Chapter 40 The Big Rat
by 林西成仙入定Chapter 40: Big Mouse
Ten minutes into the class, Shang Shaohao had already slumped over the desk, fast asleep.
Cheng Feng stared at Shang Shaohao's head for a good while before giving him a poke.
Shang Shaohao didn't react.
Cheng Feng leaned close to Shang Shaohao's ear and whispered,
"Young Master, if you keep sleeping, I'll tell the whole class you wet the bed."
Shang Shaohao: "..."
He snapped his eyes open and glared at Cheng Feng. "Are you crazy? Who wets the bed? I haven't wet the bed since I was three. Don't start spreading rumors here."
Cheng Feng flashed a bright smile. "Then I'll just say you wet the bed before you were three."
Shang Shaohao rolled his eyes. "Fine, just you wait. See how I deal with you when we get back!"
Cheng Feng felt his heart tighten. Was he going to get a beating the moment they got back?
Getting hit was one thing—he'd been hit before—but having his pay docked was absolutely unacceptable.
As he was thinking this, the teacher's gaze swept over the room.
Cheng Feng instinctively looked up, his eyes meeting the teacher's.
The teacher immediately called on him. "That student, stand up and answer the question."
Cheng Feng froze, pointing at himself. "Teacher, me?"
"Yes," the teacher nodded.
This particular teacher had a habit of calling on students who made eye contact with him. He always believed that children who dared to look him in the eye must be ready to contribute.
Cheng Feng looked at the problem on the blackboard, a look of embarrassment flashing across his face.
The content of this lesson was completely different from what he had learned before. He hadn't understood a word of it, let alone knew how to answer.
He said honestly, "Teacher, I'm sorry, I don't really understand this question."
The teacher, however, smiled. He appreciated honest kids like this the most.
It was better to admit you didn't know than to pretend you did.
So, he patiently went over the problem again.
This time, Cheng Feng finally understood.
As for Shang Shaohao, he was resting his chin in his hand, staring vacantly ahead, the corners of his mouth slightly downturned, looking completely zoned out. Clearly, he hadn't listened to a single word.
Cheng Feng sighed inwardly.
You couldn't expect the young master to change overnight. It would have to be a gradual process. Starting with not sleeping in class was a good first step.
Surprisingly, for the remainder of the class, Shang Shaohao actually didn't fall asleep again.
However, his eyes stayed glued to Cheng Feng the entire time.
That stare made Cheng Feng's skin crawl, as if he were being watched by a venomous snake. The moment he let his guard down, he would be tightly coiled around and slowly strangled.
The class bell rang.
Two girls, giggling and nudging each other, walked up to Cheng Feng's desk. With a hint of shyness, they quietly asked for his contact information.
Cheng Feng was taken aback. He had never imagined that someone as ordinary as himself, on his very first day at school, would have people coming up to talk to him.
Especially since they were young ladies from an elite school like this.
Still, he was quite pleased. They were from wealthy families. Getting to know them could be useful for his future. Expanding his social circle was a must.
However, Cheng Feng didn't continue chatting with them. After exchanging a few words, he left the classroom because he needed to go to the restroom.
At the restroom entrance, Cheng Feng looked at the Men's and Women's signs and sighed.
-
Every time he came to a public restroom, he felt a deep sense of awkwardness.
Because using the restroom was just plain embarrassing.
The men's urinals were all installed right by the entrance. Anyone passing by the door could see inside in one glance.
The so-called "partitions" were just thin panels, offering no privacy whatsoever.
Frankly, this design seemed utterly absurd to him. He couldn't understand why the urinals had to be placed in such a conspicuous spot. Couldn't they be moved further inside?
Cheng Feng sighed and walked into the men's restroom.
Inside, Shang Shaohao and Zhang Yuantao were standing at the urinals, each occupying a spot with an empty one between them. They were chatting casually while peeing, perfectly comfortable and showing no sign of embarrassment.
Cheng Feng silently walked to the innermost position, leaving another empty spot between himself and Zhang Yuantao, trying to put as much distance as possible between them.
Zhang Yuantao glanced sideways at him, gave a low whistle, and said in a teasing tone,
"Hey, brother, that's a big mouse! What have you been feeding it?"
Cheng Feng's face instantly flushed bright red. He wished he could vanish on the spot.
Gritting his teeth, he remained silent, hurriedly finished up, zipped up and headed for the sinks.
Seeing that he was being ignored, Zhang Yuantao frowned and followed him over, standing next to him.
"Hey, what's your problem? Why aren't you answering me?"
Cheng Feng turned his head, momentarily forgetting the other's privileged status, and instinctively retorted,
"What am I supposed to answer? About your little guy?"
The words were out of his mouth before he could stop them.
He immediately regretted it.
He was terrified the young master would fly into a rage and then beat him up.
