Chapter 46: Fox or Cat?
by 墨墨不知道Chapter 46: Fox or Cat?
"Sister Yining, your son really takes after you! He looks so handsome!"
"He’s not bad, I guess."
After finishing their conversation, Fu Yining and Yu Mingze left separately. Wu Yuan walked with her, continuing their chat.
"Honestly, Sister Yining, if you hadn’t told me, I’d have thought he was your little brother."
Fu Yining smiled. "Are you still doubting my age?"
"No, no. I truly believe it now."
Wu Yuan jokingly said that Yu Mingze matched her ideal type quite well, and if he weren't married, she would definitely pursue him.
Upon hearing this, Fu Yining shook her head disapprovingly. "That wouldn’t be a good idea. You should look for someone else."
Though it’s not nice to say, he’s kind of a jerk.
"Sister Yining, I was only joking. I wouldn’t do anything to break up a family."
"No, you’ve misunderstood me. It’s not about that."
Fu Yining sighed. "My son is a bit of a jerk. You really shouldn’t like him!"
Wu Yuan: "……?"
"What do you mean? Isn’t he here with his wife? I thought they were doing quite well together?"
"Haha, that’s not his wife."
"Wait, what?"
"That’s his side chick."
"Wait, what?"
Wu Yuan was completely taken aback.
"That girl isn’t your daughter-in-law?"
"No. She’s not."
Seeing that Fu Yining didn’t seem to be joking, Wu Yuan let out an awkward laugh.
She couldn’t imagine someone as great as Sister Yining choosing a daughter-in-law who gave people side-eye, but it turned out to be a mistress!
Wait, a mistress?
Wu Yuan leaned closer to Fu Yining and whispered, "Sister Yining, aren’t you going to do something about them?"
"If I don’t even want to deal with him, why would I get involved with them?" Fu Yining sighed again.
Wu Yuan understood.
Well, no wonder Sister Yining said not to fall for her son. That’s why.
Thinking of this, Wu Yuan became curious again. "So, what about your actual daughter-in-law?"
"She knows about it too, but right now she's busy taking care of her kids and posting videos online, so she doesn't have the time to bother with them."
"Oh, I see."
Wu Yuan genuinely felt sorry for this girl she had never met. But then she realized that Fu Yining clearly doted on her actual daughter-in-law, so she wouldn’t let her get the short end of the stick.
"By the way, Sis Yining, your daughter-in-law posts videos online. Is she a blogger? I had a college classmate who was also a blogger back in school and had quite a lot of fans."
"What a coincidence? My daughter-in-law also started making videos when she was in college."
"Really? What’s her handle? Can I follow her?"
Fu Yining thought for a moment and said, "Hmm, I don't know if she's willing to share it. If you want to know, I can tell you after I ask her, alright?"
"Oh, right. I shouldn’t have pried into that. Sorry!" Wu Yuan replied.
"It's okay." Fu Yining really didn’t mind at all.
"So, Sis Yining, where to next?"
"Let's go—there!"
Up ahead, a new, spacious accessories store had just opened. From afar, Fu Yining noticed the store gleaming and, curious, nudged Wu Yuan inside to check it out.
Wu Yuan teased, "Sister, do you still need more jewelry?"
She knew that Fu Yining was a true rich lady, and probably any piece of jewelry she picked out would be worth several months of her salary. But although the items in this store were pretty, they weren’t necessarily real.
"Who ever has enough jewelry, right?"
Although Fu Yining had an entire room dedicated to her collection, that didn’t mean she was satisfied.
She pulled Wu Yuan inside. A round-faced staff member was busy organizing and cleaning the merchandise.
"Welcome, ladies! Feel free to browse!"
The bright lights made the sparkly accessories shine even brighter.
"Wow, Sister Yining, these things are quite beautiful!"
"Haha, now you want some too, right?"
"Mhm."
Fu Yining and Wu Yuan browsed slowly, and the staff member continued with her tasks, not disturbing the customers. With plenty of surveillance cameras installed overhead and in the corners, they weren’t worried about theft.
After browsing and trying on necklaces, Fu Yining wasn’t impressed, but Wu Yuan found a few that matched her outfits.
In the earring section, the display had disposable alcohol wipes for customers to sanitize before trying on earrings.
Wu Yuan, who didn’t have pierced ears and was afraid of the pain, stuck to looking for clip-on earrings.
"Sister Yining, what are you looking at?"
Following Fu Yining’s gaze, Wu Yuan picked up a pair of earrings from a clear, dust-protected bag.
The earrings featured a black gemstone that was wider at the top and tapered into a teardrop shape. Above the gemstone, a pair of silver ears stood up on either side, making the entire earring only the size of a pinky fingernail.
"Sister Yining, do you like this pair of fox-head earrings?"
"A fox? Isn't it a kitten?"
"Huh? I think it’s a fox."
Wu Yuan flipped over the price tag on the back, which had a line of description written on it: Premium Black Obsidian Fox Head Earrings, ¥249.
"See? I said it's a fox!"
Fu Yining couldn't understand why this clearly cute kitten head was labeled as a fox.
"Why does it look like a kitten head? Kitten heads are usually more round, aren’t they?" Wu Yuan pointed at the earrings and said.
Fu Yining shook her head. "But not all kitten faces are round, right? The really round ones just have chubby cheeks."
Wu Yuan carefully recalled her newly adopted kitten. The kitten was young and hadn't developed chubby cheeks yet, but it did have a small chin on its round face.
"Yining, I think you might be onto something."
"Right?"
However, what Fu Yining was stuck on wasn't really what animal this pair of earrings was supposed to mimic. What really threw her off was how familiar these earrings looked.
Wu Yuan stroked her chin and guessed, "Yining, this style has been around for quite some time. Maybe you’ve had this style before?"
"Hmm, possible!"
Fu Yining thought about it seriously and decided to purchase them.
She had her ears pierced, so she could wear them. She also noticed Yu Zhili, who usually kept to himself and gave off a cool vibe, with a pierced right earlobe. But he never wore any other earrings.
This unexpected contrast made her curious in a way that was hard to ignore.
Fu Yining wouldn’t admit, even to herself, that the reason she was so drawn to these earrings was that she thought the dark, mysterious obsidian would look perfect on Yu Zhili’s earlobe.
"Sister Yining, what's wrong?"
"Nothing, let's go check out other places."
"Sure thing!"
Seeing Wu Yuan's bright smile, Fu Yining couldn't help but mentally scold herself: I can’t believe I’m thinking about him during such a perfect moment!
