Chapter 174 Wu Yue Recognizes Fu Yixue and Zhou Qianfeng
by 不语忧Chapter 174: Wu Yue Recognizes Fu Yixue and Zhou Qianfeng
Fu Yixue snuck glances at Wu Yue but quickly looked away when caught.
After a while, she couldn’t help but ask, "How did you figure it out?"
Wu Yue replied, "Honestly, you guys made it pretty obvious."
Fu Yixue blinked, "Us?"
Wu Yue nodded, "Back when I went to World City, suddenly a bunch of people started giving me bread and clothes.
Then, when I pissed off the nobles there, the guards just let me go.
And you, Master Fu, actually let me into this sky pavilion.
This place is clearly a replica you made to remember someone. There’s no way you’d let me in just because Fu Yanqi’s guesthouse got zapped by lightning and needed rebuilding, right?"
Fu Yixue frowned, "Pissed off the nobles? What happened? Who dared bully you?
What the hell was Zhou Qianfeng doing? How dare he let the guards arrest you!! That incompetent idiot!"
Wu Yue, "..." So that’s what you’re hung up on?!
Also, Zhou Qianfeng—as in Zhou Qianfeng, the Secretary-General of the Alliance??
Wu Yue had her suspicions before, but now it clicked—she was sure: it was Zhou Qianfeng who ordered those fox and weasel spirits to let her go!!
Holy crap, she just caused a bit of trouble at a bar.
And the Secretary-General of the Alliance was the one mopping up her mess?!
Seeing Wu Yue’s stunned and flustered expression, Fu Yixue casually remarked,
"Don’t sweat it. That’s the least he could do.
If it weren’t for your mother, Zhou Qianfeng wouldn’t even be alive, let alone sitting in his current position.
Hell, you could say it was your mother’s supporters who propelled him all the way to becoming the Alliance’s Secretary-General.
He swore on his life to uphold his principles—a united world."
Wu Yue still felt weird about it, "If I ever get the chance to meet Secretary-General Zhou, I’ll thank him in person."
Though she wasn’t sure if someone of his status would even know who she was.
Fu Yixue had never liked Zhou Qianfeng and would’ve cheered if he dropped dead.
But now, with what was coming down the pipeline, she whipped out her communicator without hesitation.
"Why wait? Let’s rip the band-aid off."
Before Wu Yue could blink, Fu Yixue initiated a video call with Zhou Qianfeng.
"Beep—beep—"
The dial tone sent Wu Yue’s heart into her throat. Her whole body was freaking out, though she had no idea what to do.
Fu Yixue shoved the communicator straight at her, and the room offered not a single damn place to hide!!
"What's the matter? Didn't I already send all the documents... Wu Yue?"
Zhou Qianfeng had just finished his work when his communicator buzzed. He answered without hesitation.
After just two words, he saw Wu Yue standing on the other end of the video. His voice rose in disbelief.
In the shadows, the five elders craned their necks, perking their ears.
The secretary, well-trained, immediately drew the curtains, cutting off all external signals, then turned and stood guard at the door—
while also subtly leaning in, stretching his neck, and pricking up his ears.
Wu Yue fidgeted under the camera’s gaze, wanting to flee but unable to move.
She forced a dutiful, plastered-on smile, bowed respectfully, and said, "Hello, Secretary-General Zhou. I’m Wu Yue."
Fu Yixue hauled her up by the arm. "Why are you bowing to him? Save the bows for his funeral."
Zhou Qianfeng scorched Fu Yixue with a look before sitting primly with a warm smile.
"No need to call me Secretary-General Zhou. Just call me Grandpa Zhou."
"By seniority, even your mother would call me Uncle Zhou."
His face brimmed with expectation, his peach-blossom eyes crinkling like blooming petals.
Wu Yue’s expression froze. Zhou Qianfeng, youthful for his age, looked no older than his early thirties.
Dressed formally with those narrow, charming eyes, he could pass for Jie Chen’s kid brother at first glance—yet he wanted her to call him *grandpa*?
Was she *really* stuck playing granddaughter...?
Fu Yixue sneered. "I’ve never seen someone with such nerve. *Grandpa*? Say that to her face and see what happens."
Zhou Qianfeng smiled. "If she knew you were so obsessed that you made a *shrine* out of her room, let’s see if she doesn’t *end* you."
Fu Yixue faltered. "This isn’t obsession!! It’s admiration!! A fan’s love for their idol!!"
Zhou Qianfeng scoffed. "Obsessed. Don’t think I don’t know you collect all this stuff and every few days you’re over there *using* them—"
*Bzzt-bzzt-bzzt-bzzt—*
Fu Yixue decisively killed the connection. She smiled at Wu Yue. "Secretary-General Zhou has urgent matters to attend to."
*Bzzt—bzzt—*
Wu Yue pointed at Fu Yixue’s vibrating communicator. "But it seems Secretary-General Zhou is calling again."
Expressionless, Fu Yixue blocked, deleted, and nuked him from orbit.
Fu Yixue: "He’ll never get through again in this lifetime."
Wu Yue and Fu Yixue held a staring contest for three beats before nodding. "...Fine."
A thick silence settled in the room.
After a beat, Wu Yue suddenly blurted out:
"Daoist Master Fu, who exactly is my mother?
And why did I end up in the orphanage?"
Fu Yixue nervously pressed her dry lips together,
"Wu Yue, I'm unsure whether I should tell you these things.
In fact, how you ended up in the orphanage, why your identity records were falsified—Zhou Qianfeng and I still haven’t found the slightest clue.
So, to protect your safety as much as possible, we both agree that letting you continue your current life, keeping things as they are, is the safest option."
Wu Yue nodded,
"I see."
Fu Yixue cautiously watched Wu Yue’s face,
"Zhou Qianfeng and I have never stopped investigating, but after all these years, the devastation the Terror Incursion wrought on civilization was permanent.
We never gave up searching for you, searching for the truth from that time.
Wu Yue, in truth, you reached us first.
It was your light that drew our eyes, it was you who cut through every obstacle to finally reach us."
Fu Yixue took a deep breath,
"I’m sorry, Wu Yue. I can’t be the one to tell you your mother’s identity.
I’ve failed all these years.
I’ve broken the vows I once made at her graveside, before the tombs of our ancestors—to restore our sect, to remain steadfast in my faith.
I’ve failed her, failed the sect, failed the shifus, uncles, and martial siblings who perished."
Once she resolved the troubles within and outside the sect—if she was still alive—
then she would look you in the eye and say to Wu Yue,
your mother’s name!!
"Beep—beep—"
An unfamiliar number suddenly flashed on Fu Yixue’s communicator. She lowered her gaze and answered.
Zhou Qianfeng’s furious voice crackled from the other end, "Fu Yixue, why’d you ignore my calls?! Did you block me?! Are you badmouthing me to Wu Yue?!"
Fu Yixue replied, "Wu Yue asked me for her mother’s name.
You tell her."
"Beep—beep—beep—beep—"
Zhou Qianfeng’s face stiffened, and without hesitation, he hung up.
