Chapter 113: Talk Nicely? No Way

The black Maybach glided smoothly along the road leading to the Lu family's old mansion.

Shen Qingci sat in the backseat, his fingers lightly tapping on the top of his cane, tap, tap, tap.

Sunlight streamed through the car window and fell upon him, yet it could not warm his cold, unearthly face.

He thought of Lu Lin, still sound asleep when he left.

That kid cried his eyes out yesterday and kept him up until the middle of the night—who knew when he would wake up.

He pulled out his phone and sent a message to Uncle Fu:

"Shen Qingci: Uncle Fu, go upstairs and wake Lu Lin. He needs to head to the office."

Uncle Fu's reply came almost instantly:

    "Uncle Fu: Got it, sir."

Shen Qingci glanced at it, then put his phone away.

    The car drove on.

    ---

    the Lu family's old mansion.

The black Maybach came to a steady stop at the entrance of the main building.

A bodyguard stepped forward and opened the car door.

Shen Qingci slowly stepped out, leaning on his cane.

Sunlight fell on him, casting a long shadow behind him on the ground. He stood there, his slightly long black hair loose around his shoulders, exuding an aloofness that kept people at a distance.

At the entrance of the main building, the butler stood.

The moment he saw Shen Qingci, a flicker of surprise crossed his face.

Why was this man here? Why hadn't the guards at the gate reported his arrival before letting him in?

A bunch of incompetents—do they want to get fired?

Shen Qingci looked at him, his gaze lofty and indifferent, and said indifferently:

    "Where is Lu Changgeng?"

    The butler immediately became alert.

He bowed slightly, his manner respectful but his tone probing:

"Mr. Shen, isn't it... against protocol to come uninvited?"

    "Protocol?"

Shen Qingci's voice was as cold as frost, every word like a blade dipped in ice:

"You? You dare talk protocol with me?"

    The butler's body suddenly stiffened.

He didn't understand why the old master was so wary of this man.

But the fact that Shen Qingci had silently infiltrated the heavily guarded estate was indeed... kinda creepy.

Shen Qingci didn't give him another glance.

He leaned on his cane and walked toward the main building.

The butler instinctively reached out to stop him.

A faint sound of something whistling through the air.

A sharp sting pricked his neck, and in the next second, his body went limp and he collapsed to the floor.

The butler watched Shen Qingci pass by him, wanting to reach out and stop him, but his body was completely immobile, and he couldn't even make a sound.

All he could do was watch that cold, detached back, step by step, walking into the main building.

The hall was luxurious and spacious.

    ---

Shen Qingci walked to the seat of honor in the center and slowly sat down.

His posture relaxed, his expression cold, his eyes calm.

He surveyed his surroundings from above, like a deity gazing down on mere mortals.

In the corner, a few servants huddled, staring at him in fear.

Shen Qingci's fingers tapped gently on the top of his cane, tap, tap, tap.

Then, he parted his thin lips and said a single word:

    "Smash."

His men immediately swung into action.

They moved swiftly, with clear targets, focusing on the expensive antiques.

Blue-and-white porcelain vases shattered, rosewood screens toppled with a crash, priceless calligraphy scrolls and paintings were torn to shreds...

Soon, the luxurious hall was in a shambles.

Hearing the commotion, the Lu family members rushed in, each one furious.

A middle-aged man charged to the front, pointing at Shen Qingci on the main seat, and bellowed in rage:

"What the hell do you think you are, daring to stir up trouble in the Lu residence?!"

    Shen Qingci looked at him.

His cold gaze rested on the man's face for less than a second, then looked away.

As if looking at an insignificant object.

Enraged by the insult, the third master of the Lu family's face flushed red.

He pointed at Shen Qingci and then barked at the bodyguards behind him:

Drag him down here! I'm gonna beat him to death!

The men who had been smashing things stopped instantly.

They quickly gathered together, forming a barrier in front of the bodyguards.

The two sides confronted each other, tension mounting.

Shen Qingci sat in the main seat and said calmly:

    “Take them down.”

“Keep beating them until Lu Changgeng shows up.”

The moment the words fell, his men moved.

Third Master Lu didn't even see how they struck; he only saw his bodyguards drop one after another, like dominoes.

    He was stunned.

He looked at the men in black surrounding him in a circle, then through the gaps at the figure in the main seat, cool and distant like the moon, and immediately put on an ingratiating smile.

He rubbed his hands and chuckled nervously:

“Well... young sir, you're looking for my father, aren't you? That little bastard Lu Lin pissed him off yesterday and he hasn't gotten out of bed yet! How about I go wake him up for you, huh?”

    Shen Qingci looked at him.

Those eyes were cold as frost, without a trace of emotion.

    He parted his thin lips:

    “Bastard?”

Third Master Lu nodded eagerly, his face all sycophantic smiles:

    “Yes, yes, yes! Bastard!”

    Shen Qingci looked away.

    “Hit him.”

No sooner had the words left his mouth than Third Master Lu was kicked to the floor.

Then countless feet rained down on him from all directions, kicking him, making him wail in agony and thrash on the floor.

He had no clue what he'd said to piss them off.

Until another person walked in through the door.

The bodyguard at his side took one look at the scene and jumped into the fight without a word.

Third Master Lu took this opportunity to crawl out frantically from under the kicking feet.

Bruised and disheveled, he scrambled to his feet and lunged at the newcomer:

“Big brother! Big brother! This bastard hit me!”

Shen Qingci remained seated in the main chair, his face impassive.

He watched the scene and tilted his head a little.

He couldn't help thinking of a phrase.

    “Calabash brothers rescuing grandpa?”

Sending them in one by one?

    “Enough!”

A stern, aged voice rang out.

Everyone turned toward the voice and saw Lu Changgeng standing at the top of the stairs, his face dark with anger.

Only Shen Qingci's men acted as if they hadn't heard a thing.

After dealing with the newly arrived bodyguards, they turned and headed for Third Master Lu.

Third Master Lu shook with terror and yelled at his father:

“Dad! He's here for you! Make him stop!”

Lu Changgeng took in his son's idiotic behavior, his face turning purple.

It was plain to anyone that Shen Qingci had come looking for a fight; as if he'd stop just because Lu Changgeng said so?

Third Master Lu was yanked back.

A moment later, the screams started up again.

Lu Changgeng sucked in a breath, fighting to keep his rage in check, and forced his voice to stay level:

    “Mr. Shen, please show mercy.”

    Shen Qingci looked at him.

Those eyes were cold and clear as the moon, devoid of any emotion.

His thin lips parted and he said two words flatly:

    “No.”

His voice was barely a whisper, as soft as a sigh, yet it made Lu Changgeng's eyelid twitch uncontrollably.

He ground his teeth and drew another shaky breath:

“I know you're here for Lu Lin, so let's talk this out... properly, alright?”

Only then did Shen Qingci lift his eyes to Lu Changgeng.

Those eyes, calm just moments ago, suddenly turned icy, as if forged from frost.

The atmosphere around him grew frigid, as if the whole hall had dropped by several degrees.

He parted his thin lips, his voice like the cruelest winter, every word dripping with frost:

    “Talk properly?”

He paused, his voice turning even colder:

“Did you talk properly to the child I am raising?”
