Chapter 4: The Original Protagonists’ Treacherous Ambush
byChapter 4 The Original Protagonists' Underhanded Ambush
Jian Suiyu's psychic ability is S-rank, and his truth-discernment ability can be applied to all humans and ghosts with lower mental energy than his.
Humans lie, and ghosts are no exception.
The truth-discernment ability helps him quickly choose the correct path to complete the dungeon.
That's why he believed every word Wu Yue said was true, he thought.
Jian Suiyu led his team forward and, sure enough, saw the white streamers Wu Yue had mentioned.
The narrow path was lined with fluttering white streamers, stretching endlessly into the distance as if alive.
Blaze team members:
"Can't believe that girl Wu Yue was actually telling the truth."
"Why would she tell us the shortcut through the dungeon? We’re rivals with Shadow."
"Hell, wasn’t it obvious from how tense things were earlier? She must’ve been ostracized in her own team."
"Damn, these days, ordinary people really have no dignity.
If she were in Blaze, she definitely wouldn’t—"
"Don’t talk nonsense. Doesn't Blaze refuse female members?"
Jian Suiyu suddenly spoke up:
"It’s not that we refuse female members—it’s that we haven’t found the right candidate who fits Blaze’s style."
The team members were stunned.
"Vice-captain, Wu Yue came through for us twice. Could we invite her to join us?"
"Yeah, but Wu Yue doesn’t look interested. She’s probably already left the dungeon by now."
"Wait, if we just leave like this, won’t Shadow go after Wu Yue?"
Jian Suiyu interrupted, "Our only priority right now is that we’re pinned down, and the situation is unfavorable.
We need to pull out all the stops, get the first kill, and leave the dungeon as fast as possible."
"Copy that!"
Under Jian Suiyu’s orders, the Blaze members gave 200%, unleashing deadly accurate firepower.
They were professionally trained—every shot hit its mark.
The sparking rounds struck the fluttering white streamers in the air. Surprisingly, the seemingly soft and fragile strips emitted chilling ghostly screams when hit.
The Blaze members looked at each other—this only proved Wu Yue’s words:
These white streamers were the Doll Boss’s clones!
Jian Suiyu commanded, "Increase firepower, cover each other, and don’t let the Doll Boss get its bearings!"
"Copy that!"
For a moment, the narrow path was consumed by battle.
....
"Oh, I thought you were so capable.
Who knew even throwing yourself at him, Jian Suiyu still wouldn't give you the time of day."
"Yeah, otherwise, why didn't he take you along to secure the first kill?
A toad dreaming of swan flesh—why don’t you take a leak and check your reflection?"
As soon as Jian Suiyu left, Su Mo's friends immediately taunted Wu Yue viciously.
The way Jian Suiyu had defended Wu Yue and their interaction earlier had made them burn with envy. After all, Jian Suiyu was every woman’s crush in this apocalyptic world.
Before Wu Yue, he had never spared a glance for any woman, yet he gave Wu Yue such special treatment.
Even Su Mo, from beginning to end, had never gotten his attention.
How could this not infuriate these women?
Wu Yue had no interest in this catty drama. She had no reason to stick with Blaze—she wasn’t part of their team.
The reason she hadn’t left the dungeon yet was another reason.
The doll in Su Mo’s hands was the Boss’s true form.
Wu Yue worried this wild card would ultimately lead to Jian Suiyu’s tragic death.
What really grossed Wu Yue out was that after Jian Suiyu’s death, his body was possessed by a ghost, which then fell in love with Su Mo.
This ghost, wearing Jian Suiyu’s face, went on a rampage, killing left and right while helping Su Mo undermine Blaze Team—just to power up the leads, completely disregarding the lives of side characters.
In the end, the ghost was killed by Shen Qingci.
Shen Qingci absorbed Jian Suiyu’s ability to discern truth, while Su Mo inherited all of Jian Suiyu’s pre-death equipment. All was sunshine and rainbows between the male and female leads.
Ugh...disgusting!
Losing sucked, but their win was salt in the wound.
As the distant gunfire grew increasingly intense, all hell broke loose.
The doll that Su Mo had been clutching tightly suddenly lunged at an ordinary team member beside her.
"Ah!!"
In the blink of an eye, the member was sucked dry, collapsing to the ground as a dried-up husk.
Standing at a distance, Wu Yue caught it all.
Behind her was the dungeon exit, but as she watched the doll absorb the essence of four or five people amid the screams, it suddenly charged straight down the path Jian Suiyu had taken.
Considering they were busy fighting up front, only to be ambushed by such a powerful Doll Boss from behind—they were screwed.
In the chaos, Wu Yue immediately pursued the Doll Boss without hesitation.
But Shen Qingci grabbed her arm, his face stormy.
"The hell are you doing?"
Without hesitation, Wu Yue drew the dagger hidden at her ankle and thrust at Shen Qingci. Nobody saw coming Wu Yue's sudden attack, and with such ruthlessness.
Shen Qingci's wrist was slashed, and he released his grip.
Under Shen Qingci's gloomy, icy gaze, Wu Yue bolted down the narrow path.
"Qingci! Are you okay?"
Su Mo cried out, her face full of concern.
Shen Qingci curled his lips into a sinister smile and replied, "I'm fine."
But his eyes were dark with barely contained rage, enough to make your blood run cold.
After a long pause, he said with a crooked smile:
"Rally the team. We're going after them!"
...
Chasing after the Doll Boss, Wu Yue drew her peach-wood sword and bit her middle finger, smearing the blood onto the blade.
She rapidly recited an incantation, the complex and lengthy spell rolling off her tongue without the slightest hesitation or pause.
In her past life, Wu Yue—powerless, had worked harder than anyone else just to survive.
She rose before dawn every day to train, swinging her sword countless times.
Even blindfolded, she could strike every vital point with precision.
No matter how intricate or convoluted the spells and incantations, she practiced them until they were second nature, could recite them in her sleep.
Everything—every damn bit of it—was about survival!
She wanted to live!
Her fingertips stained crimson, the blood soaking into the peach-wood sword. The moment the incantation ended, she lashed out at the doll's vulnerable spot.
The Doll Boss, desperate to reach its lair, was caught off guard and knocked aside.
Not giving it a moment to recover, Wu Yue pressed her advantage.
One strike, another, and yet another—each blow landing on the Doll Boss's vital spots.
For a moment, malignant energy dissipated as the Doll Boss, caught between Wu Yue and Jian Suiyu's combined assault, was completely routed.
Just as Wu Yue readied the killing strike, Chen Zhou's sinister voice suddenly cut through the air behind her:
"Captain, talk about perfect timing."
Instantly, Wu Yue's blood ran cold.
