    Chapter 61: Don't Act Rashly

    Lu Lin’s body trembled violently.

He bit his lip, his eyes reddening even more as he glared stubbornly at Shen Qingci, fighting back tears. But the moment he met the chilling coldness deep in Shen Qingci’s gaze,

his knees bent, and he sank to his knees on the cold, hard floor.

Shen Qingci lowered his gaze, looking down at where the man knelt before him.

His eyes were icy and stern, as if scrutinizing him.

“Have your people throw Wang Chengshun out,” he said calmly, each word clear and deliberate. “You wouldn’t want to dirty your car.”

Hearing this, Lu Lin, kneeling on the floor, felt a slight smile touch his lips in a way Shen Qingci couldn’t see.

    He knew it.

His brother never cared about Wang Chengshun’s life or death.

His brother was only concerned about whether he would get into trouble because of this, whether his car would be dirtied by such trash.

In his brother’s eyes, Wang Chengshun wasn’t even as important as one of his cars.

This realization instantly filled Lu Lin’s heart with a secret, immense joy and satisfaction.

He quickly suppressed the triumphant smile at the corner of his lips, replacing it with that deferential, obedient look, and replied in a muffled voice, “…I understand, brother.”

He took out his phone, unlocked it in front of Shen Qingci, opened a chat window, quickly typed a line of text, and sent it.

Then he turned the phone screen toward him and handed it to Shen Qingci.

Shen Qingci glanced at the chat history on the screen.

It confirmed the safe release of Wang Chengshun and his bodyguards.

Only then did the intimidating pressure around him lessen slightly.

He looked at Lu Lin, who was kneeling on the floor, now gazing up at him with a pitiful, “I know I was wrong” expression.

Thinking of Lu Lin’s ruthless and merciless methods, and then looking at his obedient, submissive demeanor in front of him, Shen Qingci felt a complex, indescribable emotion, something akin to frustration over someone’s failure to live up to expectations.

This brat, why couldn’t he learn… a more discreet, cleaner method?

By taking someone so openly, was he trying to give others evidence against him?

Just as he was about to speak and lecture him a bit more, someone knocked lightly on the office door.

Before he could respond, the door was pushed open.

Lin Wei walked in naturally, as usual, holding a stack of documents that needed signing.

Then, her footsteps and breathing halted simultaneously at the sight before her.

She never expected that Lu Lin, who struck terror into others outside, was now kneeling before Shen Qingci.

His lowered head turned slightly toward her at the sound of the door opening.

Those usually deep, obsessive eyes now bore traces of lingering redness and a hint of excitement at having his forbidden secret discovered by someone else.

Lin Wei felt her mind go blank with a buzzing sound.

She almost instinctively closed her eyes, then screamed internally: Why did I have to come in at this moment?! What am I seeing?! Is this something I should be witnessing?! This is even more dangerous than an R-rated scene!!!

After mentally preparing herself and reopening her eyes, she forced a professional smile that looked worse than crying and said in a dry voice, “Sorry to interrupt.”

Then, holding the stack of documents, she quickly turned around and practically fled the office, even considerately closing the door behind her.

Shen Qingci showed little reaction to Lin Wei’s intrusion and departure.

In his eyes, disciplining Lu Lin was no different than it had been ten years ago—it was just that Lu Lin was older now, and kneeling looked a bit ridiculous.

When he withdrew his gaze and refocused on the kneeling Lu Lin, however, he was slightly taken aback.

Lu Lin’s cheeks were faintly flushed, and his previously reddened eyes now sparkled with an indescribable excitement and satisfaction.

Shen Qingci frowned, raised his cane, and lightly tapped Lu Lin with it. His cool voice carried a hint of confusion and faint disdain.

“Are you happy about being seen being punished like this? You’re not a child anymore. Have you no shame?”

Instead of feeling ashamed about being watched, Lu Lin raised his face to look at Shen Qingci, his tone carrying a barely concealed, almost boastful pride.

    “They’re jealous of me.”

He paused, his eyes growing even brighter, and added, “Jealous that I can kneel before you, jealous that you discipline me.”

    Shen Qingci remained silent.

He fell silent, looking at Lu Lin, who was still kneeling there looking proud, momentarily at a loss for words.

He even began to wonder whether making Lu Lin kneel was a punishment for him or, in some twisted way, a perverse reward.

Shen Qingci was silent for a long moment, saying nothing more. He turned around, supported himself with his cane, and slowly walked to the nearby sofa to sit down.

Then, his cool voice broke the quiet of the office.

    “Get up.”

“Go make me a cup of coffee.”

“Yes, brother!” Lu Lin responded almost instantly, rising to his feet with such agility it was as if he hadn’t just been kneeling on the floor.

His face still bore a lingering blush as he walked briskly to the coffee corner and began grinding coffee beans for Shen Qingci with practiced ease.

Soon, the rich aroma of coffee filled the air, carrying a hint of mellow bitterness and dispelling the earlier awkwardness.

Shen Qingci watched Lu Lin’s busy figure in front of the coffee machine and lightly tapped the top of his cane with his slender fingers.

Then, he spoke softly, breaking the faint hum of the coffee machine:

    “Lu Lin.”

Lu Lin’s movements paused almost imperceptibly, but he didn’t turn around.

Shen Qingci continued, his voice calm and steady, yet carrying a warning:

“In the future, don’t act impulsively because of me.”

Lu Lin still didn’t turn around or respond. His expression darkened at Shen Qingci’s words, and he ground the coffee beans with even more force.

When Shen Qingci spoke again, his tone still flat, but like a stone thrown into a still lake, it sent a thousand ripples through Lu Lin's heart:

"I'm back now. From now on, think about the consequences before you do anything."

He paused, then added clearly and calmly:

"I don't want to have to come bail you out one day."

The words hit Lu Lin like a bolt of lightning.

He spun around so fast he almost spilled the coffee grounds in his hand.

He stared hard at Shen Qingci, who was sitting on the sofa. That stunningly beautiful face still held its usual cool composure, and those beautiful eyes held no extra emotion.

But his words made Lu Lin's heart pound wildly.

A wave of overwhelming joy and disbelief crashed over him, making his voice tremble with a barely noticeable caution.

"Brother, do you mean... you're not leaving again? You'll stay here for good?"

Shen Qingci lifted his eyes to look at him, not directly answering the question.

"Pretty much. Until you get better, meet someone you really love, get married, and settle down. By then, you might be the one leaving."

"I won't!" Lu Lin blurted out without thinking, his voice firm and laced with deep obsession.

Shen Qingci glanced at him, didn't comment on his outburst, and just reminded him: "The coffee."

Lu Lin snapped out of it and quickly made the coffee. A moment later, he poured it into a bone china cup and carefully placed it on the coffee table in front of Shen Qingci.

Shen Qingci picked up the cup and took a small sip, the rich, slightly bitter liquid sliding down his throat.

He looked up again at Lu Lin, who stood before him with a gaze still burning with stubborn intensity. He spoke calmly, in a tone like an elder giving advice:

    "I respect your choices."

"But Lu Lin, when it comes to relationships, you need to be focused and serious. Don't just get involved with people casually. Even a kiss should be taken seriously—think it through before you do anything."

He paused, his gaze steady as he held Lu Lin's eyes, and added clearly:

    "Understand?"

Lu Lin's face turned bright red.

Shen Qingci's words reminded him of that long, hour-plus session in the bathroom last night, of his own unspeakable fantasies and actions.

His eyes instantly darted away, unable to meet Shen Qingci's gaze, which seemed to see right through him.

He lowered his head, his voice so quiet it was almost inaudible, yet he answered with unusual obedience: "I understand, brother."

Shen Qingci nodded, said nothing more, and picked up his coffee cup again, his gaze drifting out the window, ending this seemingly ordinary chat.
