Chapter 65: Rich Mother, Poor Son

"Dad, what are you thinking?"
"Song Qingyu, and the woman outside," Yu Zhili said sharply, "Don’t tell me you’re trying to have both."
Yu Mingze shook his head without thinking.
An Ran was his true love, and he had no intention of betraying her, but Song Qingyu was carrying his child, and he couldn’t just ignore that.
Yu Mingze felt like he was standing at a crossroads, confused and unsure, not knowing which path to choose or which one was the right one...
The conversation between father and son was strained. Under his father’s intense gaze, Yu Mingze couldn’t articulate his thoughts or even give a clear answer to himself.
In the following days, Yu Mingze didn’t come home again.
Zheng Anran, frustrated by his absence, was growing increasingly upset with him. Yu Mingze had to hurry to calm her down. After wrestling with his thoughts, he decided to avoid the situation, moving out to escape his family’s questioning.
"Mingze, what’s wrong?"
"Nothing."
"Really? You seem troubled. Want to talk about it?"
"It’s nothing, just a small issue. I can handle it. Try this—it’s really good!"
Yu Mingze said it was nothing, but Zheng Anran didn’t believe him.
During their meals together, Zheng Anran always noticed Yu Mingze zoning out, his heart no longer fully on her.
More importantly, Yu Mingze didn’t mention anything about his family, including the divorce, which was Zheng Anran’s biggest concern.
Her mother, Fang Fei, hadn’t been able to meet with Fu Yining recently to get any useful information, which made both of them anxious.
Especially seeing Yu Mingze space out in front of her, Zheng Anran suddenly felt a great sense of crisis. She believed that the reason a man would change so drastically must be because of another woman.
Zheng Anran never doubted her charm and guessed that Yu Mingze must have been tempted by some bad woman outside.
So who could it be? A woman she didn’t know, or perhaps, Song Qingyu?
The more she thought about it, the more her anxiety grew, wishing she could press Yu Mingze for answers until she got to the bottom of it.
Lost in their own thoughts, neither of them enjoyed the meal.
When it was time to pay, Yu Mingze remembered the issue with the black card. He forgot to ask his father why the black card he gave him couldn’t be used.
The places he and Zheng Anran went to were all expensive, and Fu Yining hadn’t been providing him with his usual allowance. If this kept up, his salary would start to suffer.
But Yu Mingze, being a man with pride, naturally wouldn’t tell Zheng Anran about this.
Unaware of this, Zheng Anran affectionately held his arm, her voice sweet and soft, "Mingze, let’s go to XX. I want to buy a new bag!"
"Okay!"
Yu Mingze gritted his teeth, clutching his wallet with a heartache as if it was bleeding.
For the first time, the pampered Young Master Yu Mingze, who had always lived in luxury, was feeling the pinch of financial strain.
==========
Shanhai Bay.
After breakfast, Fu Yining saw Mr. Yu off as he headed back to work and immediately turned to Song Qingyu. "Are you free today?"
"What does Mom want to do? I'm not filming any videos today."
"That's good. Let's go out together!"
Fu Yining wanted Song Qingyu to understand that the one giving her money isn't necessarily her husband—it could be her manipulative mother-in-law; and the one treating her well might not be the male lead, but the villainous female side character.
Song Qingyu smiled and nodded eagerly. "Okay, Mom. I'll go change my clothes and be right back."
"Go ahead."
Fu Yining waited downstairs for her.
Butler Wang Yue approached her and said, "Madam, the gifts for Mr. Fu and Mrs. Fu that you asked me to prepare are ready."
"Good, thank you, Butler Wang."
Since Fu Yining was going back to her family, she asked Wang Yue to help prepare gifts for her parents.
Wang Yue was well-versed in this routine because, in the past, "Miss Fu" would visit the Fu family every month without fail, after crying about her troubles to her parents before returning.
After reporting his work, Wang Yue stepped aside to direct the other staff, not surprised by Fu Yining's polite demeanor.
Not long ago, he had noticed Fu Yining's unusual behavior and privately discussed it with the master of the house. The master had only told him that the current Madam was now normal and that before, it was as if she had been sick.
Wang Yue had carefully pondered the master's words and realized that the truth inside was likely beyond his imagination. So in recent days, he had stopped paying close attention to Fu Yining's behavior, focusing his mind back on his work.
This was the secret to Wang Yue's ability to work in the Yu family for so many years and rise to the well-deserved position of head butler.
"Mom, I'm ready, let's go!"
"Hmm."
Fu Yining went out to buy some new clothes for herself and Song Qingyu, and to see if there were any other gifts she could bring for her parents.
The weather was getting colder, and the autumn and winter clothes sent from outside didn't suit Fu Yining's taste, so she wanted to pick them out herself.
Song Qingyu's belly was starting to show, and even a slightly fitted top couldn't hide the swell of her abdomen anymore.
After more than a month of interactions, her words and actions in front of Fu Yining had become increasingly bold. She even dared to knock on Fu Yining's door late at night just to say, "Mom, I think I've gained weight again."
Fu Yining really didn't know whether this was a blessing or a curse.
They climbed into the car, and the driver followed their instructions to take them to Jingtangli Pedestrian Street.
Following her usual route, Fu Yining led Song Qingyu to a few of her favorite stores. One of them was a store that delivered seasonal clothing to her home.
Seeing the English brand name outside, Song Qingyu hesitated for a moment but chose to follow Fu Yining closely.
"Miss Fu, how come you came here personally? Welcome, welcome!" The receptionist greeted them enthusiastically.
Fu Yining pointed to Song Qingyu beside her and said, "Pick a few pieces that fit her size, and bring them over. Preferably in pink."
Noticing that Fu Yining remembered her favorite color, Song Qingyu couldn't help but smile.
"Alright, please have a seat and wait for a moment! Xiao He, quickly serve tea to these two guests!"
"Sure, Lingling!"
Song Qingyu looked at the several staff members in the spacious room, bustling around to serve just the two of them, and felt genuinely touched.
"Miss Fu, and Song Qingyu, please have some tea."
"Thank you."
Song Qingyu thanked her and noticed that Miss He didn’t seem to know about her relationship with Fu Yining and didn’t call her by name.
Just by looking at them, you’d think they were sisters. Who would ever guess they were mother-in-law and daughter-in-law?
Soon, the woman Miss He called 'Lingling' came over to them. She was holding several brand-new dresses and skirts.
"Miss Fu, what do you think of these? I’ve selected them based on her measurements."
Lingling had a great eye for style. Customers rarely disliked the styles she picked.
To be honest, they’re not nearly as harsh to their cheating son as they should be
