Chapter 59: The Arcane Arts Prodigy of the Era, Fu Yanqi
by 不语忧Chapter 59: Modern Prodigy of Arcane Arts, Fu Yanqi
Yi Na's target was clear: she walked straight toward Wu Yue.
Having witnessed the beast's vanishing firsthand, she dared not act rashly, yet the greed in her eyes flared brighter.
After studying Yi Na's face for a while, Jian Suiyu found her somewhat familiar.
"She looks familiar."
Richard said, "Yi Na—an S-tier psychic with healing powers. She was taken from the orphanage at the age of 12 when her abilities were first discovered and brought into the Huo family, one of the Four Great Clans, for rigorous secluded training.
Later, at the age of 18, she pulled far ahead in a jaw-dropping performance during the psychic ability assessment. The Huo family held a grand coming-of-age ceremony for her, and the family head took her in as his adopted daughter. Shortly after, she was formally engaged to Fu Mingli, the eldest son of the foremost of the Four Great Clans—the Fu family.
Aside from her abilities, Yi Na is also a renowned beauty in this ruined world, second only to Su Mo of the Shadows."
Jian Suiyu raised an eyebrow. "You dug into her past?"
Richard nodded. After the first simulation, he had looked into Yi Na’s background.
Richard added, "In the first simulation, Wu Yue showed extreme hostility toward Yi Na.
You all came in late and didn’t see it, but at the very start of the simulation, Wu Yue decapitated Yi Na.
She lopped the head clean off, and a beast crushed it."
As soon as he finished speaking, the group saw a shadowy ring appear in Yi Na’s hand.
Jie Chen frowned instantly. "Something’s off about that ring. Didn’t you just say her ability was healing?"
Richard nodded, staring at the dark halo. Suddenly, he remembered. "This shadowy ring uncannily resembles the dark aura emitted by the vampire contract I encountered before!
This Yi Na might have struck a deal with a demon."
The shadowy ring in Yi Na’s hand grew larger and larger, her gaze black and seething, her target unmistakably the psychic core in Wu Yue’s mind.
Jie Chen said urgently, "Isn’t there anything else we can do?!
If Yi Na takes Wu Yue’s psychic core in this state, won’t her mind be trapped forever in the depths of her subconscious?!"
Richard seethed with frustration—this was the first time he had ever felt so helpless.
He deeply regretted his earlier arrogance. In fact, he never should’ve let Wu Yue dive back into this memory!
Jian Suiyu’s gaze remained locked on the holographic projection, not blinking for a second.
Then—
He suddenly turned and rushed to Wu Yue’s side, whispering into her ear.
He kept repeating, "Wu Yue, wake up.
Don’t you dare die like this.
Wouldn’t everything you’ve fought for mean nothing?!
As Yi Na drew closer and closer to the psychic core in Wu Yue’s mind—
Her dark-infused hands were just about to touch Wu Yue when— The world drowned in sudden crimson.
This was a pool of blood-red liquid, with the sound of red blood rushing in their ears.
All three present widened their eyes in disbelief, staring at each other in shock.
Jie Chen, "What the hell is going on?"
Richard suddenly raised his voice, "Look!!"
In the moment Yi Na froze in shock, Wu Yue was completely swallowed by blood-red energy.
The glow of the silver-white crystal core was entirely smothered, leaving only a blood-red glow pulsing in the pitch-black night.
Under the illumination of the blood-red light, Yi Na screamed in agony.
Her entire body was melting, and if not for the sustaining dark energy, she would have already melted into a bloody puddle.
As the silver-white crystal core's light was entirely suppressed and smothered by the crimson aura, Wu Yue's collapsed skull and eyes began repairing themselves at a horrifying, unnatural speed.
Her skull reconstructed itself, and the moment Wu Yue opened her eyes,
a red gleam flashed in them—her originally dark pupils now shone like gleaming blood-red gems, as rare and magnificent as a legendary treasure.
Even these most powerful warriors found themselves forced to look away from such a gaze.
The red light faded, and Wu Yue crumpled to the floor.
Silence returned to the room, giving Yi Na a chance to catch her breath.
Twisted in dark, grotesque shapes, she barely managed to regain her human form with the help of the dark energy.
Her eyes burned with venomous hatred as she glared at Wu Yue, wanting to rip her apart limb by limb.
She spat venomously:
"What the hell was that?!"
"What kind of freakish power did this to me?!"
"Wu Yue, you worthless gutter rat—how dare you stand out like this?!"
*Over here! There are survivors!!*
Yi Na whipped her head toward the sound of voices. Glancing at Wu Yue, still dazed and disoriented, she forcefully suppressed the malice surging in her eyes and let out a pitiful whimper:
*Help!*
"Yi Na... are you alright?"
"Wu Yue—how is Wu Yue here? I thought she was injured!"
"The mutated creatures—where are they?"
Yi Na slowly released her healing ability into her hands, forcing a weak cough:
"I-I think I've awakened a group healing ability. The mutated creatures fled from me.
Wu Yue also received my treatment." She lied. "Oh, right—Wu Yue, someone check her. Is she okay?"
"Holy shit!! A group healing ability?! Yi Na, you're incredible!!!"
"Exactly!! I'll get the teacher to examine you immediately."
Yi Na bit her lip and asked, "But what about Wu Yue..."
"Who cares about Wu Yue!! She's just an ordinary person. If it weren't for you today, she'd be dead already!!"
"She's so lucky—an ordinary person getting healing from a psychic? How crazy is that?!"
Surrounded by the crowd, Yi Na was ushered away. As she left, she cast a seemingly concerned glance back at Wu Yue lying on the ground, flashing a snake-like, venomous smile.
Jie Chen punched through the wall of the psychic training chamber, his rage nearly blinding him.
"I'm going to kill that damn two-faced bitch Yi Na right now."
Jian Suiyu massaged his temples. "Wu Yue is still unconscious."
Jie Chen turned on Richard. "You tell me what we should do now!"
Richard frowned. "Normally, Wu Yue should wake up on her own. Why hasn't she regained consciousness even though this memory sequence has ended?"
Jian Suiyu added, "Have any of you considered what that red light was just now?"
Richard and Jie Chen stopped cold. "Red light?"
Jian Suiyu nodded. "Yes, the red light—the one that completely encased Wu Yue's psychic core. In fact, I suspect that Wu Yue's current state—having no detectable psychic core yet still being able to use psychic powers—is intimately connected to that red light."
Jie Chen recalled the scene. "Now that you mention it, it does look like something from the Arcane Arts... a seal."
Arcane Arts. Seal.
Jian Suiyu's expression darkened.
"It seems I need to recall Fu Yanqi immediately."
"Fu Yanqi? Who is that?"
Jian Suiyu explained, "Among the Four Great Families, the Fu Clan stands at the forefront. They possess a heritage spanning millennia and were the true Taoist lineage even before the apocalypse. When the apocalypse struck, they charged into battle at the frontlines, facing the supernatural horrors head-on, losing nearly their entire clan for humanity's sake.
For the past 18 years of the apocalypse, no matter how the Four Great Families changed, the Fu Clan's leadership has never wavered.
Fu Yanqi is the most senior Taoist descendant of this generation in the Fu Clan, a prodigy of the Arcane Arts. To this day, no one has surpassed him."
As he finished speaking, Jian Suiyu suddenly felt something was wrong. He turned sharply—
Only to see Wu Yue, who had been lying there lifeless just moments ago, nodding repeatedly.
"Oh, so that's how it is."
Facing their stunned expressions, Wu Yue blinked in confusion.
"Huh? What's wrong with you guys? Is there something on my face?"
