Chapter 17 What Did I Teach You?
byChapter 17: What Did I Teach You
Shen Qingci was seated on the office sofa, his cane leaning against it, as he flipped through a financial magazine.
He sat with an air of ease, as if he were sitting in his own living room.
All who entered to report couldn't help but let their eyes drift toward him.
Word that Shen Qingci had stormed into the company's conference room, hadn't been thrown out, and had even been invited into Lu Lin's office had spread, causing an uproar in every department.
Many were discussing the relationship between Shen Qingci and Lu Lin.
They were curious and wanted to look longer, but intimidated by Lu Lin, they only dared a glance.
Some senior executives promoted by Lu Lin, however, thought Shen Qingci looked familiar.
For years, a photo had sat on Lu Lin's desk.
In the photo, a man in a white shirt, his face slightly turned, gazed calmly at the camera.
For ten years, through office moves, renovations, and replaced furniture, this photo had always occupied the place of pride.
And now, the person from that photo sat on the sofa, flipping through a magazine, occasionally lifting his eyes to where Lu Lin was working.
His gaze was calm, as if watching his own child doing homework.
Shen Qingci paid no mind to these probing looks.
He focused on the magazine, occasionally observing Lu Lin at work.
When handling business, Lu Lin spoke little, every word was to the point, his decisions decisive and accurate, without a trace of hesitation.
One project manager reported a mistake that had caused a three-million-yuan loss.
After listening, Lu Lin only said, "Submit your resignation yourself, or I'll have HR issue a dismissal notice. Choose one."
His voice was calm, but it scared the project manager so much that his legs went weak on the spot.
Shen Qingci frowned but said nothing.
Lu Lin's way of handling things was similar to his own, yet not entirely the same.
Lu Lin was calm and decisive, but too extreme, too cold-blooded, too ruthless.
Three PM.
The office door was suddenly thrown open violently.
"Lu Lin! Get the hell out here, you bastard!"
A middle-aged man in a floral shirt, with a beer belly, burst in cursing. Zhou Jin tried to block him but got punched in the face:
"Scram! How dare a dog like you block me!"
Zhou Jin staggered back from the blow, blood seeping from the corner of his mouth.
The man spat, the glob landing squarely on the polished marble floor in the center of the office.
"Ptui!"
Shen Qingci frowned.
He stared at the soiled spot, his gaze icy enough to kill.
The man pushed Zhou Jin aside and strode toward the desk.
The financial director, who had been reporting, turned pale. After a look from Zhou Jin, he scooped up his files and beat a hasty retreat.
Shen Qingci's frown deepened.
He looked at the arrogant, domineering man, then at Lu Lin, who was still head-down, dealing with paperwork.
Lu Lin didn't even look up, as if he hadn't heard the commotion at all.
Was he just used to this? Or had he become numb?
Was Lu Lin often bullied? Otherwise, why could any random person just walk into his office?
A complicated, indescribable feeling churned in Shen Qingci's chest.
Along with anger, there was a strange, aching pity.
This was the child he had raised for eight years, who had never been wronged in all those years. How dare the Lu family do this?
"Lu Lin, do you fucking want to die?"
The man slammed a fist on the desk, making the pens rattle.
Lu Lin still didn't look up, his fingers typing on the keyboard as he continued working.
The man flew into a rage. He reached out abruptly and swept the laptop off the desk, sending it crashing to the floor.
Bang—
The screen shattered, components scattering everywhere.
"I'm talking to you! Are you deaf?!"
Lu Lin finally stopped typing.
But he still didn't look up, merely reaching for the pen beside him, preparing to continue reviewing the documents.
Furious, the man snatched the pen and threw it down, then tore the contract in front of Lu Lin to shreds, flinging the pieces into his face:
"Sign! I'll make you sign!"
Shreds of paper fell like snow, a few clinging to Lu Lin's hair.
Lu Lin sat there, motionless.
His face showed no expression, and there was no emotion in his eyes.
Like a lifeless statue.
Shen Qingci stood up.
His cane tapped the floor with a soft "tap."
He walked to the desk, not even glancing at the arrogant man, and directly pressed the intercom button on the desk:
"All Security Captains, get to the CEO's office, now."
He pressed another button:
"Get the bodyguards from outside in here."
His voice was calm, carrying a tone that brooked no argument.
That's when the man finally noticed Shen Qingci.
He looked Shen Qingci up and down, his eyes lighting up upon seeing his face, but when he noticed the cane in Shen Qingci's right hand, his face twisted in undisguised contempt.
"Well, who the hell is this? A cripple? But that face..."
Before he could finish, a fist smashed into his face.
Lu Lin punched the man squarely in the face, sending him staggering backward, blood instantly gushing from his nose.
Before the man could react, Lu Lin had already grabbed the crystal ashtray from the desk and brought it down hard on his head.
A dull thud.
Blood poured from the man's forehead.
Lu Lin went berserk, raining punches and kicks on the man who had fallen to the floor, every hit meant to kill.
The man was held down on the ground, utterly defenseless, only able to let out agonized howls.
The office descended into chaos.
Zhou Jin wanted to step forward to intervene, but couldn't find an opening.
The CFO, who hadn't left yet, hid outside the door, his face deathly pale.
When the bodyguards rushed in, this is what they saw.
Lu Lin was straddling the man, his fists falling like rain. The man was already covered in blood, barely breathing.
The bodyguards froze, unsure what to do, standing rooted to the spot.
This one-sided beating lasted nearly ten minutes.
Zhou Jin looked at the man who was taking in less air than he was letting out, then glanced worriedly at Shen Qingci, whose expression remained calm.
"Pull him off."
A cold voice finally spoke.
Shen Qingci stood to the side, his face a blank mask.
The bodyguards hesitated for a few seconds, but meeting Shen Qingci's calm yet intensely oppressive gaze, they quickly stepped forward and pulled Lu Lin off the man.
Even as he was being pulled away, Lu Lin struggled, his eyes fixed fiercely on the man on the floor like a raging beast.
"Let me go!" he roared. "He dared to insult—"
"Enough."
Shen Qingci's icy voice cut through. He raised his cane, stepping in front of Lu Lin.
After Lu Lin had completely calmed down, he rapped Lu Lin's leg with his cane.
Lu Lin's body stiffened instantly.
"Where is your brain?" Shen Qingci looked at him, his tone stern. "Did I teach you to act like this?"
Zhou Jin adjusted his glasses, thinking to himself: *Although you didn't teach him this, you tacitly allowed President Lu to beat the man, and it went on for nearly ten minutes.*
Lu Lin clenched his fists, his eyes bloodshot. "He said things about you! He said you were—"
"If he says one thing about me, do I lose a piece of flesh?"
Shen Qingci interrupted him, tapping his cane once more.
Lu Lin pressed his lips together, silent, but the fire in his eyes hadn't died down.
Shen Qingci's cane tapped the floor with a solid *thump*.
"Look at me, Lu Lin."
His voice wasn't loud, but each word struck Lu Lin's heart like a nail:
"How did I teach you?"
