Chapter 88 Don’t Delude Yourself
by 林西成仙入定Chapter 88: Don't Harbor Delusions
Cheng Feng had originally thought that the next time he saw the young master would be in six months to a year, not until he returned to City C. He never expected the opportunity would come just a month later.
Butler Liu found him, his expression grave, and said that Shang Xu had a run-in with people seeking revenge.
Gu Ming'en, in order to protect the young master, was shot in the chest and was now recuperating in the hospital. That's why they needed Cheng Feng to come and take care of the young master. They even arranged for him to move directly into the villa where the young master often stayed.
This villa was specifically purchased by the young master to make work here more convenient.
Cheng Feng stood at the main gate of the villa with his suitcase in tow, took a deep breath, and turned to look at Butler Liu beside him:
"Is Brother Ming'en okay?"
Butler Liu sighed: "He pulled through, but he'll need to recuperate for a while."
That's when Cheng Feng realized that not only did the police have handguns; some wealthy people had them as well.
Weren't handguns supposed to require special state approval? Could those seeking revenge be gangsters? Otherwise, where did they get the guns? He didn't understand these intricacies. It was a wealthy family after all—they had everything.
Truth be told, Butler Liu didn't really want to send for Cheng Feng either. But the moves Cheng Feng showed last time were more effective than several professional bodyguards. At the moment, they really couldn't find anyone more suitable.
Of course, if Cheng Feng didn't want to, he would inform the young master and hire more capable people. But finding someone would take time. Right now, the young master needed someone to take care of him and protect him around the clock. Finding someone new would be a hassle; it was easier to use who they had on hand.
He looked at Cheng Feng and asked seriously: "Xiao Feng, you're as good as several bodyguards put together. Recently, things haven't been peaceful around the young master. If you follow him, there might be danger. Are you scared?"
Cheng Feng was afraid, but he knew even better that he should protect the young master. The young master had given him too much. Without the young master, he wouldn't have been able to study, wouldn't have gotten into university, and would probably just be an ordinary little maid.
He wanted to protect the young master; he didn't want anything to happen to him.
Cheng Feng nodded earnestly: "I'm afraid, but I want to protect the young master."
Butler Liu breathed a sigh of relief: "Don't be afraid. When the young master goes out, he'll have twelve bodyguards with him. The risk isn't that great. Those people haven't been caught yet; just stay alert."
Cheng Feng nodded.
Butler Liu added another instruction: "The young master's arm is injured. Be extremely careful when you wait on him."
"During this period, attend your classes as usual, but you must return to the villa at night to stand guard. If the young master asks you to accompany him when going out, take this with you."
As he spoke, Butler Liu handed over a handgun.
Cheng Feng's eyes widened instantly—it was a real gun!
When he practiced martial arts before, he had trained with replica guns. He had wondered back then why practicing martial arts required handling guns. Now he understood—it was just in case.
Afterwards, Butler Liu went over a few more details and then hurriedly left.
He was in charge of everything in the Shang family and had to rush back to the main estate. This trip was to check on the injured Gu Ming'en and the young master, and to arrange bodyguards and daily matters.
Cheng Feng wheeled his suitcase into the villa but didn't see Shang Xu.
A maid nearby told him the young master was working in the study on the second floor.
Cheng Feng first dragged his luggage to the room on the right side of the first floor. After getting settled, he heard footsteps in the living room—the young master was coming downstairs.
The moment he saw Shang Xu, Cheng Feng couldn't help but feel a flutter of excitement in his heart.
In the evening, Cheng Feng helped Shang Xu with dinner and then cleared the dining table. Around 11:30, Shang Xu asked him to prepare bathwater.
As Shang Xu entered the bathroom, Cheng Feng immediately followed him in.
Just as Shang Xu was about to speak, Cheng Feng blurted out:
"Young master, let me help you bathe."
Shang Xu looked at his injured right hand and sighed: "Alright."
Cheng Feng's gaze fell on Shang Xu's heavily bandaged arm. He stepped forward to help him take off his clothes.
He was slightly taller than Shang Xu. Looking down, he could see Shang Xu's thick, long eyelashes and straight nose bridge. Just as he was staring intently, Shang Xu suddenly looked up, his gaze directly meeting Cheng Feng's eyes.
Cheng Feng's heart skipped a beat, and his Adam's apple involuntarily bobbed.
"Young master, please raise your arm."
Shang Xu expressionlessly raised his arm. But the moment his upper garment was removed, he inexplicably felt Cheng Feng's gaze change. That look was scorchingly intense, as if it wanted to devour him whole.
He suddenly felt somewhat uncomfortable and even a bit embarrassed. Having lived this long, it was the first time being assisted with bathing made him feel so uneasy.
Cheng Feng's gaze was too straightforward, carrying an undisguised sense of possessiveness.
Cheng Feng was completely unaware of how inappropriate his gaze was; he was just taking a few extra looks at Shang Xu's body.
He bent slightly, reaching to undo Shang Xu's pants, but his wrist was suddenly grasped by Shang Xu.
"Cheng Feng, wait a moment."
Cheng Feng looked up, his eyes full of confusion: "Young master, what's wrong?"
Shang Xu pursed his lips, the tips of his ears slightly reddening:
"You go out. I'll wash myself."
Cheng Feng frowned, staring at his injured arm: "Young master, it's inconvenient with one hand, and your leg isn't steady either. What if you bump the wound? Let me help you."
Shang Xu was firm: "No need. I can manage myself."
Cheng Feng quickly held his arm, a hint of panic in his tone, thinking he had done something wrong to upset him: "Young master, did I do something wrong? Did I upset you?"
Seeing the panic in Cheng Feng's eyes, like a puppy begging for forgiveness, Shang Xu remained silent for a few seconds. Ultimately, his heart softened, and he relented:
"Then... then you can stay."
Cheng Feng's heart relaxed, and he secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Thankfully, he hadn't angered the young master.
He helped Shang Xu take off his pants. When his gaze swept over places it shouldn't, his ears instantly turned bright red. He quickly picked up the bath sponge, applied shower gel, and began gently rubbing it in circles on Shang Xu's body.
Cheng Feng's hand rested on Shang Xu's waist, slowly moving downward, his movements meticulous.
Shang Xu's body trembled violently. He hurriedly grabbed Cheng Feng's wrist, his voice even changing slightly: "Cheng Feng, not there. I'll do it myself."
Cheng Feng's face flushed crimson, almost dripping blood. He looked up and met Shang Xu's slightly embarrassed expression. The steam in the bathroom swirled, making his head feel dizzy.
He swallowed hard, leaned in closer, and said in a low voice: "Young master, it's difficult with one hand. Let me do it."
Shang Xu's face reddened, his tone turning colder and sterner,
"You go out. I'll do it myself!"
Cheng Feng saw that he was genuinely displeased and didn’t dare push it. He obediently turned and walked out of the bathroom, waiting right outside the door in case Shang Xu needed anything. But half an hour passed, and there was still no sound from inside.
Finally, Cheng Feng raised his hand and knocked.
“Young Master, are you done?”
Shang Xu’s strained voice came from inside.
“You… come in and help me get dressed.”
Cheng Feng pushed the door open to find Shang Xu wearing only pants, his shirt half on, his injured right arm unable to get into the sleeve.
He hurried over and helped Shang Xu pull the shirt on.
It was so quiet they could hear each other’s soft breaths. Neither spoke.
Cheng Feng helped Shang Xu lie down on the bed before returning to the bathroom to clean up the water all over the floor.
He went downstairs to his own room and took a shower. The warm water streamed over him, but it did nothing to calm the thoughts churning in his mind.
He looked at the prominent veins on his arms in the mirror—these hands had just touched the young master’s entire body, every inch of it.
Cheng Feng shook his head. Cheng Feng, don’t get any foolish ideas. You and the young master are simply not from the same world.
