Chapter 191 – I Like Literati the Least
by 兔丸子Chapter 191 - I Like Literati the Least
Su Youyue had just returned to the Su Mansion and arrived at the Wisteria Garden when Xia Hua came over and said, "Young Miss, earlier, Master came to our courtyard looking for you."
"Did he say what it was about?" Su Youyue asked.
If it were Chun Ya, she wouldn’t need to ask such questions. However, although Xia Hua was more simple-minded than Chun Ya, she was honest and straightforward in her work.
Xia Hua then replied, "Master said he got some good tea and wanted Young Miss to taste it. Also, the palace bestowed several bolts of new fabrics, which are all for making clothes for you. There are also a few sets of jewelry..."
Hearing this, Su Youyue knew that her father had once again sent everything to her without thinking.
The best approach would be to hand these items over to the steward, who could then distribute them to each residence.
However, every year, her father would send everything to her in one go. In previous years, she would then have her two younger sisters come over to pick out their shares. Over time, this inevitably led to Su Qian and Su Rong harboring grievances.
Last year, she had already instructed her father to hand the items over to the steward for distribution. Yet, this year, he forgot again. It might also be because he was so angry with what Su Qian had done previously that he inadvertently neglected Su Rong even more.
"What good things? Let me see them too!" Dr. Ji suddenly said from the side.
Only then did Xia Hua notice the extra person beside the young miss, staring at her in a daze.
She didn’t know where the young miss had brought this woman from. She looked very young, yet clearly older than the young miss. Xia Hua couldn’t guess her age or understand why a woman who looked like nobility would have such a bold demeanor.
Since those items still needed the young miss’s approval and hadn’t been put away yet, Xia Hua glanced at them placed in the main hall.
Dr. Ji ran inside with great interest, took a look around, and then sighed, "Your father is really good to you. So many good things, they make my mouth water. Sigh, I can’t compete with your father!"
Su Youyue was used to her personality but still felt a bit embarrassed by her words. She wondered what kind of family could raise a woman like Dr. Ji.
"If Dr. Ji likes them, feel free to choose a few pieces."
Su Youyue, feeling somewhat guilty towards Dr. Ji, was naturally generous. However, she wasn’t lacking in these things herself.
"You said it, I won’t hold back then." Dr. Ji said excitedly before starting to sort through the items.
However, after touching and examining them, she ended up not taking anything: "Forget it."
Su Youyue couldn’t help but ask, "What’s wrong, Dr. Ji?"
Dr. Ji sighed, "They’re good things, but I have no use for them. As a doctor who saves lives, dressing too well is a burden. And I don’t like drinking tea either."
"What do you like to drink? I’ll have someone arrange it for you," Su Youyue offered, wanting to ensure the other party was comfortable since she was asking for their assistance.
"I...love drinking fruit wine that I brew myself. It seems people in Great Shen don’t enjoy it much. Never mind, I’ll just drink some plain water," Dr. Ji said as she sat down.
"Fruit wine? We have it in the Su Mansion!" Jin’er exclaimed happily, "Our master loves fruit wine too, so he personally brews it every year. However, our mistress keeps a close watch on him and doesn’t let him drink too much, so there’s plenty of fruit wine at home..."
Su Youyue also remembered this.
If Dr. Ji wanted rare treasures, Su Youyue would have a hard time obtaining them, no matter how wealthy she was. But as for fruit wine, they indeed had plenty.
She would need to inform her father first, though, as he usually treated that fruit wine like a treasure.
"Really? That’s great! What flavors do you have? Bring me a few jars. I was kidnapped by your man and haven’t had a taste along the way. I’m dying for some!" Dr. Ji said excitedly.
Su Youyue had no choice but to agree, "I’ll send someone to fetch it from Father. Chun Ya, please settle Dr. Ji in. Jin’er, take Zhe Jing and these two to the Autumn Wind Courtyard where the guards reside."
Zhe Jing had brought two others with him, and they seemed even more reserved, not uttering a word during the journey. However, Su Youyue knew that these two were also secret guards under Xie Yuan’s command.
The Autumn Wind Courtyard was where the inner courtyard guards lived. The guards in the inner courtyard generally received better treatment than ordinary guards. When she hadn’t arranged for Xie Yuan to stay there initially, it was because she feared it would attract the attention of the late emperor.
After both maids acknowledged the instructions, they led their respective groups out.
Jin’er walked towards the Autumn Wind Courtyard with Zhe Jing and the other two guards, tilting her head to look at Zhe Jing as they went.
Walking like this, it was only a matter of time before something happened. Just as her head was about to bump into the wall, Zhe Jing couldn’t help but remind her, "Miss Jin’er, you’re going to hit the wall."
"Huh?" Jin’er realized it belatedly and quickly stepped aside, but doing so almost caused her head to collide with the wall instead.
Zhe Jing raised his hand in time to prevent her from hitting her head, but she bumped into his hand instead.
"I... I’m sorry!" Jin’er apologized after accidentally hitting Zhe Jing’s hand.
In truth, she had been captivated by a strange sense of familiarity from this young man, causing her to become engrossed and lose track of her surroundings.
Zhe Jing chuckled lightly, "It’s okay. Miss Jin’er, just be more careful when walking next time."
Jin’er smiled awkwardly and agreed, quickly changing the topic to introduce the Autumn Wind Courtyard to Zhe Jing and explain where they should go to get their meals.
As Zhe Jing listened, he nodded occasionally, seemingly paying close attention.
His companions exchanged glances, thinking to themselves that Zhe Jing had already thoroughly familiarized himself with every part of the Su Mansion when their master first arrived.
They were impressed that he could maintain such a convincing act in front of a little maid, no wonder he was one of the leaders of their secret guard unit. He was truly dedicated.
After escorting everyone to the Autumn Wind Courtyard, Jin’er left. Before departing, she couldn’t resist taking another glance at the handsome young man.
The young man by Lord Xie’s side was truly good-looking and gentle. She couldn’t help but swoon!
Later, she would instruct the kitchen staff to prepare better meals for this young man and his companions!
Meanwhile, Chun Ya escorted Dr. Ji to the Warm Green Courtyard.
Since the Warm Green Courtyard was close to the Wisteria Garden, they didn’t have to walk far and didn’t encounter many people along the way.
Upon arriving at the Warm Green Courtyard, Dr. Ji looked around and, seeing that the residence was indeed nice, nodded in satisfaction. "The decoration style of your Su Mansion is unique and suits my taste."
Chunya, showing particular respect to the divine doctor who had cured her young miss's legs, added, "I heard that the decoration of the Su Mansion was arranged by our Lady back then. She was a renowned woman of talent in those days."
"A woman of talent?" Divine Doctor Ji found it uninteresting. She disliked literati with their affected speech the most, and always felt the urge to punch them a couple of times to make them speak plainly.
So she secretly curled her lips, then exclaimed, "I feel like having some alcohol. Can you ask your young miss to arrange it for me quickly, Miss?"
