Chapter 156: The Due Date Approaches
by 墨墨不知道Chapter 156: The Due Date Approaches
Fu Yining came downstairs and saw Wu Qinglan and her daughter about to leave.
"Leaving already? Won't you stay a little longer?"
Wu Qinglan smiled and said, "Aunt Fu, we won't disturb you this time. I'll bring Mengshu over to visit after Qingyu gives birth!"
"Alright, take care on your way."
Fu Yining watched them leave, then went to find Song Qingyu to take her to the hospital.
"Mom, can you stay with me a bit longer?"
"Of course, except for sleeping at night, I'll be with you all the time."
She had discussed with Yu Zhili that she would stay at the hospital with Song Qingyu, who had been feeling very insecure lately, and would notify him promptly if anything happened.
As for Yu Mingze, he could come if he wanted, but it didn't matter if he didn't, since he wouldn't be much help anyway.
Fu Yining gestured, "Shall we go? Wu Yuan and Chen Yujia said they'd come to see you later."
"Okay!"
Song Qingyu touched her belly, still feeling a little shy.
The nanny, Aunt Qi, helped her up and slowly followed Fu Yining.
Before leaving, Fu Yining reminded Cheng Yu to take good care of the cats at home.
Cheng Yu nodded, "Don't worry, Madam, I'll make sure they're well taken care of and healthy!"
"They don't need to be plump, especially Qiuqiu—don't let it steal Pipi's food."
No wonder those two kittens are always fighting!
-
"Are you sure this is the right hospital?"
"This is the hospital—why would we lie to you?"
Wu Yuan and Chen Yujia, arm in arm, stood next to a tall, thin man who gazed at the grand building in surprise.
To him, such an extravagant hospital only existed in TV dramas, and seeing it in real life was truly astonishing.
Wu Yuan patted him, "Pingping, stop staring—we have important things to do!"
"Okay."
He Ping looked away and followed them, trying to stay composed.
"Is it this way?"
"I think so."
Wu Yuan and Chen Yujia were also here for the first time. They checked the signs on the wall and slowly made their way forward.
When they took the elevator to the 12th floor, the nurse at the station stopped them, noticing they were unfamiliar, and asked, "Who are you here to see?"
Wu Yuan answered politely, "Hello, we're here to see Song Qingyu in room 1206."
"And you are?"
"We're her friends."
The nurse nodded, "Just a moment, please."
She turned to make a call and only let them in after getting a response.
"Room 1206 is to the left. You can head over now."
"Okay, thank you."
The three turned and walked to the left.
Once they were out of the nurse's earshot, He Ping whispered, "I didn't realize this hospital was so strict."
Wu Yuan and Chen Yujia nodded.
"Probably to keep random people from causing trouble. It is a VIP ward, after all."
"That's right. Qingyu married into a rich family. Otherwise, we might not have gotten in."
He Ping asked, confused, "Wait, didn't you say she was divorced?"
Wu Yuan snorted.
"What does it matter if she's divorced? Qingyu is still her wealthy mother-in-law's favorite!"
Chen Yujia nodded enthusiastically.
"...?" He Ping started to question his own smarts.
Why wasn't he getting what they were saying?
"12...06, here we are! Pingping, knock on the door!"
"Yes, ma'am."
He Ping stepped forward and knocked on the door.
Soon, a slightly plump, short-haired woman opened the door.
Wu Yuan and Chen Yujia had seen her before and knew she was the nanny taking care of Song Qingyu.
"You must be Miss Song's friends! Come on in!"
"Okay, thank you."
Wu Yuan and Chen Yujia dashed in, scanned the room, and made a beeline for the balcony.
"Qingyu! Hey, Sis Ning!"
He Ping, just inside, couldn't help but gasp again. He rubbed his nose and thanked Auntie Qi for opening the door.
Is this really a hospital room? If no one told him, he'd swear it was a five-star hotel!
"Please, sit anywhere."
"Sis Ning, you two are really living it up, huh!"
"You bet!"
Before the others arrived, Fu Yining and Song Qingyu were lounging on the balcony, soaking up the sun.
Fu Yining lazily pointed to a pile of food on the table beside her and said, "Help yourself to whatever you like, no need to hold back!"
"No worries, we won't hold back!" Wu Yuan plopped down and exclaimed, "Wow, the view here is amazing!"
Chen Yujia bent down and carefully pressed her ear against Song Qingyu's belly, softly asking, "Qingyu, is the baby being good in there?"
Song Qingyu nodded, "The baby's been really good."
"That's great to hear."
Chen Yujia found a chair nearby and then remembered they seemed to have forgotten someone.
"Qingyu, check out who we brought along! Ping Ping, come on over!"
Song Qingyu turned her head and looked over, showing surprise.
"He Ping?"
"Yep, it's me."
He Ping nodded and explained, "I'm in town for work, so I tagged along to see you."
"Thanks for coming."
Fu Yining leaned closer to Wu Yuan and whispered, "Is this the friend you were telling me about on the phone?"
"Yeah, Sis Ning, I meant to introduce you. He Ping, Jia Jia, and I, we're all Qingyu's college buddies!"
Back in college, though, He Ping didn't hang out with Song Qingyu as much as Chen Yujia and I did. The three of us were tight and always grabbing meals together.
Fu Yining nodded.
He Ping chatted a bit with Song Qingyu and finally turned his gaze to Fu Yining, who was sitting on the other side.
He'd heard how Wu Yuan and Chen Yujia referred to her and paused, unsure.
"Qingyu, is this your sis?"
Song Qingyu shook her head, "Nope, this is my mom."
"...?"
Fu Yining waved and greeted a confused He Ping, "Hey there!"
"Uh, hi!"
He Ping was baffled by their family titles. Two called her 'Sis,' one 'Mom'—what was he supposed to call her?
Wu Yuan beckoned to him and said, "Ping Ping, quit standing around and grab a seat!"
"Sis Ning, just call him Ping Ping, like us. Ping Ping's here for work and heads back the day after tomorrow."
With that, she grabbed a grape off the table and popped it into her mouth.
Fu Yining smiled and asked, "Can I?"
"Go ahead, call her that!"
He Ping hesitated briefly, then went along with Wu Yuan and Song Qingyu in addressing her.
He didn't want to end up a generation below them for no reason.
When Wu Yuan realized he had caught on, she was a bit let down.
"Pingping, do you want an apple?"
He Ping directly refused, "Thank you, but I don't want one!"
"I wasn't offering it to you; I wanted you to peel one for me."
"Dream on, I'm not peeling it!"
Wu Yuan persisted, holding Fu Yining's arm, and hinted, "Since you've called her sister, how about peeling one as a sign of respect?"
He Ping nodded, "Of course, sister, just wait a sec, I'll peel one for you right now!"
Fu Yining couldn't help but smile.
She wasn't that keen on it, but she appreciated her little brother's thoughtful gesture.
