Chapter 366: No Intention to Flee
by 兔丸子Chapter 366: No Intention to Flee
The campfire was reduced to embers, with only a few sparks remaining, and the woman beside it sobbed softly.
Tuoba Xiao assumed Su Youyue had woken up and barked coldly, "Shut up."
However, there was no response. When he got up, he realized she hadn't woken at all; her face was flushed, tears welled in her eyes, and she shivered uncontrollably. The medicine seemed to have no effect.
He cursed again, unusually irritable, but had nowhere to vent his anger. He muttered a few curses into the air, turned abruptly, and disappeared into the rain-soaked night.
The white wolf lifted its head, watching his silhouette for a moment, its eyes seemingly filled with even more confusion.
After a long while, Tuoba Xiao returned from outside, drenched by the rain. His black clothes were darker, and his silver accessories gleamed brighter. As he entered, he brought a chill of moisture with him.
He crushed the herbs he had gathered into juice and fed it to Su Youyue on the ground, using water. Just as he was about to stand up, he noticed her legs curling unnaturally and remembered that Xiaoyue had bitten her earlier.
Tuoba Xiao restrained himself from throwing her out, tore open the rough cloth covering her leg, and applied the remaining medicine almost aggressively. He then shook off the excess juice from his hands and glared fiercely at the woman on the ground.
"If you dare wake me up again, I'll strangle you."
Of course, he had no patience to tend to her non-lethal wounds. After wiping his hands, he angrily returned to his sleeping spot. Just as he was about to sleep, he remembered something and let out an impatient sigh, tossing the blanket he had been using onto Su Youyue.
"You better be useful..."
Tuoba Xiao's tone carried a threat, implying that if Su Youyue failed, her fate would be dire.
But in her unconscious state, Su Youyue could not respond. With proper care, she finally stopped having nightmares and fell into a deep sleep.
Early the next morning, she was rudely awakened.
"Get up, we're leaving."
Tuoba Xiao woke her up coldly, his patience seemingly exhausted.
Su Youyue regained consciousness, enduring the pain throughout her body, and quickly assessed her situation. She asked hoarsely, "General Tuoba, where are we going?"
Although being with Tuoba Xiao temporarily protected her from the King of Rong's men, she did not feel safe with him.
Tuoba Xiao raised an eyebrow. "Where? Naturally, wherever I go, you go."
Though she had anticipated this, Su Youyue still felt a pang of disappointment. "If it's convenient, General Tuoba, could you take me to Lu House in Wen City? Our family will offer generous thanks."
"Inconvenient," the young man replied bluntly. "I said, wherever I go, you go."
Seeing that she wanted to say more, he sneered. "It seems Miss Su doesn't understand her situation. You have no choice."
Su Youyue closed her mouth, unwilling to argue with someone unreasonable. Besides, she couldn't afford to provoke him.
"Where does General Tuoba plan to go?" she asked instead.
Tuoba Xiao glanced at her, his eyes filled with impatience.
Su Youyue fell silent, no longer asking questions. Instead, she quietly got up, preparing to follow him outside.
As she moved, the blanket slipped off her, revealing that she had been covered with it. She also noticed that the pants around her calf had been torn, and the wound had been treated with medicine.
She knew better than to question whether Tuoba Xiao had seen her leg.
Limping, she followed Tuoba Xiao outside. Before they reached their destination, the white wolf darted ahead.
The weather had unexpectedly cleared, and everything glistened under the sun, including the wolf's fur, which looked like pristine snow.
Despite the pain in her leg, Su Youyue was secretly relieved that the wolf hadn't bitten through her bones or tendons last night.
However, walking like this was clearly not a viable option.
Just as she hesitated, Tuoba Xiao circled around the wooden hut and led out a magnificent chestnut horse. This horse was noticeably larger and more elegant than ordinary horses, exuding a similar pride to its owner.
Before Su Youyue could react, Tuoba Xiao mounted the horse and, without warning, lifted her onto it as if she were a chicken. She landed on the horse in a prone position.
The sensation of being suspended on the horse made Su Youyue pale. Instinctively, she tried to grab something, but just as she reached for the saddle, the young man kicked the horse's belly and charged forward.
Su Youyue was jolted twice, causing her stomach to ache severely. She had to grip tightly, hoping it would give her the strength to endure the ordeal.
After an indeterminate amount of time, she nearly fainted from the constant jolting and nausea when Tuoba Xiao suddenly reined in the horse, nearly throwing her off.
Before she could hear what Tuoba Xiao said, she retched twice.
"Dismount for inspection!" someone shouted from ahead.
Su Youyue vaguely heard the young man beside her laugh.
The officials blocking the road, seeing his attitude, became furious and approached, muttering curses.
As they drew closer, they finally noticed Tuoba Xiao's heterochromatic eyes and realized he was from Dongrong Country, not Great Shen.
The twenty or so officials paused, huddled together, and the one who had initially shouted changed his tone, fawning, "Brother, our court has lost a fugitive. We are ordered to inspect everyone. Please cooperate."
When Su Youyue finally regained her senses, she immediately understood that these people were likely sent by the King of Rong to search for her.
Seeing that they carried portraits and were looking at her face, she quickly turned away, her heart racing.
So many people...
Would Tuoba Xiao hand her over to them?
She was wildly guessing when the group of officials saw that Tuoba Xiao remained silent and assumed he had agreed, so they approached with laughter.
As they were about to reach him, they suddenly saw a white shadow flash before their eyes, and in the next second, cries of agony rang out in the crowd.
"Wolf, there's a wolf!" someone screamed in terror.
"Quick, kill this beast!" The group of officials lost their composure.
Before they could react, Tuoba Xiao charged at them on his horse.
Just as Su Youyue thought that Tuoba Xiao was planning to have the white wolf distract them and lead her through, she suddenly felt a splash of warm liquid on her face, even getting into her eyes and nose.
The strong smell of blood filled her nostrils, and at that moment, she finally saw a severed head rolling on the ground, spurting blood as it tumbled.
In shock, she even made eye contact with the eyes on that head.
Tuoba Xiao was killing!
From the very beginning, he had no intention of fleeing!
