    Chapter 35: Lin Wei

Once work was over, Shen Qingci didn't go straight home.

He had his driver follow Lin Wei's car.

Lin Wei was a steady driver, but today she didn't head towards her usual neighborhood. Instead, she turned into another upscale gated community.

The driver looked at the navigation and hesitated.

"Sir, this community isn't in the system. We can't get in."

Shen Qingci watched Lin Wei's car drive through the main gate. His fingers tapped lightly on his cane.

Then he heard a voice beside him.

    "Go in."

    It was Lu Lin.

He had gotten into the car at some point and was now sitting next to Shen Qingci, propping his chin on his hand with an "I knew it" expression.

The driver was taken aback and looked at Shen Qingci.

    Shen Qingci nodded.

Only then did the driver proceed towards the community entrance.

At the gate, a security guard stopped them.

Lu Lin rolled down the window. The moment the guard saw him, he immediately stood at attention. "Mr. Lu!"

"Open the gate," Lu Lin said.

    "Yes, sir!"

The barrier lifted, and the car smoothly entered the community.

Lu Lin rolled the window up and turned to look at Shen Qingci, a hint of smugness on his face.

"I built this community. One entire building here is mine."

He was so obviously fishing for a compliment.

Shen Qingci looked at his bragging face, silently averted his gaze, and ignored him.

But inwardly, he had to admit that Lu Lin indeed had the capital to show off like this.

Twenty-six years old, a net worth in the hundreds of billions, with countless properties under his name.

The car followed Lin Wei's vehicle, maintaining a discreet distance.

Lu Lin leaned closer and asked in a low voice,

"Brother, what's wrong with Secretary Lin?"

Shen Qingci watched the white BMW slowly coming to a stop ahead and replied calmly,

"She has injuries on her wrist. I suspect she's being hit at home."

Lu Lin's brow furrowed. "Domestic violence?"

    "Possibly," Shen Qingci said.

The car stopped not far from Lin Wei's building.

Shen Qingci didn't get out immediately. He just sat in the car, watching Lin Wei enter the building entrance.

    He was thinking.

Thinking about how to handle this matter.

If it were anyone else, he definitely wouldn't get involved. After all, he wasn't a saint and didn't like meddling in other people's business.

But Lin Wei was different. She had been with him for so long and, without hesitation, continued to follow him after his return.

    Her affairs, he couldn't ignore.

Shen Qingci looked at the closed building entrance. In his mind, he saw Lin Wei's swollen eyes and the glaring red marks on her wrist.

Lin Wei's state today was like a lamp that had been extinguished.

Shen Qingci's finger tapped lightly on his cane once.

Then he pushed the car door open and got out, leaning on his cane.

"Brother?" Lu Lin also got out of the car. "What are you going to do?"

Shen Qingci didn't answer. He just looked up at the building and said,

    "Wait for me here."

With that, he walked towards the building entrance, leaning on his cane.

Lu Lin watched his back and, without the slightest hesitation, immediately followed him.

Wait? Impossible. He was going along.

Shen Qingci entered the elevator and looked at the rows of buttons, falling into thought.

He didn't know which floor or which unit Lin Wei was in.

Lu Lin pressed the button for the 12th floor. Shen Qingci glanced at him but said nothing.

The elevator ascended and stopped at the 12th floor.

Lu Lin stepped out first, followed the door numbers to 1203, and then stood to the side. He looked like a puppy who had found a treasure for its master and was seeking praise.

Shen Qingci walked to the door and directly raised his hand to knock.

A man's voice came from inside. "Who is it?"

"A colleague of Lin Wei's," Shen Qingci said.

    The door opened.

A man in loungewear, wearing glasses, looking quite refined and gentle, stood at the door.

He was about thirty-five years old, with an ordinary appearance but neatly groomed, like an office clerk.

"Who are you?" The man looked at Shen Qingci, confused.

Shen Qingci ignored him, his gaze going right past him to look inside.

In the living room, Lin Wei was sitting on the sofa, holding a little girl, about three or four, in her arms.

The little girl was asleep, tear tracks still on her face.

And on Lin Wei's face, there was the clear mark of a slap.

Red and swollen, with distinct finger marks, it was clear whoever hit her had put their full strength behind it.

Shen Qingci's eyes instantly turned cold.

He looked up at the man, his voice calm yet carrying a chill, oppressive weight.

"I am Shen Qing, Lin Wei's boss."

The man was stunned for a second, then he forced a smile. "Oh, it's Mr. Shen. Please, come in, come in..."

"No need." Shen Qingci cut him off. "I'm here to ask you something."

He paused, his gaze falling on the slap mark on Lin Wei's face.

    "Did you hit her?"

    The man's smile froze.

He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but Shen Qingci gave him no chance.

"And the bruises on her wrists," Shen Qingci continued, his voice growing colder, "did you do that too?"

    The man's face changed color.

He took a step back, his voice trembling slightly. "Th-this is our family matter..."

"Family matter?" Shen Qingci took a step forward, his cane tapping the floor with a crisp sound. "Perhaps it's your family matter. But Lin Wei is my secretary. The way you've hurt her is seriously affecting her work. Do you know how much money I make in a day?"

His voice wasn't loud, but every word felt like an ice pick, striking the man's heart.

The man was rendered speechless by his aura, just standing there, face pale.

Shen Qingci took two more steps forward, entering the room.

He glanced at the sleeping child in Lin Wei's arms, then turned to Lin Wei.

"Lin Wei, do you want a divorce?"

Lin Wei had been stunned from the moment Shen Qingci appeared. It wasn't until he asked her that she snapped back to reality.

Lin Wei stared at him blankly, the tears she'd been holding back finally spilling over, rolling down her cheeks.

She nodded, her voice hoarse. "I do!"

The man immediately shouted, "Divorce? Don't even think about it! The child stays with me, and you won't get a single cent!"

Shen Qingci turned his head slightly, looking at him coldly.

    "What did you say?"

The man felt a chill run down his spine under his gaze but still braced himself and said, "Sh-she gave all the family's money to an outsider! 500,000! That was my mother's life savings! A woman like her, I..."

"500,000," Shen Qingci interrupted him, "was the money she gave me to start my business. It was her capital investment in Qingye Group."

    The man was stunned.

"That money was her investment," Shen Qingci said, slowly and clearly. "Moreover, Lin Wei was already worth more than 500,000 ten years ago. You're saying she took your mother's money and gave it to an outsider?"

Shen Qingci let out a cold laugh, looking at the man as if he were a dead object.

"As for your mother's life savings... if I'm not mistaken, that should also be Lin Wei's, right? You're not very capable, living lavishly on Lin Wei's money. This apartment was also bought by Lin Wei, wasn't it?"

The man's face turned pale. He stared at Shen Qingci, wanting to argue.

Shen Qingci leaned on his cane with both hands, asking word by word, "So, who exactly is spending whose money?"

    The man was left speechless.

Shen Qingci no longer looked at him, turning back to Lin Wei.

"Do you want to take the child with you?"

Lin Wei nodded, holding her daughter tighter.

"Good," Shen Qingci said. "Then today, you take the child and leave this place."

    He glanced at the man.

"The divorce papers will be delivered by my lawyer tomorrow. If you cooperate, you'll get what's rightfully yours, not a cent less. If you don't cooperate..."

He paused, his voice turning even colder.

"I'll make you understand what a real family matter is."

The man was so frightened his legs went weak, unable to utter a single word.

Shen Qingci, leaning on his cane, turned and walked out the door.

Lin Wei, holding the child, followed behind him.

When they reached the elevator, Shen Qingci stopped and looked back at her.

"Stay at my place for a few days first. Move out once you find a suitable place."

    Lin Wei's tears fell again.

She nodded, choking out the words.

    "Thank you... Mr. Shen."

    The elevator doors opened.

Shen Qingci walked in, and Lin Wei, holding the child, followed behind.

Looking at his own calm face in the elevator mirror, Shen Qingci suddenly felt...

Meddling in other people's business... didn't seem so bad after all.

At the very least, it could make a lamp about to go out, light up again.
