Chapter 253: You Really Are a Simp
by 不语忧Chapter 253 You're Really... Such a Simp
Jian Suiyu blinked repeatedly, speechless for a long while.
After a long pause,
He, "Whoa, I always thought you hadn't figured it out yet.
Since you’re clear about your feelings, why do you shut it down every time someone brings it up? Why not just tell Wu Yue directly?"
Shen Que averted his gaze, "Of course, you have to be careful with someone you like. This is a serious matter.
It shouldn’t be confirmed amid peer pressure. We should spend time together, understand each other’s feelings, and then express them properly.
If I just admitted it because you all were egging us on, wouldn’t Wu Yue’s position in that chaotic situation be like cornered prey?
I’m Blaze’s captain, and she’s a member of Blaze. Speaking recklessly would only make things awkward for her.
Before this, I couldn’t even spend proper time with her because of the Royal Court’s pursuit. I want to stay by her side first, let things develop naturally, and confess when the time is right.
She’s troubled by her origins right now. If I make a move at this moment, wouldn’t that be kicking her while she’s down?"
Jian Suiyu raised an eyebrow, "So you chose to hog the awkwardness yourself while taking it out on others.
According to the reports I’m getting, in the past half-month, you’ve destroyed at least three of the team’s simulation fighters, and the glass walls of the dojo have been completely replaced twice.
The team members are suffering—every day is a beatdown session, and the combat class has been voted Blaze’s ninth circle of hell.
Not to mention all the equipment and props, big and small. You’ve even shattered the cafeteria’s bowls and chopsticks.
I originally thought you were just overly excited because of your youth, but now it seems you were just venting your frustration after being rejected by Wu Yue.
Pay up those damage points, Captain—Blaze’s fearless leader? Now you can’t use the excuse of ‘just being too strong’ to dodge paying for the damages."
Shen Que grudgingly wired the points, "I’m leaving."
Jian Suiyu, "Off to wreck the gym again? If you’re really that frustrated, you can just hit yourself. Stop wrecking the team’s public property."
Shen Que shook his head, "No, I’m going to check on Wu Yue.
She just snapped at me, and Shang Baiyi told me she left crying, a mess."
Jian Suiyu looked at Shen Que’s barely suppressed grin, "You can just smile openly. That smirk of yours is unsettling.
And I absolutely refuse to believe Wu Yue’s emotions were as exaggerated as Shang Baiyi made them out to be."
Shen Que sniffed haughtily, "Tch, your jealousy is ugly."
Jian Suiyu, "...God, you’re insufferable."
Jian Suiyu, "Honestly, Shen Que, all this rambling of yours just boils down to one thing—you’re afraid that if you confess to Wu Yue in her current state, she’ll reject you.
No wonder you freeze up every time someone teases you about it. You’ve kept it from her for so long because you’re scared she’ll run away, and then you’ll go feral and scare her when your mask slips.
Stop pretending, kid. You’re just plain chicken."
Shen Que, "..."
Jian Suiyu, "You’re practically bout to explode, about to snap. You’re absolutely down bad for Wu Yue, aren’t you?"
Shen Que's expression shattered instantly, he gritted his teeth, "Jian Suiyu, shut your mouth."
Seeing Shen Que about to leave, as if something occurred to him, Jian Suiyu suddenly spoke up, "Wait."
Shen Que turned back, "Yeah?"
....
Shen Que took a nervous deep breath and gently knocked on Wu Yue's door.
A voice came from inside, "Who is it?"
Shen Que didn't answer and knocked again.
After a while, Wu Yue opened the door. When she saw Shen Que, her eyes flickered briefly.
"Captain, I think I made myself perfectly clear just now."
Shen Que nodded, "Yes, I came to discuss the Jiang family reunion with you. What are your thoughts?"
As he spoke, he suddenly shrugged.
Wu Yue was lost in thought, clenching her fists as she announced her decision:
"Captain, I've decided to return to the Jiang family."
Shen Que winced, "Didn't you say you'd never leave Blaze?"
Wu Yue nodded, "Yes, I did say that, but I've changed my mind.
Seeing how wealthy, powerful the Jiang family is, how strong my siblings are, and how much they clearly want me, I've decided to return to my birth family."
Wu Yue looked straight at Shen Que, enunciating each word:
"Actually, I've always been a calculating and opportunistic person. The only reason I agreed to join Blaze in the first place was because it's the Alliance's premier team, which could offer me better opportunities.
But even Blaze's influence pales in comparison to the Jiang family. Since they're so eager to have me back, naturally I'd choose the better option.
As for our 'fated partner' bond—that was just me selfishly wanting to exploit your combat strength to help retrieve my mother's ghost from the Order Realm.
I'm sorry, Captain, for betraying your expectations. I'm just this despicable and shameless."
Shen Que stared at Wu Yue, stepping closer until he had her backed against the doorframe.
"Wu Yue, do you really feel nothing for me beyond being teammates?"
Wu Yue met his gaze unflinchingly, her tone resolute, "Nothing. Absolutely nothing."
Shen Que's wounded eyes locked onto Wu Yue's, like a child helpless against the blow without any means to retaliate.
Unable to maintain eye contact, Wu Yue averted her gaze and turned to enter her room.
The door slammed shut. Wu Yue's hands trembled violently as she leaned against the door, slowly sliding down to the floor.
Shen Que pressed his back against Wu Yue's door, standing silently in the cold emptiness.
Suddenly,
he shrugged again.
After one last deep look at the door, Shen Que turned and scurried off, darting into his own room before quietly closing the door behind him.
He scrambled to pull Zhenzhen out from the hood of his combat suit, "Zhenzhen! You're practically dripping drool!!"
Zhenzhen looked drunk with desire, its entire flower head covered in open spikes, blooming wildly as it uncontrollably leaned toward Wu Yue.
"Yue Yue smells delicious, I really want to eat Yue Yue."
Shen Que punched Zhenzhen right on the head, "Just try and see what happens!"
Jian Suiyu was already crouched in the room—Zhenzhen couldn't stray too far from its master, or it loses most of its powers.
Shen Que tossed Zhenzhen into Jian Suiyu's hands and immediately asked:
"Was the last thing Wu Yue said true or false?"
Zhenzhen, "False. Zhenzhen almost couldn't resist eating Yue Yue."
Jian Suiyu, "What was the last thing she said?"
Shen Que, grinning sheepishly, "I asked her if she really had no feelings for me at all."
Jian Suiyu, "...So after all that talking, you only cared about the last sentence?"
Shen Que nodded, "Yeah."
Jian Suiyu, "Don’t you want to know if everything else she said was true or false?"
Shen Que replied bluntly, "I don’t care. I don’t care why Wu Yue joined Blaze, or if she’s opportunistic or materialistic. I don’t even care why she didn’t sever the 'predestined tie' back then."
Jian Suiyu, "Shen Que..."
Shen Que, puzzled, "What?"
Jian Suiyu held back, but ultimately couldn’t resist,
"God damn it! You really are... down bad."
"Thwack!"
Zhenzhen suddenly opened its mouth to bite Shen Que, but he clamped its mouth shut and tossed it aside.
Shen Que, "I’m going to this mixer!"
Jian Suiyu raised an eyebrow, "Are you sure? Based on the confirmed guest list, multiple Royal Court reps will be there.
The Royal Court is on the decline now—they won’t miss this chance to curry favor with the Jiang family.
You just crossed the Jiangs. If you’re surrounded by enemies and Wu Yue just watches coldly, don’t go berserk in front of everyone."
Shen Que sneered, "Those Royal Court jokers—if they so much as twitch, I’ll just kill them.
As for the Jiangs, so be it. As long as they treat Wu Yue sincerely, I couldn't care less about myself."
If the Jiangs hadn’t been genuine, Shen Que would've never taken their hits in the Blaze base without fighting back.
Jian Suiyu choked on his words, "You really are..."
Shen Que glared, "Call me that again, I dare you."
Jian Suiyu scooped up Zhenzhen and quickly left, ducking the flying cup Shen Que hurled at him.
After leaving Shen Que's room, Jian Suiyu looked toward Wu Yue's room.
"Knock, knock, knock."
He knocked on Wu Yue's door.
No response, so he knocked again—"Knock, knock, knock."
Wu Yue, "Captain, please don’t come again."
Jian Suiyu, "Wu Yue, it's me—Jian Suiyu."
....
Wu Yue opened the door, "Deputy Captain, what brings you here?"
Jian Suiyu gave a warm smile, "Wu Yue, got a minute to talk?"
Wu Yue hesitated briefly.
"Sure."
