Chapter 19: Revelation
by 墨墨不知道Chapter 19: Revelation
Wu Qinglan bit her lip, understanding her mother-in-law's meaning—she didn't want her to have too much contact with Song Qingyu, in order to avoid unnecessary trouble.
But Wu Qinglan really couldn't bear to see the young and beautiful Song Qingyu being tortured into a miserable state by her cruel mother-in-law.
Wu Qinglan was also a daughter-in-law and was about to have a baby. Her maternal instincts were strong, making her sympathetic.
She explained to Sun Qian, "Mom, I can't just stand by and watch Qingyu suffer. I want to help her."
"I know you mean well, but you need to be extra cautious since you’re pregnant."
Sun Qian knew that people don’t change overnight, and given Fu Yining's temperament, she seemed quite normal today, but who knows if she'll revert to madness tomorrow.
If her daughter-in-law continued to interact with them and encountered one of Fu Yining’s episodes, what if the baby in her womb gets hurt?
Sun Qian couldn't allow that.
After much thought, Wu Qinglan nodded and said, "Mom, I know what to do."
"Yes, it's good that you understand. Shall we walk a bit more and then head back?"
"Sure, whatever you say!"
On the other side, Song Qingyu seemed even more enthusiastic and boldly linked her arm with Fu Yining’s, continuing their conversation.
"Mom, what kind of clothes should I get for the baby?"
"Anything."
"Would pink clothes look nice?" Song Qingyu personally had a preference for pink, but...
"If I buy pink clothes and have a boy, wouldn’t it be inappropriate for a little boy to wear pink?"
"Why not? What’s the problem?" Fu Yining immediately countered, "What’s wrong with a boy? A boy can wear pink too!"
After all, the baby won’t know any better and won’t care what they wear.
Song Qingyu, who now obeyed Fu Yining without question, naturally found everything she said to be perfectly logical.
"Alright, I’ll buy pink clothes for the baby!" It just so happened that she liked pink too.
"As you wish."
With money to spare, Fu Yining thought for a moment and then took out her phone to transfer some money to Song Qingyu.
Believe it or not, Fu Yining and Song Qingyu only exchanged contact information yesterday. Before that, the only way they could communicate was face-to-face.
Honestly, how different is that from being strangers?
Fu Yining didn’t want to waste her money on her foolish son, who had been deceived by a bad woman, so she transferred the money to Song Qingyu, claiming it was for the baby in her belly.
Fu Yining told Song Qingyu to spend as much as she needed and not to feel wronged, as her happiness would contribute to the baby’s health.
Song Qingyu received the transfer notification and said helplessly, "Mom, I have my own savings."
Her late parents had left her a sum of money, enough for her to live on by being frugal.
But Fu Yining waved her hand without even turning her head, "Use it! Don’t let my precious grandchild suffer any hardship."
"Alright, I'll listen to you." Qingyu Song felt a warmth in her heart.
In fact, she knew that Fu Yining was just being aloof, pretending that the money was for the baby in her belly so that she wouldn't feel guilty about spending it.
With her peripheral vision never leaving Fu Yining's figure, Qingyu Song thought to herself that this person was really good to her, making her feel like everything now was just a dream. She was afraid that once she woke up, the old self would come back.
So, could she pray to always stay here?
Sneezing, Fu Yining suddenly felt an itch in her nose and reached out to touch it.
Looking up, the gate of the Yu family was wide open, right before them.
"We're home."
"Sure!"
Qingyu Song responded with a smile and followed Fu Yining into the house.
"Madam, young mistress, you’ve returned."
"Certainly."
When Fu Yining and Qingyu Song returned, Hu Ma had just finished cooking a beauty-boosting bedtime soup. To avoid being disturbed while gaming with her friends, Fu Yining decided to have some soup before heading upstairs.
Qingyu Song, however, returned to her room first and came back with a set of clothes.
"Mom, do you think it’s alright if I wear this tomorrow?"
Fu Yining looked up and saw the short chestnut-colored dress in Qingyu Song's hands.
To be honest, just by looking at the design of the dress, Fu Yining knew it would complement Qingyu Song's figure.
Seeing her still carefully observing, Qingyu Song held her breath in anticipation, awaiting her opinion.
After a while, Fu Yining nodded.
"Sure, go ahead and wear it."
Qingyu Song was delighted. "Mom, I can really wear this?"
"Hmm, wear it. The dress looks good."
"Thank you, Mom. I'll wear this tomorrow!" It would look great with a coat over it.
"Certainly."
Qingyu Song happily went upstairs with the clothes.
Fu Yining couldn't understand why a piece of clothing would make the young mistress so happy.
However, she didn't know that the dress Qingyu Song brought out was bought with her first paycheck after graduating from university, as a birthday gift to herself, which held great sentimental value.
As Fu Yining had observed, this little dress accentuated Qingyu Song's figure, and with its length above the knees, it had been deemed "indecent" by the previous "Fu Yining."
Despite not being much older and living in this progressive era, her views were more conservative than those of the Qing era, never letting Qingyu Song wear such "revealing" outfits.
Since then, Qingyu Song had kept this meaningful dress hidden away in her wardrobe, fearing that the "strict mother-in-law" might suddenly decide to throw it away.
Fu Yining herself was unaware of these details.
After she was transplanted into the book, she remembered the crucial plot points very clearly, but she wasn’t aware of the minor, seemingly trivial details.
She was also unaware that she had already revealed her innocence in front of Song Qingyu.
Carrying the clothes, Song Qingyu went upstairs and happened to encounter Yu ZhiLi, who had just finished his work and was about to go downstairs to rest.
As always, she greeted him politely.
Noticing what she was holding in her hand, Yu ZhiLi asked casually.
Song Qingyu smiled and replied, “Dad, tomorrow I’m going out with Qing Lan, who lives next door to us. Mom helped me choose a suitable outfit.”
As she said this, Song Qingyu was quietly observing Yu ZhiLi’s reaction.
She was now unsure if Yu ZhiLi knew that his daughter-in-law had been replaced, but she was determined to stand by Fu Yining and help keep everything hidden.
Hearing this, Yu ZhiLi just nodded and generously transferred a sum of money to his daughter-in-law.
Song Qingyu was stunned. “Um, Dad, it’s really not necessary…”
“Take it. Don’t undermine yourself.”
“Okay, thank you, Dad!”
Song Qingyu watched him leave and stood there, still holding the clothes, lost in thought.
Truth be told, in a way, the couple was really in sync. They both liked to resolve matters by transferring money.
In the resting room on the first floor, Fu Yining sat quietly, waiting for Hu Ma to bring over the soup.
