Chapter 131 Shut Up, You’re Annoying
by 音符离了五线谱Chapter 131: Shut Up, You're Too Noisy
The car went quiet, with only the faint hum of tires on the road.
Then, a familiar, clear and cold voice suddenly rang out, distinct in the quiet car.
"Only the head of the Shen family can stay at the main house."
Shen Qingci's tone was calm, his expression cold and detached, as if he were recounting a stranger's story.
Lu Lin's head shot up.
Shen Qingci still gazed out the window, his profile cold and flawless as jade, his voice flat, completely emotionless:
"Others have to leave when they come of age. That's the rule of the Shen family."
He paused, then continued:
"And as for me and Shen Suili, as direct blood of the main family line, the position of family head was destined to fall between the two of us."
"When I was six."
"The family named me the next head."
He paused again, his hand placed lightly on his knee, his fingertips tightening slightly:
"That same year, Shen Suili burst into my room—"
"He crushed my right leg."
Lu Lin's pupils contracted sharply.
His hand tightened almost imperceptibly.
His knuckles whitened from the strain, his nails digging into his palm.
The glint of tears in his eyes vanished instantly, replaced by blazing murderous rage and fury.
"The Shen family head can't have a disability."
"Maybe... he just wanted that position."
He said the last part very softly, like a sigh.
As if speaking to Lu Lin, or maybe to himself.
Outside, neon lights streaked by.
Shen Qingci looked down, his eyelashes casting a faint shadow beneath them.
Something so faint flickered in those cold eyes that even he himself hadn't noticed it.
That question had haunted him for years.
He'd never found an answer.
The family head position was just that.
If Shen Suili really wanted it, I wouldn't have fought him—I'd have handed it to him.
But why...
Why did it have to be done this way?
"I'll kill him!!"
Lu Lin's voice suddenly rang out, low and hoarse, filled with a murderous intent so thick it almost solidified.
His eyes were bloodshot, his gaze churning with a rage that could tear the world apart.
Shen Qingci withdrew his gaze and looked at him.
He looked at his face, twisted in anger, and at his reddened eyes, brimming with both murderous fury and pain.
Raising his hand, he gently placed it on top of Lu Lin's head.
Then he leaned back into the seat, closing his eyes.
His clear, cold voice echoed in the car, edged with exhaustion:
"Rub my leg."
Lu Lin was stunned.
He looked at Shen Qingci's face—so cold and unearthly—at his closed eyes, and at his slightly furrowed brow.
All the murderous intent and rage were instantly suppressed.
He took a deep breath, reining in the emotions in his eyes.
Then he reached out, gently placing his hand on Shen Qingci's leg.
---
The car drove into the villa and came to a smooth stop at the entrance of the main building.
The headlights went out, the engine's roar cut off, and the night settled in again.
Uncle Fu was the first to come up to greet them, a warm smile on his face: "Sir, you're back."
Shen Qingci nodded and got out using his cane.
Lu Lin followed behind him, but his gaze fell on Uncle Fu.
A flicker of scrutiny crossed his eyes.
Without a change in expression, he stepped forward, smoothly positioning himself between Uncle Fu and Shen Qingci.
Uncle Fu was taken aback.
He looked at Lu Lin, who was acting like a guard dog, and then at Shen Qingci, who was being led into the villa by his hand. He shook his head and sighed.
Mr. Lu, his jealousy really knows no bounds.
---
The hall was brightly lit.
A huge crystal chandelier hung from the dome, making the whole room bright as day.
The night outside the floor-to-ceiling windows was deepened by the contrast of the light, like a huge black curtain.
Lu Lin naturally guided Shen Qingci to the dining table, pulled out a chair, and motioned for him to sit down.
Shen Qingci pursed his lips, and did not move.
He stood in front of the dining table, eyes downcast, seeming lost in thought.
Lu Lin noticed something was off with him, blinked, and leaned in closer.
His voice was very soft, in a coaxing tone:
"Big brother, you'll feel unwell if you don't eat."
Shen Qingci lifted his eyes and glanced at him, meeting Lu Lin's expectant gaze. He spoke coldly, his voice cool:
"Just make something simple. I don't have much appetite."
Don't have much appetite?
Lu Lin responded, walked into the kitchen, tied his apron, and blamed Shen Suili for Shen Qingci's lack of appetite.
---
Soon, faint sounds came from the kitchen.
The sound of chopping vegetables, the sound of the burner being lit, oil sizzling in the pan.
Those sounds mingled together, especially clear in the quiet villa.
Shen Qingci sat at the dining table, holding a cup of coffee made by Uncle Fu.
He just held it, his gaze fixed on some empty space, lost in thought.
The night outside the window was deep, so deep it was like ink that cannot be dissolved.
His reflection was cast on the floor-to-ceiling window, slim and lonely, as though an invisible gap separated him from the world.
His brows were slightly furrowed, his eyes cool and clear.
Lu Lin walked out with the prepared meal and immediately saw him in that dazed state.
He stood there, watching for two seconds.
A darkness flickered in his eyes, vanishing in an instant.
He quickly walked over, bent down, and gently kissed the corner of Shen Qingci's mouth.
The movement was very light, like a dragonfly touching the water.
Shen Qingci's eyelashes fluttered slightly; he came back to his senses and looked up at him.
Lu Lin had already arranged the meal in front of him and then sat down beside him.
He rested his chin on his hand, staring at Shen Qingci without blinking, a smile on his lips, yet an indescribable obsessiveness and madness in his eyes:
"Big brother, what were you thinking about just now?"
Shen Qingci did not answer.
He picked up his chopsticks and took a couple of bites.
Only after swallowing the food in his mouth did he put down his chopsticks and look at Lu Lin.
In his cold eyes, there was a hint of appraisal:
"I was thinking about why Shen Suili constantly provokes you."
He paused, picked up a napkin, and gently wiped the corner of his mouth, his movements graceful and noble.
"His target doesn't seem to be me, but you."
Lu Lin was stunned.
Then, the corners of his mouth slowly curled into a smile.
A pathological satisfaction flashed in his eyes.
That satisfaction held a touch of smugness and madness.
So big brother was thinking about me.
He reached out, took Shen Qingci's hand, held those long fingers in his palm, and slowly toyed with them. He tilted his head, his voice very soft:
"I don't know. Don't worry about him."
He paused, leaned in closer, his eyes startlingly brilliant:
"Big brother, do you want to go upstairs? I want to kiss big brother."
Shen Qingci glanced at him.
Not saying a word.
But he rose using his walking stick and walked toward the stairs.
His back was thin and straight, his pace unhurried.
Lu Lin watched quietly, the smile on his lips widening.
He followed, falling into step beside Shen Qingci, muttering softly as though sharing a confidence:
"Big brother, from now on, don't trust anyone else. It's enough to trust only me."
"In this world, no one but me is genuine with you."
His voice was very light, as if he were talking to himself, but the earnestness and obsession in his tone made one's scalp tingle.
Shen Qingci did not respond.
He lifted his walking stick and lightly tapped his calf with it.
The force was neither hard nor soft, tinged with helplessness and indulgence.
He said coldly:
"Shut up. You're too loud."
Lu Lin immediately shut up.
But from time to time as they went upstairs, he let out a small whine, as if venting his dissatisfaction.
