Chapter 7: Don’t Even Think About Bullying My Daughter
byChapter 7: Don't Even Think About Bullying My Daughter
"You, child, what nonsense are you spouting?"
Su Zhenyun gazed at his daughter's obedient demeanor with a heart full of pain. He then smirked as if remembering something.
"Kang thinks his precious son is some heavenly gifted genius. Back then, he only passed the scholar exam thanks to the expensive tutor I hired for him. When it became clear that he had no further progress in his studies, he switched to a military path. If not for me spending tens of thousands of silver to pave his way in the army, he wouldn't even be a petty officer, let alone a captain!
"If he dares to tarnish Nuan Nuan's reputation, I'll take back everything I've given him!
"As long as I'm alive, nobody will ever bully my daughter!"
Su Youyue's eyes widened. After a moment, her nose stung with emotion.
Her father was a scholar, always one to uphold propriety. He would never use such crude language unless he was genuinely furious.
He had been planning for her future much earlier than she knew, and... had truly protected her until his very last day...
"Daddy," Su Youyue couldn't hold back her tears anymore. "Yue'er has been unfilial, causing Father and Grandmother humiliation. It won't happen again!"
At first, Madam Su and Su Zhenyun thought she was crying over the broken engagement. But hearing her words, they realized that their child was upset about their own humiliation. Their hearts melted, and they stroked her head, consoling her for a long while.
Then, Madam Su instructed the butler to fetch numerous jewels and accessories from the storeroom to send to Su Youyue's room.
Watching her grandmother and father coddle her like a child, Su Youyue, who had been an adult for more than a decade in her previous life, found the scene both amusing and poignant. She hadn't acted like a child in years.
Despite being emotionally drained, Su Youyue didn't want to leave. However, her grandmother and father insisted that she rest. Not wanting to defy them, she obediently allowed Jin'er to wheel her away.
"Miss, I never expected that Lord actually did so much for you behind the scenes," Jin'er said, unwilling to dwell on the topic of the broken engagement, which might upset her mistress. "Hehe, when Third Miss finds out about all these new jewels, she'll be envious! I bet she won't dare to speak ill of you anymore!"
Recalling Su Rong, who had always openly clashed with her in her previous life, Su Youyue felt no strong emotions. The hatred she once felt wasn't as intense now; she simply still disliked her.
Though Su Rong was malicious, her wickedness was out in the open. In contrast, her other stepsister, Su Qian, feigned amiability while secretly employing underhanded tactics.
The misfortune she had endured was all due to this person. It was only after she took charge of the household in her previous life that she gradually uncovered the clues of the past.
Even the incident where she slapped Xie Yuan and today's provocation by Su Rong to make her cause a scene in the main hall, demanding not to break off the engagement – all were somehow connected to Su Qian!
Yet on the surface, Su Qian had left the mansion two days prior to visit Vairocana Temple and seek Master Hongde's guidance in meditation. Nobody would suspect her involvement in any of this.
Su Youyue offered a mocking smile, not uttering a word, and allowed Jin'er to push her wheelchair a few steps forward. Just as expected, they spotted Su Rong peeking around the corner, trying to observe the situation stealthily.
Su Rong's expression was filled with suspicion, as if she was trying to grasp the situation. Why would the Lu family leave in such a huff? Su Youyue, on the other hand, wore an impassive face. Was the marriage called off, or not?
In her opinion, it would be best to back down, letting Su Youyue become the laughingstock of the entire Imperial City!
