    Chapter 27: Can't Sit Still

Yuan Yuan asked Jia Jia, "Do your parents know about this?"

She recalled that Jia Jia's parents weren't fond of Big Head and probably wouldn't want their daughter to keep dating him.

Sure enough, Jia Jia shook her head and said that her parents were on a business trip out of town and hadn't been home recently.

Yuan Yuan figured that if Jia Jia's parents were here, they'd never let Big Head or his mom set foot in the place!

"When your parents get back, do you have any idea how you'll explain this to them?"

Jia Jia hesitated for a moment before admitting she hadn't thought about it.

"Big Head says he's going to change. Maybe my parents will come around, right?"

Yuan Yuan was speechless and asked Jia Jia a crucial question, "What about Big Head's job if he moves here?"

"He already quit his job back home."

    "Huh?"

"Big Head said he wants to live with me, so he's going to find a job here and quit his old job."

    Yuan Yuan: "..."

    "Has he found one yet?"

"Not yet." Jia Jia felt a little embarrassed.

Upon hearing this, Yuan Yuan held her chest and struggled to breathe. "So, are you basically supporting him right now?"

"Not exactly. Big Head has some savings, and he's actively looking for a job." Jia Jia carefully added, "I think he's serious about living with me, so I don't want to break up. I want to wait and see."

Yuan Yuan gave a dry laugh.

Sometimes, Yuan Yuan wished she could zap some sense into her love-struck friend!

When the food arrived, Jia Jia tried to change the subject by urging Yuan Yuan to eat.

"Let's drop it for now. Let's just eat!"

Yuan Yuan picked up her chopsticks and poked at the carrots. "Suddenly lost my appetite. I don't really feel like eating."

    "Should I feed you?"

    "Get lost!"

Yuan Yuan was obviously still upset about the earlier conversation, especially when Big Head's mother called to "bother" Jia Jia during their meal.

Even though Jia Jia had already messaged that she wouldn’t be home for lunch, her phone kept ringing.

Helpless, Jia Jia answered the call to see what the other side wanted.

A female voice with an accent came through the phone, immediately accusing Jia Jia, "Jia Jia, you're really insensible. You went out to eat, so what about me and Zhihao?"

Jia Jia patiently explained, "Auntie, there should be frozen dumplings in the fridge. You and Zhihao can cook them."

"How can that be okay? Frozen food is so unhealthy. You should come back for a bit."

The woman on the other end wouldn’t let up, insisting that Jia Jia come back to cook for them.

Jia Jia was starting to get a headache from the argument.

She had clearly told them that she would be out with her friends all day and that they should handle other matters themselves. They had agreed last night, so why were they reneging now?

"Who are you, old lady? Is Jia Jia your maid? Living in her house and still expecting her to serve you? How nerve! Living in her house and still expecting her to wait on you hand and foot!" Yuan Yuan, seeing Jia Jia's distress, snatched her phone and yelled at the woman on the other end.

"Hey, what’s your problem? And who are you, anyway!"

The woman on the other end cursed Yuan Yuan out, which made Jia Jia even more frustrated.

    "Yuan Yuan, maybe?"

    "Baby, don’t say anything yet."

Cool-headed, Yuan Yuan unleashed a barrage of insults at the woman on the other end of the line.

Hearing the woman’s furious rant, Yuan Yuan calmly added, "Old lady, I’m hanging up now. You can get as mad as you want, but Jia Jia isn’t coming back to serve you!"

With that, Yuan Yuan hung up the phone.

    "Beep, beep, beep——"

The woman in the living room stomped her feet, fuming with rage.

"That little b*tch dares to hang up on me!"

Sitting on the side, Wang Zhihao (Big Head) reluctantly pulled his eyes away from the seductively dancing pretty girl on his phone and said to the woman, "Mom, what’s the rush? If Jia Jia doesn’t come back, we’ll just eat ourselves."

The woman couldn’t swallow her anger. She walked over to her son sitting on the couch and complained, "Zhihao, this isn’t right. If Jia Jia dares to defy me now, won’t she turn the household upside down when she marries into our family?"

Wang Zhihao hadn’t thought that far ahead. Jia Jia had almost broken up with him recently, but he managed to win her back. Now, he needed to behave himself in front of her to avoid a real breakup.

So he tried to calm her down. "Mom, look at this place—this big house, this amazing city. Lingchuan City, being a first-tier metropolis, is worlds apart from our small, third- or fourth-tier hometown."

And the house they were staying in, bought by Jia Jia’s parents, was spacious and well-lit. Even the small room she was staying in felt roomy and bright.

    "Exactly!"

Wang Zhihao clapped his hands and gestured for his mother to sit closer.

"Mom, just be patient. Think about it. Jia Jia is an only child. Her parents will give her everything in the future."

"Once Jia Jia and I are married, her house and money will all be ours. Then you can choose any room you want, and we won’t have to go back to the countryside. I’ll have Jia Jia hire a maid to serve you."

"You’re such a good son! Fine, I’ll do as you say!"

Hearing this, the woman immediately puffed out her chest, imagining a beautiful future.

She’d wear gold and silver jewelry and visit her poor relatives in the countryside, showing off how her son had made it big and brought her to live in the city.

"But no need for a maid—it’s a waste of money. Jia Jia’s fine; she’s just lazy right now. After we’re married, with a bit of training, she’ll become diligent."

"Exactly!" Wang Zhihao was clearly thinking the same thing as his mother.

He thought to himself that once he married Jia Jia, he would finally have a place to call home in this city.

His mother had raised him by herself to this age, so naturally, he wanted to take care of her first whenever he had something good.

Jia Jia, clueless that her house and money were on someone's radar, pulled her hand back from Yuan Yuan's grip.

Jia Jia let out a nervous laugh. "Yuan Yuan, what's up with you?"

"What's up with me? Jia Jia, didn't you just hear? Big Head's mom was so 'friendly,' huh? Like she owns the place or something. Aren't you pissed off by this?"

    "Uh-huh."

Jia Jia tried to explain. "Big Head's mom is from the countryside and never went to school, so she can come off as a bit rough. And Big Head's dad passed away, so she raised him all by herself. It wasn't easy for her."

At this point, even Fu Yining, sitting across from them, couldn't take it anymore—not just Yuan Yuan.

    "Hey, how old are you?"

Fu Yining couldn't hold back and asked Jia Jia, who was sitting across from her.
