Chapter 501: Want to Dance the First Dance with You
by 不语忧Chapter 501 Want to Dance the First Dance with You
After Jian Suiyu left, Shen Que waited for two days but still didn’t receive any message from Wu Yue. Sitting on the sofa, his long fingers kept fidgeting with the communicator.
Jian Suiyu wasn’t replying either—no clue what he’d been up to at the Jiang family!
By the third day, Shen Que finally couldn’t take it anymore and asked Jian Suiyu:
"Shen Que: What have you been doing at the Jiang family all this time?"
*Did he give the ore to Wu Yue or not? If he did, why was there no reaction at all? She wasn’t even looking for him!*
"Jian Suiyu: I’m at the Jiang family preparing for a wedding. Shen Que, haven’t you checked your feeds at all these past two days?"
"Shen Que: Of course, I’ve been updating my information database!"
"Shen Que: A wedding? Whose wedding?"
"Jian Suiyu: Have you not even left the dorm these past two days? At least scroll through your comms, right? Don’t you know the Chiyan Captain is marrying the eldest daughter of the Jiang family?"
Shen Que’s expression looked sheepish—*Going out, checking his comms—he was afraid of coming across any information about Wu Yue. But the Chiyan Captain and the Jiang family’s eldest daughter!*
"Shen Que: Wait, wasn’t I the one engaged to her?"
*Did she think he had amnesia, so the previous engagement didn’t count and she wanted to marry him directly? Wanted to surprise him?*
Shen Que tried to hide a grin. *Well, that could actually work. Then he could forgive her for ignoring him these past few days!*
"Jian Suiyu: I’m the Chiyan Captain now! I’m marrying the Jiang family’s eldest daughter, Jiang Yuhua!
Shen Que, I can’t believe you. Did you really jump to conclusions that fast?!!"
Shen Que instantly closed the chat window. He was smiling a second ago, but not anymore!
He glanced again at Wu Yue’s silent chat window, fuming. *That heartless woman! She really is a heartless woman!!*
*She doesn’t cherish him at all! After doing such intimate things with him, she just ignores him!*
Shen Que was so mad he could explode!
He marched into the combat training room, raised his gun, and was about to fire when some very intimate, almost sensual, scenes suddenly flashed through his mind.
His heart raced, his breathing quickened. Suppressing his emotions, he fired shot after shot, but the clearer those images became.
Almost uncontrollably, Shen Que kept firing relentlessly, just to keep replaying those scenes in his mind.
....
Agitated, he put down the gun and found Richard. "I think there’s something wrong with my memory. Can you take a look?"
Richard immediately got excited. "Are you sure? If I see something private, you can’t get mad and hit me."
Remembering the photos and the scenes in his memory, Shen Que immediately said, "Forget it."
Richard was eager. "I can hypnotize you. Only you will see those memories. We can use your deepest fixations to trigger your memories, but you might recall some painful childhood memories."
Shen Que refused outright and turned to leave.
*He wasn’t going to face the pain and despair of his parents’ death, the humiliation of his childhood, or the hardships he’d endured—all for a heartless woman who didn’t cherish him at all.*
Shen Que stalked off coldly, but after just two steps, his comms suddenly rang. He glanced at it casually and froze dead in his tracks.
"Honey: Thanks for your hard work on the ore."
Shen Que's heartbeat quickened uncontrollably, his whole body tingling as if electrified, and he was all over the place.
Ugh... It took her this long to say it... Where was she all this time!
He stared coldly at the chat interface in silence.
He was way too cool for this; he never replied to such messages.
After waiting a while...
Shen Que was practically drilling holes into his communicator with his stare.
She sent just one message and that's it!? She didn't even ask how his memory recovery was going!?
Shen Que gritted his teeth and quickly sent,
"Shen Que: It's nothing."
After sending, he waited, and waited... and waited...
But nothing came.
....
Shen Que checked his communicator every three minutes, telling himself he was just getting familiar with the memories of the past six months!
He definitely wasn't waiting for that awful woman to message him!!
The communicator rang again. Shen Que looked annoyed—it was all just random people messaging him and adding him as a friend. Delete! Delete! Block! Block!
After a flurry of actions, his finger hovered over Wu Yue's chat window. Steaming mad, he gritted his teeth, just about to delete her too when—
"Honey: Has your body fully recovered?"
Shen Que's expression froze abruptly. He read the message over and over three times, then, aloof and reserved, deliberately waited three minutes before replying,
"Shen Que: Mm-hmm."
"Honey: How are you adapting to the environment after losing your memory?"
"Shen Que: Not bad."
After waiting a long while with no further messages from Wu Yue, his communicator screen dimmed and lit up several times. Annoyed, he let out a frustrated puff of air, causing the white hair on his forehead to flutter wildly.
....
Two days later, Jian Suiyu finally returned to the Blaze base and found that Shen Que had finally reached a somewhat calm state.
"Relatively calm" meant that as long as Wu Yue wasn't mentioned, he could adapt to his amnesia, successfully come to terms with the events of the past six months, and communicate like a normal person.
Jian Suiyu, "I've already given the ore to Wu Yue."
Shen Que's expression was indifferent. "Oh."
Jian Suiyu raised an eyebrow. Not bad, this guy—he's really moved on.
Jian Suiyu had to test just how far he'd moved on, to make sure he wasn't actually completely over it—or else we’d have a real problem.
Jian Suiyu, "I'm getting married. Be my best man."
Shen Que, "I'm already married. How can I be your best man?"
Jian Suiyu, "...God, that's so cringey. So he's just putting on a cold face while playing the 'whipped husband' trope!"
Shen Que had already taken for granted his relationship with Wu Yue. Wu Yue ignored him, and he stopped bringing it up, but as long as he was alive and held the position of the "main spouse," everyone else would forever be "concubines"!
Jian Suiyu, "The bridesmaid is Wu Yue."
Shen Que’s cold expression nearly faltered, "She’s already married to me. How dare she even try to be a bridesmaid!"
Jian Suiyu was fed up, "...Shen Que, are you okay? If you’ve already fallen into her, just go find her."
Shen Que, "I don’t like her!"
He had his pride too! He was going to wait for her to come to him! After all, he was the one who lost his memory!
Jian Suiyu, "...Well, sure, keep it up then. I'm rooting for you."
...
Wu Yue’s eyes kept rereading the messages Shen Que had sent her, sighing, "So ice-cold and distant. I don’t even know what to say.
Jian Suiyu said he’s already smitten—is that true? This doesn’t look like someone who’s smitten at all.
If things keep going at this pace, it’ll take at least a year or two to get back to a normal relationship..."
Just as she was thinking this, her communicator suddenly pinged:
"Shen Que: You’re going to be a bridesmaid?"
"Shen Que: Are you feeling better now?"
Seeing Shen Que’s two question marks in a row, Wu Yue couldn’t help but smirk, already picturing his dark, sulking expression.
So all that aloofness and coldness was just him pouting and being mad at her?
Wu Yue’s eyes curved into a smile,
"Wu Yue: I’m feeling much better."
She didn’t reply to the bridesmaid question, only asking:
"Wu Yue: Will you come to the wedding?"
Shen Que regretted sending the messages the moment they went out—he kicked himself, he was too eager! He was way too eager!
Seeing that Wu Yue didn’t answer the bridesmaid question and only said she was feeling better, wasn’t it pretty obvious she was planning to be the bridesmaid?!
The more Shen Que thought about it, the angrier he got,
"Shen Que: Not going."
After sending it, he directly powered down his communicator and tossed it aside.
Wu Yue could already imagine Shen Que’s cold, angry face from his reply—it was adorably cute.
There’s no way Shen Que would miss Jian Suiyu’s wedding. He’s just sulking with her.
"Sweetheart: You’re really not coming?"
Shen Que stared at his communicator, gritted his teeth, and didn’t reply.
"Sweetheart: Come on, otherwise who’ll I dance the opening dance with?"
Shen Que pursed his lips.
"Shen Que: I'll think about it."
Seeing Shen Que's reply, Wu Yue couldn't help but smile, pursing her lips.
—
Shen Que was eating in the cafeteria when his communicator vibrated. He immediately pulled it out.
"Babe: So, what've you decided?"
He tried to play it cool for a moment, pressed his lips together, and put it back in his pocket.
Then he pulled it out again for another look, a barely-contained grin on his face.
Richard leaned over, "—What's with that face? Who texted you?"
He had to check—please tell me it's not another girl!
Shen Que immediately shoved the communicator back into his pocket. "What face?" He put on a straight face, picked up his tray, and walked away.
As soon as Shen Que left, Jian Suiyu said, "Just ignore him. It's definitely Wu Yue texting him."
Richard, "—Getting all giddy over a text? What is he even pretending for?"
Fu Yanqi, "Men need to play hard to get, you know how guys are."
Richard, "—He's being extra for no reason."
Back in the dorm, Shen Que immediately pulled out his communicator.
"Shen Que: I'll go."
"Wu Yue: Are you busy?"
"Shen Que: Not busy."
After waiting a while with no reply,
"Shen Que: I was just in the cafeteria."
Wu Yue's lips tugged into a smile.
"Wu Yue: So you'll dance with me then?"
"Shen Que: Let me think."
"Wu Yue: Will you dance with anyone else?"
After sending it, Wu Yue felt the question was a little too much. She was about to unsend it, but this time Shen Que replied surprisingly fast.
"Shen Que: No one else."
Wu Yue couldn't help but laugh. Her usually pale face lit up with joy.
"Wu Yue: I'll be waiting."
Shen Que's heart hammered in his chest, feeling as though it might leap out of his throat.
After hesitating for a long time, Shen Que asked again,
"Shen Que: Will you be the bridesmaid?"
"Wu Yue: I’ve already married you, so I can’t be the bridesmaid."
Shen Que couldn’t suppress the smile at the corner of his mouth, reading the message again and again.
His heart was racing so fast he couldn't calm it down, feeling like it was about to jump out of his throat.
Shen Que paced back and forth in his room, typing and then deleting messages in the chat box, his mind too jumbled to form coherent thoughts. As the seconds ticked by…
"Wu Yue: Shen Que, even if you lost your memory, would you still want to be with me?"
Shen Que abruptly stopped in his tracks.
She finally asked him!
…
In the dead of night
Richard’s door was pounded with loud bangs.
Richard, who had just been about to sleep, opened the door with a puzzled look. "What’s up?"
Shen Que, "Hypnotize me."
Richard thought it was strange, "Didn’t you refuse before?"
Shen Que, "Never mind that, just hypnotize me."
Richard asked, curious, "Are you and Wu Yue back together?"
Shen Que, "No."
Richard, "...If not, why are you suddenly willing to be hypnotized?"
Shen Que held back but couldn't contain a smug grin, "She asked if I still want to be with her."
Richard, "...Look at you, Wu Yue sends you one message from afar, she throws out a basic move and you go all-in like an idiot..."
After getting punched twice with loud bangs, Richard finally kept his mouth shut.
…
Jian Suiyu and Jiang Yuhua’s wedding banquet was officially held at the Jiang family’s estate.
Considering the Jiang family’s status as a conglomerate and Jiang Yuhua’s upcoming takeover of Sirius, the wedding banquet was first held at the Jiang residence, with another to follow at Blaze.
Shen Que, dressed in a white shirt and black pants, arrived at the venue and noticed that the bridesmaid standing beside Jiang Yuhua wasn’t Wu Yue, but rather Chun Ya, Xiya, Su Mo, and two female team members from Sirius. His expression softened considerably.
However, throughout the entire wedding preparations, Shen Que never saw Wu Yue show up.
The previous engagement banquet between the Jiang and Li families had been absurd and chaotic, but now everything was finally back on the right track.
This time, Jiang Yuhua, arm in arm with Jiang Li, walked toward Jian Suiyu with a sweet smile.
Jian Suiyu’s eyes curved gently, his gaze deep and tender.
During the ring exchange, Wu Yue finally appeared in her formal dress and handed the ring to Jiang Yuhua.
With Richard officiating, the two made solemn promises and exchanged rings.
And finally, the groom was able to formally kiss his bride.
Wu Yue stood by, smiling, noticing the constant gaze that had been fixed on her since she appeared. She turned her head and looked toward Shen Que.
The moment their eyes met, Shen Que looked away.
He was still angry with her—unless she came over to him now, he wouldn't give her the time of day!
However, things didn't go his way; as soon as Wu Yue stepped down from the stage, several people approached her, trying to chat her up.
As the host announced the opening dance, Shen Que watched Wu Yue, surrounded by the crowd, his expression clouded over. Just as he was about to look away,
he suddenly heard, "Shen Que."
Shen Que instantly turned his head, meeting Wu Yue's gaze. He clenched his jaw but stayed put.
Seeing his cold look, Wu Yue knew he was giving her the silent treatment because she hadn't gone to see him for so many days.
People around her kept inviting her to dance, and Wu Yue was getting impatient.
She called out again, "Shen Que, get over here."
If he didn't come over now, she would get angry.
This time, Shen Que finally made his way over to her.
Their relationship was well-known to everyone, so as soon as Shen Que approached, the people around them reluctantly backed off.
Wu Yue looked up at Shen Que. "Invite me to dance."
Shen Que looked away. "I won't dance with you." He was still angry with her.
Wu Yue narrowed her eyes. "You're my husband. If you don't dance with me, who are you going to dance with?"
Shen Que said pointedly, "I'll dance with someone else."
Wu Yue's expression grew more threatening. "You said yourself you wouldn't dance with anyone else. Let's see who you dare ask to dance today."
Shen Que pursed his lips. "None of your business."
Wu Yue smiled. "Fine. You'll be sorry."
She turned to leave, but Shen Que acted before he thought—he grabbed her and pulled her onto the dance floor.
Shen Que took her waist, their hands intertwined. Wu Yue looked up at him. "How much of your memory have you recovered?"
Shen Que, "Not telling."
She didn't care about him at all—she only wanted to know if he had regained his memories!
All she could think about was the person who had gone through hardships with her—it wasn't him at all!
Wu Yue wanted to laugh at Shen Que's cold expression. It was clear he was jealous of himself again.
After seven days of rest, she was finally able to get out of bed. At that moment, Wu Yue let out a short, pained breath.
Wu Yue slumped against Shen Que, feeling him instantly tense up and start to pull away.
Wu Yue said softly, "I'm tired. If you don’t want to, just let go."
Shen Que paused, glanced down at Wu Yue, then leaned back slightly and tightened his arms around her to let her rest more comfortably against him.
As the music ended, Wu Yue let go, her strength spent, and prepared to leave.
Shen Que looked at Wu Yue, held his tongue for a moment, but finally couldn’t resist asking, "Don’t you have anything to say to me?"
Wu Yue turned to look at him. Faced with Shen Que’s expectant gaze, she finally relented: "You look... very handsome today."
Shen Que kept his cool and nodded.
Seeing Shen Que’s expectant gaze again, Wu Yue couldn’t help but laugh:
"Very handsome. I really like it. That’s why, as soon as I could get out of bed today, I wanted to dance the opening dance with you."
Her eyes swept over Shen Que’s instantly reddened ears and the back of his neck. Wu Yue's corners of her mouth twitched into a smile and she turned to leave.
