Chapter 29: Recruitment
by 墨墨不知道Chapter 29: Recruitment
"Of course they would! A mom will always back her kid! You're so good, so obedient, so trusting—they could empty out everything in your house and you wouldn't even know!"
There was no need to ask; the "they" Wu Yuan was referring to was clearly Big Head and his mother.
She just couldn't understand what kind of trick Big Head and his mother had pulled on Chen Yujia to make her trust them so much.
Chen Yujia touched her nose and said with certainty, "They wouldn't just clear out my place. You know I've installed security cameras at home, right? I can see what's going on inside."
"Hey, you're finally thinking ahead. Are you planning to guard against them?" Wu Yuan asked, surprised.
"Oh, no."
Actually, it's just because Chen Yujia had a puppy in her house, and she had installed the security cameras to check on her pup while she was at work.
In short, it had nothing to do with Big Head and his mother.
Fu Yining seemed deep in thought and asked whether Big Head and his mother knew about the security cameras.
"No, Big Head just moved in recently, I haven't had the chance to tell him."
And it seemed like Big Head and his mother hadn't noticed?
After all, the cameras were installed for Chen Yujia to slack off at work and check on her cute puppy to recharge, not to spy on people.
Does it even matter if they know?
Wu Yuan clapped her hands excitedly.
"Jia Jia, you've finally done something right. Listen to me, don't go telling them about the cameras. If they find out themselves, that's fine, but don't say anything."
"Why?"
"Why else?"
Wu Yuan winked slyly.
"Didn't you say Big Head and his mother are good people? Why would good people be afraid of cameras? Take the opportunity to take a secret peek; maybe they'll give you a 'surprise'!"
Chen Yujia thought for a moment and hesitated, "Isn't that a little shady?"
"What's shady about it? You're just keeping an eye on your dog, and you can see what they're up to while you're at it. It's not like you're intentionally spying on them."
Wu Yuan's sixth sense told her that Big Head and his mother definitely had ulterior motives. They might even be mistreating the puppy Chen Yujia had left at home.
The reason was simple: Big Head doesn't seem like the type to care about animals, and since he and his mother were already bossing around the owner of the house, Chen Yujia, they certainly wouldn't tolerate a dog making mistakes.
Because Chen Yujia's puppy was very cute, but had a little flaw—it liked to chew and bite shoes. The good-tempered Chen Yujia was willing to indulge it, but Wu Yuan didn't believe that the mother and son could stand it.
Fu Yining also thought Wu Yuan's idea was excellent.
When she first got into the story, wasn't it when the female supporting character was framing the female lead?
If the cameras at home hadn't been broken back then, she would have loved to shove the evidence in the male lead's face and make him see the female supporting character's true colors!
So, after strong persuasion from both Fu Yining and Wu Yuan, Chen Yujia agreed and said she would do as they suggested.
Wu Yuan was satisfied and, seeing a large group of customers coming in to dine, suggested to the other two that they move to a different spot to continue their conversation.
"Jia Jia, Yining, we're pretty much done eating. How about we head out and find a cozy spot to keep chatting?"
"Sure."
Fu Yining called over the waiter and insisted on paying for all three of them, despite Wu Yuan and Chen Yujia's protests.
"Yining, that's too much! We should split it."
"It's okay, I'm very happy to have met you today, so let me pay this time."
Fu Yining smiled.
After settling the bill, they headed outside.
It was still sunny for an early autumn afternoon. Chen Yujia, who knew the area well, led them to a nearby café, where they ordered a few drinks and settled in to continue their conversation.
Wu Yuan asked curiously, "Yining, what do you do for work?"
"Me?"
Fu Yining thought for a moment. "I guess you could say I'm a stay-at-home mom. I mostly take care of the kids."
"Got it, you're a stay-at-home mom."
Wu Yuan noticed her elegant attire and assumed that even as a housewife, she probably didn’t need to do the housework herself, naturally hiring someone to take care of it.
"Wu Yuan sighed wistfully, 'Man, that sounds amazing! I’m seriously thinking about quitting my job right now.'"
Fu Yining asked a few more questions, and Wu Yuan sighed as she explained her situation.
Like Chen Yujia, she had studied fashion design in college. After graduation, Chen Yujia was recruited by a company to design skins for characters in a game, while Wu Yuan switched careers to become a stylist, something she was passionate about.
Wu Yuan had steady hands and excellent taste. During college, she earned a lot of pocket money by doing makeup and styling for students who sought her out, and after graduation, she successfully found a studio that took her on.
However, the studio she joined was run like a family business. Most of the other stylists were related to each other, leaving Wu Yuan as the outsider.
They ganged up on her because she was younger, and soon, Wu Yuan found herself completely isolated.
Even though her skills were far better than theirs, she had no future there. It made her miserable at work and even after hours, so the idea of quitting kept growing.
Wu Yuan sighed again, "If only I had enough savings, I really wouldn't want to continue doing this."
Chen Yujia patted her to comfort her.
Fu Yining recalled that her personal stylist, Xiao Lin, had recently mentioned resigning to move back to her hometown with her boyfriend and start a new life there.
If Xiao Lin left, she would indeed need a new stylist to design her makeup and outfits for events and galas. As a wealthy socialite, there were quite a few occasions that required careful dressing.
Although there were plenty of stylists willing to serve her with a wave of her hand, she had taken a liking to Wu Yuan, feeling that Wu Yuan was a perfect fit.
The only question was whether Wu Yuan would be willing to resign and work in Lingchuan City.
When Fu Yining extended the invitation, Wu Yuan was taken aback, but then her excitement kicked in.
"Really? I would definitely want to! Lingchuan is wonderful, but Yining, are you sure you really want me?"
Fu Yining said in a deliberately serious tone, "Sure, but you’ll need to show me what you’ve got. If it’s not up to par, I might have to pass!"
Wu Yuan stuck out her tongue and said with a smile, "Oops, I was so happy that I forgot about that! Don't worry, Yining, I promise you'll be satisfied!"
"You're pretty confident, huh?"
"You bet! But, Yining, can I ask about my pay?"
"Here’s what I’m thinking."
Fu Yining flashed a number with her fingers, leaving Wu Yuan gaping.
"W-what?!"
"Not enough? Want me to throw in a little extra?"
"No, no, that's not it!" Wu Yuan was just shocked by how generous Fu Yining was being.
Honestly, she was really intrigued by Fu Yining's offer!
Wu Yuan realized she still had some photos on her phone and quickly pulled it out to show Fu Yining.
