Chapter 76 How Many Lives Does He Have
by 音符离了五线谱Chapter 76: How Many Lives Does He Have
Lin Wei's mind went completely blank.
She instinctively swallowed.
Was she even supposed to be hearing this?
If she left now, would it still be too late? Would she get silenced?
Shen Qingci's fingers tapped lightly on the desk, his tone still icy but with a calm, strategic detachment:
"Lu Lin is too confident in his actions, thinking everything he does is foolproof. I don't know how he's made it these ten years, but if this is all he's got, I think kneeling for three days and nights wouldn't be too harsh."
That was a lot to take in.
Lin Wei's brain was racing, piecing together the gist of it from what he said: drugging, kissing, and... kneeling?
Combining these sentences, she was certain that something huge had gone down between these two again.
She was starting to regret following Boss Shen into the office.
There's a saying: The more you know, the sooner you die...
Lin Wei looked up, feeling hopeless, meeting Shen Qingci's still calm, unruffled eyes.
Her strong professional instincts quickly steadied her nerves.
She took a deep breath, and her face swiftly shifted back to that businesslike, professional expression, as if they weren't talking about her boss's personal life but a serious work project:
"Boss Shen, what's on your mind?"
On his mind?
Shen Qingci's gaze unconsciously drifted to the photo on the desk.
A moment later, he looked away, turning back to Lin Wei, and posed his question in a flat tone:
"Why did Lu Lin drug me? I need a logical explanation."
Lin Wei's mind was working at lightning speed.
She wanted to say, "I don't know," but she forced herself to think, tentatively offering:
"Boss Shen... I think... he probably wanted to... kiss you, but was scared you'd be awake, so..."
Shen Qingci frowned.
A faint trace of confusion and subtle disapproval appeared on his cold, ethereal face:
"What kind of issue is that? Is he gonna drug everyone he wants to kiss from now on?"
Lin Wei opened her mouth, then shut it again.
She felt... her boss had totally missed the point.
But she'd gotten used to these off-kilter emotional discussions with Shen Qingci over the past few days.
She patiently steered him, trying to get to the heart of the issue:
"Boss Shen, what part bothers you?"
Shen Qingci's fingers tapped lightly on the desk.
He lowered his eyes, as if seriously thinking it over.
After a moment, he looked up and replied in a cool tone:
"He shouldn't use such sloppy methods on me. Even if he had to, he should make sure the other person actually drank the drugged stuff before acting. His behavior is way too stupid for someone I taught."
He paused, then added:
"And he shouldn't be drugging me just to kiss me."
Lin Wei: "?????"
She was frozen for a few seconds.
That sentence... didn't sit right with her.
Was he complaining that Lu Lin's methods were sloppy, not clever enough, not executed perfectly?
Shouldn't the real issue be that Lu Lin kissed him at all?
And using such shady means like drugging?
From what she knew of Shen Qingci, if it were anyone else, even an accidental touch would make the temperature around him drop to ice cold, and his eyes would show undisguised, murderous chill.
But with Lu Lin, Shen Qingci was focused on... his lack of precision and finesse.
Lin Wei went quiet.
Before this, she'd always thought there was a galaxy between Lu Lin and winning Shen Qingci's heart.
After all, Shen Qingci seemed born without that emotional chord; making him fall in love was harder than reaching the sky.
But now...
Forget a galaxy—there wasn't even a river between these two.
What was missing was probably just Boss Shen's heart, which still didn't get what love was.
Loving without realizing it?
A complicated, almost absurd feeling welled up in Lin Wei's chest.
She was quiet for a moment, then suddenly shifted gears and asked:
"Boss Shen, maybe... Boss Lu just wants a title?"
The question came out of nowhere, but she asked it seriously.
Shen Qingci looked up, his clear, untainted, cold eyes fixed on her.
Lin Wei met those eyes and sighed inwardly.
Those eyes were clear, cold, and distant, making it impossible to imagine what it'd be like if their owner ever fell in love.
"What title?" he asked.
Lin Wei chose her words carefully, speaking slowly:
"An identity that lets you stand openly at your side."
Shen Qingci frowned, his tone still cold and detached:
"He can do that now, too."
"But that's different," Lin Wei said softly.
"What does that have to do with Lu Lin drugging and kissing me?" Shen Qingci shot back.
Lin Wei went silent.
It seemed... there wasn't any direct connection.
She changed her approach, trying to pinpoint the real issue:
"If what bothers you is that President Lu drugged and kissed you... then I might have to ask a blunt question: Is it the drugging itself that bothers you, or the kissing? Or... both?"
Shen Qingci pursed his lips, then parted them slightly. His clear, cold voice enunciated two words distinctly:
"Drugging."
Lin Wei thought, *Just as I suspected*.
She took a deep breath and decided to address it more directly, helping her boss, who was practically a blank slate when it came to emotions, sort things out:
"President Shen, if we're going to hold someone accountable for the drugging, President Lu's actions are definitely a major issue, no argument there."
She paused, her tone turning sly:
"But let's say, hypothetically, if the person who drugged and kissed you was Wang Chengshun, or some random stranger... President Shen, would you still only be bothered by the drugging?"
The moment the words left her mouth, Lin Wei clearly felt the temperature in the office drop to freezing.
Shen Qingci's demeanor turned icy, and his cold, exquisite face seemed covered in a thin layer of frost.
He parted his lips, each word dripping with icy, murderous intent:
"Touch me?"
He paused, his voice low, every syllable wrapped in frost:
"How many lives does he think he has?"
Lin Wei looked at this man, carved from ice and snow, untouched by the world, and caught the fleeting, disdainful coldness in his eyes.
She suddenly understood.
What Shen Qingci cared about was never the kiss itself.
What he cared about was Lu Lin's approach, which he saw as almost stupidly clumsy.
And why that person didn't use an open, legitimate way to get close to him.
