    Chapter 106: Two Invitations

The office was quiet for a long time.

Shen Qingci had just finished processing a file when his phone vibrated again.

He picked it up—it was a message from Lu Lin.

"Brother, I have something to handle, so I won't come up~ I'll miss you [kiss]"

Shen Qingci looked at the message, his gaze lingered a moment on the last kiss emoji.

His cold, ethereal face showed no expression; his eyes simply lowered, lashes casting a small shadow beneath.

    He did not reply.

He set the phone aside and picked up the next file.

As if sensing his aloofness, sunlight slowly fell on his profile, outlining a cold and perfect silhouette.

Soon after, a light knock came at the door.

    "Come in."

Lin Wei pushed open the door and entered.

She stood in the doorway, looking at the figure cool as jade behind the desk. Her lips moved, as if about to speak, then hesitating.

Shen Qingci didn't look up, still focused on the documents.

Lin Wei was quiet for a few seconds before finally speaking:

"Mr. Shen, Chen Zhuo... submitted his resignation."

Shen Qingci's hand never paused while turning the pages; he merely gave a faint "Mm."

Lin Wei opened her mouth, hesitated, and ultimately left some words unsaid.

Chen Zhuo, setting aside other matters, was capable at work and was good with people.

But he had too much pride, and unfortunately had fallen for someone he shouldn't have...

Lin Wei let out an inward sigh.

She stepped forward and gently placed the stack of files in her arms on Shen Qingci's desk:

"Mr. Shen, these are the documents requiring your signature today."

Shen Qingci gave another "Mm," picked up the top file, and began to review it.

His movements were fluid, each signature decisive and clean—no wasted motion.

His slightly long ink-black hair draped loosely over his shoulders, a few strands falling by his face, swaying gently with his movements.

His posture was noble and composed, like a meticulously painted classical scroll—beautiful and otherworldly.

His delicate features were like an intricate portrait painted with painstaking care.

Lin Wei stood nearby, watching him silently.

Watching his perfect features, his calm composure while reviewing documents, the innate nobility and detachment in his every move.

She suddenly felt that working under such a perfect person and being recognized by him was truly a joy.

But at the same time, looking at that cold, almost lonely face, she felt an inexplicable sadness.

Shen Qingci noticed Lin Wei's gaze and looked up.

His eyes, cold as the moon and devoid of emotion, fixed on the dazed Lin Wei:

    "Is the school matter settled?"

Lin Wei snapped back to reality and quickly nodded.

At the thought of the school matter, her eyes grew warm with gratitude:

"It's taken care of. Mr. Lu handled it very cleanly."

    Her voice trembled with emotion:

"The principal and the teacher were sent to prison. The evidence Mr. Lu provided was enough to fill several baskets. The court sentenced them on the spot to life without parole. As for Chen Zhiyuan..."

She paused, taking a deep breath:

"They sent him back to his hometown. They say he's gone mad. Now he's in a psychiatric hospital, and he'll never get out for the rest of his life."

Having said that, she stepped back and gave a solemn bow.

Her posture was respectful and sincere, a thin film of tears forming in her eyes:

"Mr. Shen, thank you. And I'm sorry my soft heart caused you trouble."

    Her voice choked slightly:

"I feel so lucky to be able to work for you in this life. I think the best decision I ever made was to stay by your side."

    Shen Qingci looked at her.

Those exquisite eyes held no trace of emotion.

He sat there quietly, exuding an air of detachment from the world.

Like an exalted deity, looking down upon mortal gratitude and devotion.

After a moment, he lowered his head again and gave a faint "Mm."

That sound was so soft, as soft as a sigh.

Lin Wei was used to his cold manner. She straightened up, wiped the corner of her eye, and continued:

"So, as a way to repay you and Mr. Lu, I bought the villa right next to yours."

"That way, no matter how late, I can handle your work right away."

    Shen Qingci's hand paused mid-signature.

He looked up at Lin Wei once more.

Then he lowered his head and went back to signing.

After signing, he set the documents aside neatly and said calmly:

    "Alright."

Upon hearing Shen Qingci's reply, Lin Wei's eyes instantly lit up.

She couldn't keep the excitement out of her voice: "Then, Mr. Shen, if there's nothing else, I'll get back to work."

Just as she was about to leave, she remembered she had something else to report. She turned back, took out an exquisite invitation from her folder, and handed it to him:

"Mr. Shen, this is an invitation from the Xi Group. Xi Yan, the president of Xi Group, plans to hold his wedding ceremony in January next year."

Shen Qingci glanced at the invitation, then at the one sent by Feng Yuetian not far away.

The two invitations had completely different styles.

One was formal and dignified, with gold-embossed lettering and classical patterns, showing the reserved formality of a business deal.

The other was warm and informal, with handwritten text on delicate paper, carrying the warmth and sincerity of a personal friendship.

Shen Qingci picked up both invitations.

He lowered his eyes and opened them one by one.

On Feng Yuetian's invitation, the addressee read: "To my dear friend, Shen Qingci."

On Lin Wei's invitation, the guest was written as "Sincerely invites Mr. Shen Qing, CEO of Qingye Group."

The same wedding, yet different names.

Sunlight streamed through the window, glinting off the two exquisite invitations.

Shen Qingci's slightly long hair fell across his cheeks, casting faint shadows on his cool, handsome face.

He sat there quietly, looking almost ethereal, as if he might dissolve into the light and shadow at any moment.

He stared at them for a long moment.

    A very long moment.

Then, he handed back the invitation Lin Wei had brought, his voice as cold as ever:

"Send a gift in the name of Shen Qing, CEO of Qingye Group."

Lin Wei took the invitation and nodded seriously:

    "Yes, Mr. Shen."

She watched as Shen Qingci carefully put away the other invitation, then picked up his documents and continued working.

    His expression remained completely unchanged.

But Lin Wei somehow felt a faint loneliness coming from him.

She stood there, quietly watching him work.

She couldn't help thinking to herself: Mr. Shen is so cold.

So cold that nothing in this world seemed to matter to him, so cold you'd wonder if he was even real.

    But fortunately...

    There's Lu Lin.

    She thought to herself.

Otherwise, Mr. Shen would be way too lonely and pitiful.

She quietly slipped out and gently closed the door.

    The office grew quiet again.

Only the sunlight streamed silently, falling on that cold, lonely figure.
