Chapter 47 Heaven’s Favorite, Which Window Did He Close?
by 林西成仙入定Chapter 47: The Prodigy, What's the Catch?
The entire morning, without Cheng Feng needing to remind him, Shang Shaohao didn't oversleep.
However, he wasn't listening at all; he just stared blankly out the window, his mind elsewhere.
During morning class, Zhang Yuantao noticed Shang Shaohao limping. He turned around and leaned in, eyeing him suspiciously:
"What happened to you? Why are you limping? Did you get in a fight? If you're fighting, you should've called me! I'd back you up!"
Shang Shaohao gave him a sidelong glance and coolly shot back: "Would you dare hit my brother?"
Zhang Yuantao's mind immediately conjured up a face as cold as ice, making the hairs on his neck stand up.
Shang Shaohao's older brother had an intimidating, overwhelming presence. Zhang Yuantao didn't even dare make eye contact, let alone think about laying a hand on Shang Xu. Moreover, he'd heard that Shang Xu used to be mixed up with gangs and was an insanely good fighter, practically a legendary figure.
Cheng Feng was just as diligent as ever, whether in class or during breaks.
During lessons, he focused on taking notes; as soon as class ended, he buried himself in his work. Apart from going to the restroom and eating, he hardly rested.
Today, there was only one academic class held in the classroom; the following periods were dance, physical education, and piano lessons.
If not for that, given Cheng Feng's nature, he'd probably have sat from morning until noon dismissal.
Cheng Feng was still lowering his head to work on problems when Zhang Yuantao, holding a basketball, patted his desk:
"Hey, let's go. Time for P.E. downstairs. Still studying? Are you really that studious?"
Cheng Feng looked up, closed his book, and tapped on Shang Shaohao's desk, glancing at the boy who had slumped over again:
"Young Master, it's time for P.E."
Shang Shaohao glanced at him, yawned, and slowly stood up, heading downstairs with Zhang Yuantao.
Cheng Feng followed them.
As they walked down the corridor, two girls suddenly ran up to Cheng Feng, leaning in close and whispering:
"Cheng Feng, you're so diligent, studying even during break. Your grades must be really good, right?"
Cheng Feng scratched his head, somewhat embarrassed:
"My grades aren't that great. I can't keep up with a lot of it; some things I don't really understand."
Xia Xiao immediately said, "What parts don't you understand? I took notes; I can lend them to you. I've added annotations and explanations, so they should be easier to follow."
Cheng Feng's eyes lit up: "Really? Thank you. Then... what would you like to eat? My treat."
Xia Xiao was amused by his delighted expression, the corners of her mouth lifting involuntarily:
"It's nothing, really. Just a notebook."
Cheng Feng still felt a bit uneasy. Passing by the school store, he specifically called them in and bought two bottles of drinks for them.
He always felt that if someone helped him for no reason and he didn't show any appreciation, then if they ever really needed his help in the future, he'd find it hard to refuse. This way, by returning the favor, he wouldn't owe them anything.
The gymnasium was ridiculously huge, roughly ten times the size of his previous school.
Inside, there wasn't just a basketball court, but also badminton courts, a soccer field, dance practice rooms, and cheerleading rehearsal areas—every sport you could think of.
Cheng Feng followed the group to where the class was assembling and stood at the very back of the line.
He was among the taller boys in the class. There were two who were over six feet tall, and he was only slightly shorter than them.
After the teacher finished taking attendance, everyone was told to run two laps around the gymnasium first.
After finishing the run, many were out of breath, but Cheng Feng's face wasn't flushed, and he wasn't gasping for air.
The work he used to do was much more exhausting than this, and the distances he ran were far longer. For him, this was a piece of cake.
Warm-up done.
The teacher announced free play, telling everyone to play whatever they wanted, as long as they returned to gather before the end of the third period.
Cheng Feng thought he might as well study a bit more. He pulled out a small English booklet from his bag, planning to memorize vocabulary.
He had just sat down on the steps nearby when Zhang Yuantao ran over holding a basketball, dribbling it with loud *thump-thump-thumps* and shouting at him:
"Hey! Cheng Feng, come down and play basketball!"
Cheng Feng was taken aback. His village didn't have a basketball court at all. If he hadn't come to the city, as a former country bumpkin, he probably would have only seen a basketball in textbooks, never in real life, let alone played it.
He honestly shook his head: "I don't know how."
Shang Shaohao gave him a sidelong look: "Doesn't matter if you don't know how, get down here. I can't run. You join their team and play for me."
Cheng Feng blinked, looking at the five boys beside Zhang Yuantao.
They were all tall and well-built, about his height.
He recognized these five; they were from his class.
The six boys on the opposing team were from another class; he didn't know any of them.
He looked at those six boys. They all seemed exceptionally smart to him, with a demeanor completely different from the other students, like straight-A students.
One boy in particular stood out.
He wore a blue basketball jersey, had a slender build, handsome, sharp features, and was holding a basketball. He tilted his head, looking over in their direction, probably sizing him up.
Cheng Feng stuffed the English booklet into his pocket, quickly hopped down from the steps, and walked over to them.
Zhang Yuantao said, "Shao Hao said his leg is injured and he can't play. You come be our substitute. You don't have to do much; just get in the way of the other team's passes on the court, got it?"
Cheng Feng honestly shook his head: "I've never played basketball before. I don't know how."
The whole group was stunned: "!?"
In their eyes, knowing how to play basketball was practically a basic skill for guys.
And now there was actually a guy who didn't know how to play basketball?
Shang Shaohao clicked his tongue in annoyance and explained,
"It's simple. It's just passing the ball and then shooting. You don't have to shoot; just intercept passes. If you don't know how to do that, then just stand there like a statue and disrupt the other team."
Cheng Feng pursed his lips and nodded seriously:
"Okay."
Zhang Yuantao patted his shoulder:
"Cheng Feng, we made a twenty million bet with them. If we win, we split it equally; if we lose..."
Cheng Feng was stunned, his eyes wide as he waved his hands repeatedly. "No, no, no, I don't gamble. Kids aren't supposed to gamble."
Zhang Yuantao said, "What's the rush? I wasn't finished. If we lose, you don't have to pay—Shang Shaohao will cover it. You just need to be an extra body, got it?"
Cheng Feng finally relaxed. "Oh, okay."
Before the game started, the two teams huddled up to go over the rules.
Cheng Feng also finally found out who the boys on the other team were—they were from the honors class next door.
The best-looking boy was named Li Anmo. Wearing a blue basketball jersey, he was one of the top students in the honors class and, like Shang Shaohao, was a school heartthrob.
He was also a young master from a branch family under the Shang Family, with an illustrious background and considerable influence.
Cheng Feng was a little taken aback. So there really were people for whom "all the windows had been opened" by heaven.
Good looks, top grades, wealth, and power—with so many advantages, what flaw could he possibly have?
Wait, wasn't the eldest Shang young master even more impressive?
Not only was he handsome, but he was also said to have been admitted to the best university in the country. At a young age, he had developed a gaming software, started his own company, and it was really taking off.
The eldest Shang young master was the true chosen one, heaven's favorite, wasn't he?
At that thought, Cheng Feng lowered his gaze.
It seemed he himself had never had a single window opened by heaven.
He wasn't deliberately putting himself down, but he genuinely felt dull and unremarkable—no outstanding family background, no dazzling academic achievements, and no standout talents.
However, what Cheng Feng didn't know was that his looks were actually a huge hit with the girls.
Not only did girls like him, but boys also got jealous when they saw him.
His features were delicate yet not effeminate, flawless from every angle. His skin was fair and smooth, and though his appearance carried a somewhat mischievous charm, his vibe was as clean as a blank sheet of paper, making people want to get closer.
Otherwise, so many girls wouldn't have taken the initiative to approach him. Even someone like Zhang Yuantao, who wasn't that into looks, was willing to chat with him more, and Shang Shaohao, who usually couldn't be bothered with others, was willing to glance at him a few extra times. This alone showed that Cheng Feng's appearance truly aligned with mainstream aesthetics.
A significant reason why he received so many opportunities and care was simply because he was so pleasing to look at.
Good-looking people are always treated more gently—this is an undeniable reality.
