Chapter 23: Blocking the Way, Robbing!

The two girls gossiped and spun an entire high school romance novel from the limited information they had, getting more and more excited as they talked.
Meanwhile, the person concerned, Fu Yining, was filled with self-doubt.
Were they really talking about the original "Fu Yining"? She didn't think so.
"Ugh, how wonderful! I'm so envious! Why didn't I have a handsome guy willing to buy me breakfast when I was in high school?" Yuanyuan lamented.
Jia Jia teased her on purpose: "Your school was so strict. Could anyone sneak out to buy breakfast?"
"Ugh, you're right. It's all my school's fault! It ruined my chance to have an epic love story!" Yuanyuan sighed, a look of longing on her face.
"Haha!" Jia Jia laughed loudly. "Are you sure it wasn't because you were caught dating and then publicly reprimanded?"
"Jia Jia, that's too much!"
Yuanyuan pretended to be angry and hit Jia Jia.
"You're actually making fun of me?"
"Sorry, I won't do it again!"
Jia Jia begged for mercy repeatedly, and Yuanyuan finally let her go.
"But speaking of which, I don't think I've ever known what Yu Papa's wife looks like. She must be very pretty, right?"
"Of course, Yu Papa must love his wife very much. Otherwise, how could he have protected her so well?"
"Yeah, you're right!"
The two continued chatting. In their eyes, Yu ZhiLi was someone who kept himself pure. There were almost no negative news about him online.
The only thing people criticized him for might be that he had a child before marriage when he was young, but he took responsibility afterward. As his massive business empire grew, no one dared to openly criticize him.
Over the years, Yu ZhiLi hadn't been involved in any scandals. He could almost be called the epitome of a "good man" and "good husband."
Was it because he hid things well?
Who knows.
But Jia Jia and Yuanyuan preferred to believe that he had never done anything wrong. If he had, with how fast the internet spreads news these days, the "enthusiastic netizens" would have dug it up by now.
Yuanyuan rested her chin on her hand, full of envy.
Jia Jia agreed with both hands raised.
At that moment, Fu Yining, who had been listening in, felt a bit unsettled.
Did Yu ZhiLi love his wife? She wasn't so sure.
And from what they were saying, was "Fu Yining" also a graduate of this school? She had no memory of that.
All she remembered was that "Fu Yining" hadn't done anything to betray Yu ZhiLi, apart from having a bad temper. Yu ZhiLi, on the other hand, had been unnecessarily cold and distant towards her.
Were they really high school classmates? She couldn’t see it at all.
Fu Yining stirred the soy milk in her bowl with a spoon, hoping to hear more details, but the two girls had already moved on to another topic.
Without any more clues, Fu Yining complained, "Since they transported me into this book, why didn't they give me all of 'Fu Yining's' memories?" It was frustrating, and now she was left with a head full of questions and confusion.
She was at a loss for words.
With only half the information, Fu Yining felt uneasy and decided to find a time to investigate further.
After finishing her meal, she got up and headed outside.
As she left the shop, Fu Yining unconsciously found herself wandering to the school next door, which was the Lehe Middle School the two girls had mentioned earlier.
She stood at the school gate and looked inside.
In the campus, several white buildings stood neatly among the lush trees, and in the distance, a circular flower bed was filled with blooming flowers.
Since it was the weekend, Fu Yining didn't see any students walking around.
Standing outside the school gate, she tried to jog her memory, but found no recollection of this place.
Logically speaking, "Fu Yining" had been a student here, so it didn't make sense that she wasn't familiar with it.
Fu Yining was puzzled.
The earliest memory she could trace back was "Fu Yining" lying weakly on a hospital bed after giving birth to the male lead.
As for anything before that—the pain of childbirth, friends, family, or even her own past—she had no idea. Her memories were as blank as a sheet of paper.
This was very strange.
Sometimes, it felt like "Fu Yining's" life had only started after giving birth to the male lead.
Just a plot device!
A security guard patrolling at the school gate noticed Fu Yining standing at the entrance and approached her after observing her for a while.
"Hello, may I ask if you have any business here?"
Fu Yining snapped out of her thoughts and shook her head. "No, I'm just looking around."
"Got it. Are you a parent of one of the students? Here to see a teacher?"
"Um, sort of, but I used to be a student here before."
"I see."
The guard didn’t suspect anything and reminded her, "It's the weekend, so only a few teachers are on duty. Do you know which one you're looking for? I can ask for you."
Fu Yining thought better of it. She didn't remember her teachers' names, and after so many years, they might have already retired.
No need to say more.
So she thanked the guard for his kindness and decided to check this place out again later.
The guard didn't suspect anything and watched her leave, only to find himself more and more convinced that he had seen this beautiful woman somewhere before. Was it just his imagination, or did she resemble someone famous?
Unable to figure it out, the guard scratched his head, still puzzled, and turned to patrol elsewhere.
Fu Yining walked a short distance until she stood on the sidewalk, deciding where to go next.
She had plenty of time before her yoga class. She could wander around for a bit longer.
As she walked, Fu Yining found herself replaying what had just happened.
When the security guard asked her about her teacher, a name was right there, but she froze and couldn’t say it.
It felt like the words were stuck in her throat.
This frustration irked her.
She tried to recall the name as a small, dark shape darted out from the side and blocked her path.
The little creature looked like it was about to ambush her, lifting its head to reveal big, round eyes as it meowed at Fu Yining.
“……?”
Fu Yining looked down, her gaze sweeping over its round head and its tri-colored body of black, white, and yellow, before landing on its furry tail that wagged non-stop. Her heart fluttered along with it.
A long-haired calico kitten, often called a "cat beauty," and so cute!
Judging by its size, it was probably not yet fully grown, but it looked well-fed. Its round body would likely feel very nice to touch.
As Fu Yining observed it, the kitten meowed a few more times. Seeing that this human didn’t crouch down to pet it like others usually did, it rubbed against Fu Yining’s calf.
“Meow meow meow!” Pet me!
The soft, warm sensation came through her clothes, and Fu Yining couldn't help but lift her skirt and squat down.
Kawaii !!
