Chapter 28: Blinded
by 墨墨不知道Chapter 28: Blinded
Jia Jia hesitated for a second, then blurted out a number.
"So young!" Fu Yining exclaimed.
Jia Jia was about the same age as she was before this whole situation started, so it was no wonder she had been deceived by men's sweet words.
Yuan Yuan stared at Fu Yining for a while, then asked skeptically, "Sister, you don't look much older than us, so why did you say that?"
Jia Jia immediately chimed in, "Right! Totally!"
Fu Yining smiled, feeling reassured by their words. "I'm not as young as I look, though. My son is actually around your age."
"No way, sis, are you messing with us?"
"Seriously, how could that even be possible?"
Upon hearing Fu Yining mention she had a son as old as them, Yuan Yuan and Jia Jia's first reaction was: No way!
They both figured Fu Yining couldn’t be older than thirty. How could she have a son that old?
But looking at Fu Yining's expression, it certainly didn't seem like she was joking.
Yuan Yuan licked her lips and asked, a bit hesitant, "Sister, aren't you tricking us?"
Fu Yining chuckled.
"Why would I joke about that? Does it really look like I have a kid your age?"
"Not at all, seriously!" the two girls answered in unison.
Not at all! They were sure she was joking with them, right?
Fu Yining tapped the table and said seriously, "But I’m dead serious, every word is true." In fact, she was about to have a grandchild.
"…!"
If it weren’t for her kind face, they’d never have bought it.
The two were shocked for a while. Just as Jia Jia was about to ask Fu Yining her secret to staying so young, Yuan Yuan tugged at her clothes, stopping her in time.
"What is it?"
Yuan Yuan hadn’t paid much attention before, but now she noticed that Fu Yining's attire and accessories didn’t look cheap.
Regardless of how this wealthy sister ended up here, Yuan Yuan guessed that since Fu Yining dared to tell them her real age, the effort and money she invested in staying young were definitely not something they could afford.
So asking would be pointless.
"Jia Jia, don't ask that for now. By the way, sister, are you out here playing by yourself today?"
"Yes."
"What a coincidence, so are we."
It was just that the two girls had their mood for fun ruined by Big Head's mother earlier.
Thinking of what had happened earlier, Fu Yining apologized to them, saying that she didn’t mean to eavesdrop and that asking about their age right away felt a bit rude.
Jia Jia immediately reassured them that it was no problem.
Fu Yining asked further and learned their real names: Chen Yujia and Wu Yuan. The two girls also found out Fu Yining's name.
Chen Yujia silently repeated "Fu Yining" to herself, feeling like she had heard it somewhere before.
But for now, she couldn't quite remember.
Since they were all acquainted, Wu Yuan rested her chin on her hand and asked Fu Yining, who was sitting opposite them, "Sister Yining, do you think Jia Jia is being silly?"
Forgiving someone like Big Head over and over—doesn't that sound like she's got her head in the clouds when it comes to love?
Chen Yujia knew she was too soft-hearted, but she cared about their relationship too much to just throw in the towel.
He said he would change, so shouldn't she give him one last shot?
Wu Yuan gave a half-smile and said, "Is this really the last time? Or has it been the 'last time' multiple times already?"
Big Head barely had to try; just a little sweet-talking, and she'd melt and forgive him.
Just thinking about it made Wu Yuan want to pull her hair out.
Seeing her friend's reaction, Chen Yujia felt awkward and defensive.
She looked at Fu Yining and realized Fu Yining was looking at her as well. Chen Yujia wanted to ask Fu Yining for her opinion.
"Sister Yining, do you think I did something wrong?"
Fu Yining didn't answer directly but asked her, "Does your boyfriend treat you well?"
Chen Yujia nodded.
To be fair, Big Head was pretty good to her, giving her a lot of emotional support. Although she later found out that Big Head offered the same emotional value to other young women.
Chen Yujia had very strict parents who had controlled her life meticulously since she was young. They rarely showed her any affection.
So now, Chen Yujia clung to the warmth and attention Big Head gave her, and she just couldn't bring herself to end things.
Listening to Chen Yujia repeating the things Big Head had said, Fu Yining felt quite emotional.
Chen Yujia, who had never received enough love from her parents, was easily deceived by someone else's sweet words.
Those 'sweet nothings' were clearly copied from some random website—old-fashioned lines that sounded super corny now.
But Chen Yujia, lost in love, couldn't see the red flags.
Wu Yuan patted her silly friend and explained to Fu Yining, "Sister Yining, let me tell you, many people pursued Jia Jia when we were in college, but she insisted on being with Big Head."
Talk about a beauty and the beast situation!
Fu Yining became curious.
"What's the story with Big Head?" She also followed the girls in using his nickname.
Wu Yuan snorted lightly. "He's not good-looking, but his head is quite big, which is how he got the nickname 'Big Head.'"
Chen Yujia, having a filter for her boyfriend, quickly explained to Fu Yining, "Sister Yining, actually, Big Head is okay-looking. He might not be traditionally handsome."
Wu Yuan couldn't believe it—was Chen Yujia seriously trying to insult the word 'handsome'?
Now Fu Yining completely understood.
Turns out, Big Head has no looks or family background to speak of, and he only had a way with words, using them to charm people. Even though he has a girlfriend, he can’t seem to settle down and often went out to have fun with other young women.
And yet, Chen Yujia hasn’t broken up with him? She must be blinded by love.
But of course, Fu Yining couldn’t say that directly to Chen Yujia’s face. Instead, she just asked her, “Do your parents know about what Big Head has been doing?”
Chen Yujia nodded. “They know, because last time when I had a fight with Big Head, it was accidentally discovered by them.”
Once they found out and started asking questions, it caused a huge uproar. They insisted she break up with Big Head, but in the end, she just couldn’t bring herself to leave him.
Fu Yining had guessed this would be the case.
If Chen Yujia’s parents knew, they probably wouldn’t allow Big Head to drag their daughter into this mess.
Fu Yining tactfully asked, “Does Big Head still go out to have fun with others?”
Chen Yujia hesitated and then uncertainly said, “Probably not?”
But in reality, Chen Yujia couldn’t be sure. Because on workdays, she was at work, leaving Big Head, who had just quit his job, at home. Oh, and now Big Head’s mother was also there.
Chen Yujia wasn’t sure where Big Head went every day.
But Big Head told her he was actively looking for a job. Should she believe him?
Wu Yuan didn’t want to hurt her friend, but—“How do you know he’s out looking for a job and not hanging out with dubious company?”
Yes, that made a lot of sense!
Fu Yining also looked at Chen Yujia.
Chen Yujia shook her head. “With Big Head’s mom around, he probably wouldn’t do that.”
Wu Yuan countered, “That’s his mom. If anything goes wrong, she’d definitely cover for him!”
“Really?”
