, Butler Liu, if I go to serve the young master, what about the little master? Who will supervise his studies?"
"No need to worry about that," Butler Liu said with a laugh. "The little master has already developed good habits now. For the pocket money the young master gives him, he studies actively every day. You'll just need to keep an eye on him at school from now on."
Cheng Feng swallowed and asked again, "Then what exactly do I need to do serving the young master? Do I need special training for a week?"
If there was training, wouldn't he have to ask for leave? His studies would definitely fall behind.
"No training needed," Butler Liu said decisively. "Just follow the same pattern as when you took care of the little master, looking after the young master's daily life."
Looking after his daily life?
Cheng Feng's mind buzzed again, instantly thinking of things like helping someone bathe. Shang Shaohao was still a kid, with fewer reservations, but Shang Xu was an adult!
Just imagining that scene made Cheng Feng's ears burn.
He couldn't understand why the young master had suddenly reassigned him.
"So, do I start serving the young master tomorrow? What about the shift schedule..."
"There's no shift schedule," Butler Liu interrupted him. "After school, if you have nothing else to do, just go to the young master's place. If the young master isn't home, you don't need to go. You can arrange your own time then."
Go over if I have nothing to do?
Doesn't that mean almost no days off?
Cheng Feng: "Uncle Liu, so I don't have fixed days off?"
He wasn't greedy for time off, but he was thinking he could still do food delivery on weekends to earn more money for his mother's treatment.
Butler Liu seemed to see through his thoughts. He chuckled lightly, and his next sentence delighted Cheng Feng.
"As for days off, you'll probably have more than when you served the little master. After all, the young master rarely stays at home. He might only need your care for a few days a month. Even if he stays home often, it won't be for extended stays. You just need to serve him when he's there."
"Starting next month—after you get this month's pay—your monthly salary will increase to 50,000 yuan, with commissions calculated separately."
"For accommodation, you'll move directly into the young master's villa. I've already arranged a room. Once you're there, a maid will tell you exactly where you'll stay and the usual things to pay attention to."
50,000?!
Cheng Feng felt his heart was about to leap out of his throat.
This was so much more than he could earn from food delivery! Even without days off, it was worth it!
His voice was full of excitement: "Uncle Liu! When's my first shift?"
"Tonight."
Cheng Feng froze.
Tonight?
It was already 9:30 p.m., and he hadn't even finished his Chinese homework yet! If he went now, wouldn't it eat into the time for his homework?
But then again, money was what mattered! He could just stay up late to finish it—after all, Chinese assignments only took about half an hour.
Sitting in the car, Cheng Feng hesitated for a moment before telling Shang Shaohao about his transfer to work for the eldest young master.
As soon as Shang Shaohao heard, his eyes widened instantly, and he raised his voice in protest:
"What? My brother is stealing my nanny? Can't he hire someone new if he needs help? Why does he have to poach from me? No way! If I lose someone, I'll have to recruit all over again—what a hassle! And when Zhang Yuantao and I want to play games with you, it'll be even harder! Jeez, my brother is the worst!"
Cheng Feng wondered, recruiting someone new shouldn't be that troublesome, right? As for gaming, couldn't they just play with Luo Jun instead?
Maybe Luo Jun was too good at games, and they couldn't keep up? Or perhaps there was some generation gap between them, making it hard to play together?
He kept that thought to himself. In situations like this, he only had the duty to follow orders, not the right to question them.
Fuming, Shang Shaohao pulled out his phone and called Shang Xu directly. As soon as the call connected, he launched into an indignant complaint:
"Brother, how could you steal my nanny? Can't you just hire a new one yourself?"
Cheng Feng couldn't hear what Shang Xu said on the other end.
He only saw Shang Shaohao's expression gradually soften, until finally, he even grinned, his tone turning into a bargaining one:
"Alright, fine, brother. But I have a condition! You have to find me a prettier nanny—one even better-looking than Cheng Feng! Preferably someone as obedient as him, and it has to be a woman! If it's a man, it'll be awkward when I take a bath..."
Cheng Feng couldn't help but twitch his lips.
Was the young master expecting a female nanny to bathe him?
Didn't he like the other two sisters?
Was this kid just a pervert? Could he be using the nanny search as an excuse to find himself something like a concubine from ancient times?
