    Chapter 95: CEO Shen's Joke

No sooner had the words left her mouth.

    "Bang!"

Zhou Jin kicked the door open.

The sound was so loud that everyone inside was stunned into silence.

Shen Qingci glanced at Zhou Jin but said nothing.

He leaned on his cane and strode inside.

Everyone in the office, upon seeing the person who entered, fixed their gazes on him.

His slightly long hair was tied up, loosely draped over one shoulder, making his face look even more coldly ethereal.

Dressed in a well-tailored dark coat, leaning on a black agarwood cane, he moved with ease, his demeanor noble and otherworldly, like a celestial being stepping out of a painting.

    Everyone held their breath instinctively.

The little girl, who had been cowering in a corner watching her mother and the teacher face off, lit up the second she saw Shen Qingci.

    It was the Immortal Brother!

Xiao Ya practically bolted out of the corner, arms outstretched, ready to launch herself at Shen Qingci.

Just as she was about to jump into his arms, a hand stopped her.

Lu Lin stood stone-faced between her and Shen Qingci, and casually shoved her toward Zhou Jin, who was standing nearby.

    Zhou Jin: "...?"

    Xiao Ya: "???"

    Lin Wei: "..."

Shen Qingci ignored the little distraction.

His gaze landed on the female teacher who had been running her mouth moments before. His expression was cold, his eyes indifferent, like she was nothing more than an insignificant object.

He spoke, his voice cold and utterly emotionless:

    "I think the teacher's right."

    Lin Wei was stunned.

Xiao Ya was also stunned, her eyes instantly welling up as she stared at Shen Qingci's profile in disbelief.

"Secretary Lin," Shen Qingci continued, his tone still calm, "you're being a little too sensitive. It was just a joke from the kid's dad."

Lin Wei looked at Shen Qingci's face, which was even colder and more composed than usual, and suddenly got a bad feeling.

    She knew Shen Qingci.

When he went along with what someone said, it meant...

Someone was about to be in deep trouble.

She quickly spoke up, trying to stop him: "CEO Shen, it's fine. I'll handle this myself."

Shen Qingci gave a low hum of acknowledgment.

His cane tapped lightly on the ground, then he turned and headed for the door.

He brushed past the black-suited bodyguards who were filing in.

He said softly, his tone indifferent:

"Since she likes jokes, let her really experience... the kind of jokes we play."

The bodyguards got the message and bowed respectfully.

Lin Wei watched the bodyguards drag away the screaming, struggling teacher, watching her once-arrogant face twist in terror. A flood of emotions washed over her.

She turned her attention to Xiao Ya.

Xiao Ya was still standing there, staring off in the direction Shen Qingci had gone, her eyes sparkling, her cheeks a little flushed.

"Mom," she whispered, "is the Immortal Brother coming back?"

Lin Wei looked down at her daughter's face, which was full of admiration, and felt a headache coming on.

    ---

Shen Qingci watched coldly as the bodyguards forcibly escorted the teacher out.

They pushed her onto a high platform at the edge of the rooftop.

The platform was just a small square, open on three sides. If the bodyguards let go, she'd fall off the building and be crushed to death.

The teacher was absolutely terrified; she opened her mouth to scream, but they stuffed a rag in it to shut her up.

All she could do was make muffled "mmm" sounds, tears and snot smeared all over her face as she shook her head desperately, but it was no use.

Lin Wei led Xiao Ya out of the office, and when she saw the scene, her instinct was to take her daughter back inside.

    "Lin Wei."

Shen Qingci's clear voice rang out, stopping her in her tracks:

    "Bring Xiao Ya over."

Lin Wei hesitated, then took Xiao Ya's hand and walked over to Shen Qingci.

    Xiao Ya's eyes lit up.

She let go of her mother's hand, ran over to Shen Qingci, looked up at him, and then followed his gaze to the disheveled teacher on the high platform.

Shen Qingci rested both hands on his cane, looking noble and composed.

He spoke calmly, his voice clear like the sound of broken jade:

"People cannot empathize with one another."

He lowered his head slightly, glancing at Xiao Ya beside him.

His beautiful, cold face was filled with contempt for humanity.

He stood there, his aura icy and frosty, like a lofty god who had descended to earth to look down on the mortal world.

He went on, his tone still flat:

"So, when someone questions the harm you've suffered,"

He paused, his gaze shifting back to the trembling figure on the high platform:

    "Let them feel it."

"Let's see if this joke..." He paused again, his voice as soft as a sigh, then continued, "is still funny when it happens to her."

    Xiao Ya nodded earnestly.

In her clear eyes, she saw both the pitiful figure on the high platform and the cold, otherworldly person beside her.

She didn't really get the big principles, but she knew that her Immortal Brother was teaching her.

Lin Wei stood off to the side, holding her forehead, looking a bit helpless.

She knew Shen Qingci was using his own way to try and teach Xiao Ya the harsh rules of this world.

But as she looked at her daughter's earnest nodding face, and then at the teacher who had fainted from fear on the high platform, she had mixed feelings.

She figured this method wasn't something ordinary people could ever learn.

Shen Qingci's gaze shifted from the high platform to Lu Lin, who was standing beside him.

His eyes were icy, his tone utterly cold:

"A teacher should be a role model, but this one doesn't deserve the title."

    He paused:

"Director Lu, what do you think we should do?"

Lu Lin blinked, testing the waters in a meek tone:

"How about... we push her off?"

    Shen Qingci: "..."

    Lin Wei, Zhou Jin: "..."

    He's doing this on purpose.

Shen Qingci pursed his lips, raised his cane and tapped it lightly but firmly against Lu Lin's calf.

He frowned, his thin lips parting to say two words:

    "Idiot."

Everyone let out a sigh of relief when they heard Shen Qingci scold Lu Lin.

Good, at least Shen still had some sense.

Then they heard Shen Qingci go on, his tone icy:

    "She should be made to—"

He paused, his gaze sweeping over the teacher who had fainted from fear on the high platform:

    "Wish she were dead."

    Everyone went silent.

But Lu Lin smirked, looking up at the unconscious figure on the platform, his tone full of undisguised approval:

    "Brother's right."

    Just then, hurried footsteps approached.

The school principal and a few administrators rushed over.

The principal was a man in his fifties, short and stocky, wearing an ill-fitting suit and panting heavily from running.

When he saw what was happening on the rooftop, he flew into a rage, his face bright red:

"What the hell are you doing!!!" he roared, his voice sharp and piercing.

"What are you doing to our teacher!!!"

Shen Qingci looked up, his gaze landing on the principal.

    Just one look.

    Then he quickly looked away.

Short, fat, with a face full of flabby flesh, and ugly to boot.

He closed his eyes, and when he opened them again, his gaze landed on Lu Lin's face.

    Yeah.

His own kid was way easier on the eyes.

Lu Lin noticed his gaze and immediately leaned closer, his face all obedient and flattering smiles, whispered in his ear:

    "What's wrong, Brother~"

His voice was soft and sweet, a total contrast to the Lu Lin who'd just said "push her off."

Shen Qingci expressionlessly raised his hand and pushed his face aside.

His thin lips parted to say one word:

    "Get lost."

Lu Lin didn't mind; instead, he leaned in again, drawing out his words in a spoiled tone:

    "No~ Brother~"

    Lin Wei was silent.

    So was Zhou Jin.

Xiao Ya stared blankly at the man almost plastered against Shen Qingci, watching him act spoiled and coquettish, then looked at Shen Qingci's still cold face. She suddenly whispered to Lin Wei beside her:

"Mommy, I want to be close to the Immortal Brother too... Can I marry him when I grow up?"

Lin Wei's face changed, and she instinctively went to cover her daughter's mouth.

    But it was too late.

Lu Lin's eyes snapped over in a flash.

Those eyes, which had just been full of pleading and wheedling, now turned deep and terrifying, churning with raw violence and crazy possessiveness.

His gaze landed on Xiao Ya like he wanted to eat her alive.

Xiao Ya was startled and immediately ducked behind Lin Wei, not daring to show her face again.

The principal, completely ignored, was shaking with rage.

He pointed at Shen Qingci, his voice trembling with anger:

"I've already called the police! You broke into the school, assaulted and intimidated the teachers—you're all gonna rot in jail!!!"

Shen Qingci lifted his eyes and glanced once more at that short, fat blob.

    Then, he looked away again.

He stomped on Lu Lin's foot.

Lu Lin winced but didn't move, just giving him a pitiful look.

Shen Qingci didn't look at him.

He just said, cool and calm as always:

    "Haul him out."
