Chapter 67 Lu’s Face-Changing
by 音符离了五线谱Chapter 67: Lu Corporation’s Sudden Shift
In the afternoon, as agreed, Lin Wei led Xiao Chen as Qingye’s representatives for the first project coordination meeting.
The car cruised steadily toward the iconic skyscraper that housed Lu Corporation’s headquarters.
Lin Wei sat in the back, looking down, double-checking the documents.
Xiao Chen seemed a bit excited, constantly adjusting his tie and checking his reflection in the car window.
"Sister Wei, I heard the rules inside Lu Corporation are very strict..." Xiao Chen tried to make conversation to ease his nerves.
Lin Wei didn’t look up, just gave a faint "Mm" in reply.
The car slowly pulled up at the Lu Corporation building.
Just as Lin Wei closed the folder and was about to get out, she casually glanced out the window—and froze.
Standing front and center at the grand entrance of Lu Corporation was a tall, striking figure.
Lu Lin wore a perfectly tailored black suit with subtle pinstripes, that accentuated his broad shoulders and long legs, making him look tall and straight.
He held a large bouquet of blooming irises in his arms, the petals still glistening with dew, catching the afternoon sunlight.
His hair was slicked back, revealing his smooth forehead and sharp, handsome features.
He tilted his head slightly, his gaze full of undisguised anticipation, looking toward the approaching car, a gentle, almost dazzling smile curling at the corners of his mouth.
He looked like a peacock fanning its tail, waiting for his beloved to come and admire him.
Lin Wei’s mouth twitched involuntarily, a wave of absurdity and speechlessness washing over her.
She was curious—if President Shen had actually shown up and seen Lu Lin’s exaggerated welcome, what expression would that cold face of his have?
Probably still blank.
For some reason, seeing this, she didn’t want to get out of the car.
Facing Lu Lin in work mode, even if he were cold and ruthless, she had a game plan and was mentally prepared.
But facing this Lu Lin—totally lovesick and dressed to the nines—she had no clue how to handle him.
Before she could pull herself together, Xiao Chen had already opened the door and hopped out briskly.
Xiao Chen was clearly stunned that Lu Lin was personally waiting at the entrance, feeling a surge of excitement at being so valued.
He hurried forward, a professional smile plastered on his face, extending his hand and greeting him in a clear voice: "Hello, President Lu! I’m Chen Zhuo from Qingye, in charge of the preliminary coordination for this project. I didn’t expect you to come down to greet us in person. It’s really..."
Before he could finish, his voice died in his throat.
Because Lu Lin wasn’t even looking at him.
Lu Lin’s eyes, which had been full of expectant smiles, instantly went cold when he saw only Lin Wei and Xiao Chen getting out of the car. His smile vanished like the tide going out.
Disappointed, his face darkened immediately, and the gentle aura around him evaporated, replaced by a suffocating, oppressive vibe.
Lu Lin’s gaze swept coldly across Xiao Chen, lingering for just a second before he looked away.
He remembered this face—his brother’s newly promoted assistant, something like Chen.
He remembered the undisguised, fervent admiration in this guy’s eyes when he looked at his brother, and the covetousness that made his skin crawl.
Not seeing the person he wanted, but instead seeing someone he disliked first.
Lu Lin’s face completely sank, his eyes gloomy, his thin lips pressed into a straight line.
He didn’t take Xiao Chen’s outstretched hand, nor did he even spare him a glance.
The undisguised coldness and oppressive aura emanating from him made the few Lu Corporation executives who had followed him downstairs to greet the guests instinctively hold their breath and take a small step back, afraid of being caught in the crossfire.
Only Zhou Jin remained calm, as if long accustomed to his boss’s mood swings.
He stepped forward, standing slightly behind Lu Lin, and spoke in a steady voice, breaking the awkward, suffocating silence:
"President Lu, President Shen might have been delayed by some urgent business, so he couldn’t come in person. After all, this initial coordination is more about procedural communication, a stepping stone for the cooperation. President Shen likely trusted the project itself, so he sent Assistant Lin and Assistant Chen."
Mentioning Shen Qingci only made Lu Lin’s expression worse.
His brother didn’t come because of work?
Or was it something else?
Yesterday, he was punished to memorize the contract, and today he doesn’t come?
Doesn’t he want to see him?
Zhou Jin, as if not noticing his boss’s worsening mood, continued in his calm tone: "President Lu, since President Shen isn’t here, I can handle the coordination matters. How about..."
He paused deliberately, his gaze meaningfully falling on the delicate bouquet of irises in Lu Lin’s arms.
"Maybe you should go to Qingye first and deliver these flowers to President Shen? After all, fresh flowers are delicate; they won’t stay fresh for long."
This sentence hit exactly what Lu Lin cared about most at the moment: seeing his brother and giving him the flowers.
Lu Lin’s gloomy expression softened just a little.
He nodded, agreeing to Zhou Jin’s arrangement.
Then, holding the bouquet of irises, he walked straight past Xiao Chen, who was still frozen in place with his hand outstretched, his face alternating between red and white.
He also ignored Lin Wei, who was walking quickly toward him, and headed straight for the waiting car.
The driver had already smartly opened the door.
Lu Lin bent down and got into the driver’s seat, saying to the driver, "You stay."
The door closed, and the car sped away, leaving behind a low-pressure atmosphere and a group of people exchanging awkward glances.
Only when the car disappeared around the corner did Lin Wei walk over to Xiao Chen and gently nudge his arm, whispering, "Put your hand down."
Xiao Chen snapped back to reality, somewhat embarrassed, withdrawing his hand that had grown sore from being extended so long. His face burned, and his earlier excitement and enthusiasm had been replaced by humiliation and a hint of simmering anger.
He hadn’t expected that the seemingly easygoing President Lu at Qingye could be so arrogant and dismissive.
Zhou Jin adjusted his expression, putting on a flawless professional smile as he greeted Lin Wei:
"Assistant Lin, long time no see. President Lu had something come up, so I’ll be fully in charge of the coordination from here. Please, follow me."
His attitude was polite and thorough, a stark contrast to Lu Lin’s cold disregard, quickly pulling the awkward atmosphere back to normal.
Lin Wei nodded, also putting on a professional smile. "Thank you for the trouble, Special Assistant Zhou."
With that, she glanced at Xiao Chen, who was still spacing out, and gave him a look to follow.
Xiao Chen took a deep breath, trying to pull himself together, and followed behind Lin Wei and Zhou Jin into the Lu Group building.
Meanwhile, Lu Lin, who was driving, glanced at the iris flowers on the passenger seat and tapped his fingers lightly on the steering wheel.
He couldn't help but wonder: His brother... would he be happy to see him?
