Chapter 110: Wu Yue is Pursued by Experts at the Agricultural Academy
by 不语忧**Chapter 110 – Wu Yue Draws Attention at the Agricultural Academy**
When Wu Yue arrived at the gates of the Agricultural Academy, she found no one in sight. Glancing at the time, she realized she was running late.
After explaining her purpose to the guard at the entrance, she stood there waiting.
Within three minutes—
“Boom!”
A loud bang suddenly echoed from above. Wu Yue looked up in alarm. “What’s going on? Are bandits raiding the city?”
A huge firework burst overhead, followed by a chaotic crackling of countless firecrackers. Swallowed by smoke, Wu Yue’s face twitched as her expression shifted from shock to numbness.
She had a weird feeling this scene was familiar.
Please don’t…
Before she could finish the thought, the firecracker chaos was joined by the blaring melody of *Golden Snake Wild Dance*, accompanied by clanging gongs, crashing cymbals, and even the piercing wail of a suona.
It was a full-on noise assault.
Wu Yue silently covered her ears. If someone handed her a coffin, she’d drop dead on the spot.
Right then, the ground beneath her feet felt like it was burning up.
Even the air she breathed dripped with awkwardness.
She turned tail to leave—but from inside the Agricultural Academy, a lion-dance team slowly emerged.
Looking closer, the lion costumes were worn by two beast-tiger cubs.
The lion opened its mouth, revealing a big chunk of beast-chicken meat dangling inside.
They’d left their mothers so young, not yet grown, and were already put to work.
Wu Yue clenched her jaw. She’d give Zhu Gengyun one last chance.
Three seconds. If he didn’t show up in three seconds, she was out.
Meanwhile, Zhu Gengyun was marveling at his genius, completely absorbed in what he believed was a masterpiece of a welcome.
Hand over heart, swooning, he sighed, “YW’s definitely going to love this.”
His secretary warned, “Boss, you should stop everything now and go get YW before she bolts.”
Zhu brushed it off. “No way! Impossible!”
But before he finished speaking, Wu Yue turned tail and ran.
“Hey!! Don’t run!!! Stop her!!!” His voice screeched in panic.
In the end, the Agricultural Academy had to deploy two hoverpods to block her path. Nearby residents of World City whispered among themselves:
“Who knew the Agricultural Academy would pull out all the stops just to grab someone these days?”
....
"Who knows what crime was committed? This much commotion—must be serious enough for a firing squad."
Zhu Gengyun came barreling after her, gasping for breath. Under Wu Yue’s death-ray glare, he shouted:
"No—she didn’t do anything! It’s my fault!!"
"Ah, we’ve always heard the director of the Agricultural Science Institute is warm-hearted. Seeing it today, it’s true."
"Director, no need to explain. We get it."
A cold glint flashed in Wu Yue’s eyes—like *freaking* laser beams.
*Ding!* You have a new *Kill-Now* order. Please confirm receipt.
Zhu Gengyun’s scalp went numb with panic. He snapped, "You get it? *Get* it? *Get* it?!! It really is me!"
He turned to Wu Yue with puppy-dog eyes. "I just wanted to make you happy."
Wu Yue: "...How could I not be happy? I’m *thrilled*. Absolutely *thrilled*."
Vice Dean Zhang shouldered Zhu Gengyun aside and leaned toward Wu Yue. "Hello, are you the legendary YW—the first to discover Purified Crop seeds? I’m Vice Dean Zhang Zhongtian from the Agricultural Science Institute. Would you do me the honor of engaging in an academic discussion?"
"I’m a senior researcher at the institute. Could you share your discovery process with us?"
"Hello, I’m the administrative director. Would you consider granting us follow-up development rights for Purified Crops?"
All the researchers who had moments ago been sucking up to Yan Wei were now crowding around Wu Yue.
Zhu Gengyun thought, *Hell no!*
YW was his contact first—how could these old vultures steal the spotlight?!
Knuckles white, he barreled into the fray without hesitation.
Yan Wei tried several times to step forward and introduce himself, only to be jostled to the back again.
"What's the matter, Xiao Yan? So young and already forgetting to respect your elders?"
"Pfft. Just a minute ago you were kissing up to him as 'Professor Yan,' now it's 'Xiao Yan.' Who’s the hypocrite here?"
"Elder? You don’t have a single white hair. No shame at all."
"Yeah yeah, *you’re* the one with dignity. If you’ve got any decency, stop mooning me!"
"I’ll moon you all I want! What—you wanna go?"
Zhu Gengyun’s secretary gave an apologetic look to Yan Wei, now pushed to the back. "Sorry, Professor Yan. They're just curious, after all..."
Yan Wei slowly raised a hand. "No need to explain."
The secretary knew someone like Yan Wei—who had soared so high—would surely be pissed at being snubbed.
But then—
Yan Wei took a deep breath, elbowed his way through the crowd, and shoved the old men blocking him aside.
Using youth as his advantage and brute force as backup, he muscled past everyone and finally reached Wu Yue’s side.
The secretary, "...", always felt troubled by how out of place he was among these people.
A shadow suddenly fell before Wu Yue’s eyes. “Hello, I’m Yan Wei, a botanist.”
Wu Yue blinked, watching the people behind her entangled in a chaotic scuffle. A vein throbbed violently at her temple.
Finally breaking free from the encirclement, Zhu Gengyun straightened his half-torn dean’s robe and extended his hand solemnly to Wu Yue:
“Hello, Dean Zhu. I’m Chiyan Wuyue.”
Upon hearing her introduction, the crowd erupted in murmurs:
“The Blaze—the one ranked first in the Alliance’s comprehensive combat assessment?”
“Who could’ve imagined the first to discover Purified Crops would be a combatant!”
“Ah, it seems we’re getting old. The world is changing rapidly. Relying solely on research to find Purified Crops just won’t cut it anymore.”
Seeing the professors fall into gloom,
Wu Yue took out the gifts she’d prepared from her space to console them:
“Though discovering Purified Crops didn’t involve research, to study and expand biodiversity through further research will still require your expertise.
I’m merely an amateur—you professors are the real backbone.
I’ve brought Dean Zhu some mature Purified Crops. I hope you like them.”
Zhu Gengyun grinned ear to ear, happily accepting them. “I do, I really do!”
But his delight left the others scowling.
“Why does he get some and not me?”
“Right, I want some too!”
Faced with these professors acting like kids in a candy store, Wu Yue had no choice but to hand out all her remaining Purified Crops.
Watching them form orderly lines, only to bicker over who got bigger crops,
clutching petite produce with grins from ear to ear—even nuzzling them against their faces—Wu Yue silently looked away.
The secretary observed quietly as Yan Wei queued up to receive a cabbage, then tossed on a hat and lined up again at the end for a potato, even taking a deadpan selfie with his spoils.
He let out a silent, derisive chuckle.
The world had officially lost it.
