Chapter 688: The End of the Jinjing Arc
by 兔丸子Chapter 688: The End of the Jinjing Arc
On the day of Zhe Jing and Jin'er's wedding, Su Youyue had been mentally preparing herself for many days, but she still couldn't help but tear up.
Her Jin'er, in this lifetime, would never again be that cold, lifeless corpse. She would marry a wonderful man, have children, and live a blissful life.
"My lady, please don't cry. If you cry, I’ll start crying too," Jin'er said. She had been overjoyed every day leading up to this, not understanding why anyone would cry over such a happy occasion.
But now, in this moment, she finally felt the difference.
This was an extremely important moment in her life, and the people by her side were all those she cared about. Just thinking about it made her want to cry.
She and her lady had grown up side by side and were now witnessing each other's significant life events. It was so touching that it brought tears to her eyes.
Chunya quickly intervened, "Jin'er, don't cry! Today, I specifically asked the makeup lady to make you look beautiful. You are the most beautiful bride today. If you ruin your makeup, what will Zhe Jing do when he comes to pick up a little smudged kitten?"
Jin'er quickly stiffened her face to hold back the tears.
Su Youyue also composed herself, pulling out a gold filigree hairpin inlaid with gemstones and floral tassels from her sleeve. She carefully pinned it into Jin'er's hair and then looked at her reflection in the mirror, smiling, "Jin'er, you look absolutely stunning."
Jin'er had a round face and round eyes, naturally adorable in appearance. But today's makeup made her glow, enhancing her charm and making her exceptionally lovely.
"My lady, this... this is too extravagant," Jin'er said, though she loved it, she felt too shy to accept it. She glanced at Chunya.
Both she and Chunya were the lady's chief maids, but she knew that the lady favored her more. This time, the lady had already gifted her several chests of jewelry and three thousand taels of silver as a dowry. Now, she was giving her something so valuable. What would Chunya think?
Su Youyue smiled, "It’s not too much. Jin'er deserves nothing but the best."
Chunya also laughed, "You, still being so formal with the lady."
Their lady was known for her generosity, and Jin'er had a deeper bond with her. Chunya wouldn't fuss over such matters. Her perspective had long expanded beyond the confines of this household.
As they were talking, the sound of firecrackers suddenly burst outside.
"The groom’s here to get the bride!" someone outside excitedly shouted.
The women inside, who had been emotional moments before, now grew tense and excited.
"Quick, quick, put on the bridal veil."
"Where's the red silk? Where did the red silk go?"
After a flurry of activity, the room was finally set. The commotion outside grew louder, and the voices of men could be heard.
"Zhe Ying, why are you the one guarding the door today?" Zhe Jing sounded somewhat surprised.
Zhe Ying replied seriously, "The master instructed me to. Today, I have to keep the door tightly shut. I can’t let you take Jin'er away without a fight, or my lady will be heartbroken."
"Oh, and there are other brothers too..."
A line of shadow guards stood blocking the entrance.
"Hold on, we’re here too," Gao Sheng said, pulling Li Ying along.
Zhe Jing, holding the red silk, looked up at the tightly closed door behind the crowd, eager to burst through.
Hearing the commotion outside, Jin'er lifted her veil and, along with the other sisters, peeked through the crack in the door to see what was happening.
Seeing Zhe Jing being given a hard time outside, her heart instantly melted, and she even wanted to go out herself.
"Oh dear, bride, why are you peeking too? Hurry up and sit back down." The matchmaker inside quickly pulled her back.
Overhearing this from outside, Zhe Jing finally exerted force and managed to outmatch Gao Sheng, who was known for his iron grip.
"Ah, it's only because I feel for you, buddy, eager to see your new bride, that I let you win. Go on, go on." Gao Sheng secretly shook his numb wrist behind his back, trying to ease the pain.
This guy, who usually can't beat me, really stepped up when it came to marrying his bride!
Without a word, Zhe Jing made his way to the door.
Just as the matchmaker was about to block the last door, Jin'er flung it open.
"Zhe Jing!"
Though she was veiled, Zhe Jing knew it was his bride and quickly handed her the red silk.
Jin'er grabbed it without hesitation: "My lady, I'm off to get married, I'll be back tonight..."
Su Youyue's urge to cry disappeared in an instant, and she hurriedly interrupted: "Don't come back tonight, okay?"
Glancing at Zhe Jing's pleading look, she quickly added: "Don't come back for the next few days, alright?"
Only then did Zhe Jing break into a smile, pulling Jin'er close and whispering softly in her ear: "Jin'er, my lady says you shouldn't come back for the next few days."
Under the veil, Jin'er's face turned deep red.
After all, it was her first time being a bride, and she had no experience, forgetting that tonight was the wedding night.
Holding the red silk, they stepped out to the cheers and blessings of everyone.
Though it was called a wedding procession, the courtyard Zhe Jing bought was only two streets away from the Xie residence, and the bridal sedan made a couple of extra loops around the streets.
Sitting in the sedan, Jin'er's mind swung between joy and nervousness, until she didn't know what to think anymore.
But suddenly, a scene flashed through her mind.
She suddenly remembered a time when she was running an errand for her lady, she almost fell and was caught by a young man.
Though the young man was quite ordinary in appearance, and she couldn't recall his exact features, she clearly remembered he had used his sword scabbard to catch her.
She also remembered his elegant demeanor, which was quite charming.
And at that time, she had cried out in pain before actually falling, even lying that it was a toothache.
No wonder that scene felt so familiar; it wasn't something that had happened in a dream.
Jin'er shook her head, trying to push the thought aside, but couldn't help recalling it.
She felt that the young man's demeanor was so similar to Zhe Jing's.
Remembering that her man was skilled in disguise, Jin'er grew suspicious.
It wasn't until after the wedding ceremony, entering the bridal chamber, and seeing Zhe Jing about to go out to toast, that she finally had the chance to grab him.
"What is it, Jin'er?" Zhe Jing looked down, his gaze tender enough to melt anyone.
Jin'er finally asked: "Zhe Jing, I just remembered... a long time ago, a young man caught me with his sword scabbard when I almost fell. That person..."
"It's me," Zhe Jing replied directly, a smile on his lips. "I was planning to tell you tonight to see if you’d remember. I didn’t expect you to recall it yourself."
Jin'er had only been guessing, but she hadn’t expected it to actually be him.
She suddenly felt that their connection was more than just a small thing.
So she pulled Zhe Jing and said, "So even back then, I already thought you were handsome. Indeed, my taste has always been consistent."
Seeing Zhe Jing’s surprised look, Jin'er pursed her lips into a smile, rose on her tiptoes, and kissed him on the lips.
After kissing him, she whispered softly, "Husband, come back soon."
This completely enchanted Zhe Jing, making him reluctant to go out and toast.
So he kissed her back, said "Wait for me," and went out.
Jin'er thought he wouldn’t return until it was dark, so she sat back on the wedding bed.
But who knew that just as she sat down, Zhe Jing came back again.
"Why are you back? Did you forget something?" she asked in surprise.
Zhe Jing shook his head, "Jin'er, I’m done with the toasting. I’m here to be with you."
"So soon? But I remember there were many guests."
"I’m done with the toasting. Being with you is what matters most."
In the courtyard, Zhe Ying, Gao Sheng, Li Ying, and the shadow guards watched the guests who had already been toasted by Zhe Jing and were now coming to toast them, deep in thought.
