Chapter 170: Cats: We’re Pros at Soothing Kids!

"Qingyu, your son is absolutely adorable! Mengshu, look! It’s your baby brother!"

Wu Qinglan held her daughter and played with the baby in the cradle.

Song Qingyu sat beside them, watching the baby in the cradle open his little mouth, showing off his toothless gums.

"Qingyu, your baby is such a happy little guy. He’s going to grow up to be such a cheerful, handsome boy! I wonder how many little girls will like him!"

    "Yeah."

Song Qingyu wasn’t too concerned about what the future held for her child. As long as he grew up healthy and safe, that was all that mattered.

After giving birth to Song Jingcong, Song Qingyu's body recovered well. Since others were helping take care of the baby, she hardly had to worry about anything. She was in great shape, both physically and mentally.

Wu Qinglan shifted her position, holding her daughter closer, and sat back on the small sofa beside them.

She looked down and saw that little Mengshu's eyes hadn’t left the cradle, and her tiny arms were waving like she was trying to grab something.

"Mengshu, do you really like your baby brother that much?"

    "Yeah!"

"When you can talk, go tell Aunt Qingyu yourself that you want your baby brother to be your husband, okay?"

    "Yeah!"

Song Qingyu watched the playful banter between the mother and daughter and smiled. "If the kids are okay with it, I won’t stand in the way."

Wu Qinglan gently patted her daughter's bottom and said with a smile, "Did you hear that? Aunt Qingyu said she’s fine with it. Zhao Mengshu, you’ll have to work hard yourself!"

Little Mengshu just grinned goofily, not sure if she understood.

Song Qingyu gently rocked the cradle and heard the baby whimper a couple of times.

    He must be hungry.

Yu Mingze, who was home on leave, timed it just right and appeared in the room with a bottle.

"Is the baby hungry? I’ll feed him!"

With someone else willing to help, Song Qingyu was more than happy to take a break.

Wu Qinglan gave the two of them a knowing, gossipy look, then sent a teasing glance toward Song Qingyu.

Song Qingyu just smiled and didn’t say anything.

She could tell his eagerness to care for the baby came mostly from his genuine love for the child, but his hope of getting back together with her was pretty obvious too.

Song Qingyu was solely focused on raising her child and had no interest in rekindling anything romantic. Since Yu Mingze was the baby's father, she couldn’t stop him from visiting.

She chose to ignore his obvious hints and didn’t give him any encouragement.

Perhaps after some time, he would come to terms with it on his own.

Yu Mingze was clueless about her thoughts, still happily lost in his daydreams about their future.

He held the bottle in one hand and cradled his precious son in the other, his gaze exceptionally tender as he looked at the little one.

Ever since the baby arrived, he's been more driven at work, doesn't get flustered anymore when his dad scolds him, and his work efficiency and skills have shot up.

He’s all in when it comes to setting up a future for his son!

When the bottle was empty, Yu Mingze set it aside and skillfully patted his son’s back to help him burp.

He hadn't closed the door when he entered, and outside, three little heads were sneakily peeking in.

"Mimi, Pipi, Qiuqiu, come on in, guys!"

Song Qingyu also saw them and waved them over.

The three little heads hesitated for a moment, then tiptoed in.

To put it in one sentence: they were being super sneaky.

This wasn't the first time they had entered this room, nor was it the first time they had seen the baby, but they still got a bit shy around strangers.

    "Meow!"

"Wanna see the baby? He’s right here!"

Yu Mingze sat on the sofa, and the three cats jumped up beside him, sniffing at the baby in his arms.

Pipi and Qiuqiu leaned in, instinctively went to lick the baby’s hair, but Fu Xiaomi gave a soft meow, firmly stopping them.

The kittens behaved, waiting obediently for Fu Xiaomi’s cue.

Fu Xiaomi reached out a paw and tapped Yu Mingze’s arm, who understood and placed the baby back in the crib.

    The three cats followed.

    "Meow."

A gentle meow sounded, and little Song Jingcong opened his big eyes, quietly gazing at the three cat faces in front of him.

No fuss, no movement; instead, he slowly closed his eyes amidst the cat's meows.

Fu Xiaomi pawed at the blanket next to the baby to test it out, then curled up and settled down beside him.

Seeing this, Pipi and Qiuqiu also curled up on the small bed to nap.

Seeing the baby safely nestled among the three cats, Wu Qinglan laughed.

"Your cats even help put the baby to sleep!"

"Whenever they’re here, the baby dozes off in no time," Song Qingyu was already used to them freely entering and exiting the nursery.

Fu Xiaomi’s sharp and knows just how far to go; she's also great at soothing the baby, and wherever she is, Pipi and Qiuqiu know better than to act up.

Yu Mingze tucked the baby in with a blanket when his phone rang.

"Sorry, I need to take this call."

Not wanting to wake the baby, he hurriedly grabbed his phone and stepped out.

Song Qingyu looked at the excited little Mengshu in Wu Qinglan's arms, her eyes sparkling, "What's wrong with her?"

"What do you think? She spotted your cats!"

Wu Qinglan pinched her daughter’s cheek and said helplessly, "Mengshu, can’t you be as quiet as your brother?"

    "Ah!"

    Clearly not.

    Wu Qinglan sighed.

Song Qingyu offered warmly, "There’s still space on the bed. Why not let Mengshu sleep here too?"

"No, Mengshu is too mischievous; she’d probably wake your baby."

Besides, with a bunch of cats around, Mengshu would be too excited to sleep.

    -

Outside the room, Yu Mingze asked Lu Yan, who had suddenly called him, "What’s going on?"

Lu Yan laughed on the other end of the phone, "I just missed you, so I thought I’d call and check in."

    "Stop it!"

Yu Mingze showed a look of disdain on his face, "You must have a reason for calling now. Hurry up and say it—I still have to go back and hold the baby!"

"Alright, we all know you’re a great dad!"

Lu Yan lazily leaned back in his chair, holding the phone, and said, "Liu Feng, the guy who’s getting married, contacted me to find you. He says he wants to meet you."

"He wants to meet me? What for?"

"Maybe it’s about that person? Anyway, he said he wants to get to know you. It’s up to you whether you meet or not."

Lu Yan and Liu Feng weren’t very close. Only because Liu Feng was the one taking over Zheng Anran had Lu Yan paid a little attention to him.

He admitted he was a bit of a spectator, but not towards his brother—rather, towards the woman who had betrayed his brother.

"Ah Ze, are you going? If not, I’ll turn him down for you."

    "Hold on."

Yu Mingze thought for a moment, feeling that things weren’t that simple.

"Three this afternoon, he’ll pick the spot."

"Got it, I’ll let him know."

After hanging up, Yu Mingze saw his mother, Fu Yining, standing in front of him.

He walked over and whispered, "Mom, I’ve got to head out this afternoon."

    "Sure, go ahead."

Fu Yining was looking for her cats, figuring they must be in the baby’s room since she hadn’t spotted them anywhere else.
