Chapter 197 – Seeing Ghosts?
by 兔丸子Chapter 197 - Seeing Ghosts?
Zhe Jing was always decisive in his actions. At this moment, looking at the drunk Su Zhenyun, a hint of helplessness flashed across his eyes.
He could only give a nod to the other two guards. "Sir, we are the new guards in the manor."
Receiving his signal, the two men quickly stepped forward and supported Su Zhenyun together.
"No, I'm not leaving..." Su Zhenyun struggled, but his strength was negligible compared to the guards who trained in martial arts all year round. They were about to take him to the head of the family's residence.
Unexpectedly, Su Zhenyun started struggling violently. "Let me go, Xi Xue... Xi Xue..."
The two guards didn't know why Minister Su reacted so strongly. For a moment, they had to be cautious not to hurt him while also trying to take him away, which was quite inconvenient.
Just then, Doctor Ji suddenly approached.
Seeing her, Su Zhenyun immediately calmed down. "Xi Xue."
Ji Qingyan suddenly smiled brightly at the man, who stared dumbfoundedly, gazing at her with a dazed smile.
In the next second, the woman suddenly raised her hand and struck his neck, knocking him unconscious.
"Alright, take him away now!" Ji Qingyan clapped her hands.
The two guards looked at her in astonishment.
This was Minister Su, their master's future father-in-law, which was why they dared not easily touch him. They hadn't expected Doctor Ji to act so swiftly.
Zhe Jing waved his hand, signaling the two to take Minister Su away. They hurriedly left with him.
"I've disturbed Doctor Ji. Tonight's incident was unexpected, but it's late and there's a heavy snowfall. Please return to rest, Doctor Ji, to avoid catching a cold." Zhe Jing's tone was unhurried yet firm and brooked no refusal.
Ji Qingyan pursed her lips. Although she did want to scout the manor for an easy escape route, she hadn't planned on running tonight.
Besides, she had agreed to help treat the eldest Miss Su's leg. She wouldn't leave until she had cured her.
These people watched her like she was a thief, and it annoyed her.
"Got it, got it. I'll go back, okay?" She answered impatiently before leisurely heading back.
Indeed, the environment of the Su Manor suited her taste, especially after the snowfall, imbuing it with a unique charm.
In the blink of an eye, the bustling garden fell silent.
Li Rong, who had been searching for Minister Su, was almost in tears. Unable to find anyone, he returned to the courtyard to seek help from the night watchmen. But when he arrived, the night watchman said,
"Uncle Rong, you're back."
Li Rong anxiously said, "You guys, come with me to look for the master. He's missing."
"Huh? The master? Isn't he resting in his room?" The guard looked confused. "Two new brothers just brought the drunk master back."
"Huh?" Li Rong was even more bewildered but overjoyed. He rushed into Su Zhenyun's bedroom to check.
Seeing that Su Zhenyun was indeed sleeping soundly in bed, the man nearly burst into tears of joy. The weight on his heart lifted, and he could finally have a peaceful New Year's Eve.
As dawn broke, the world was blanketed in a vast expanse of white.
Su Zhenyun woke up from his dream, his lips still curved upward.
"Xi Xue..."
When he opened his eyes and saw an entirely different environment than in his dream, he paused for a moment before closing his eyes again, hoping to return to that dream and continue where he left off.
But his mind grew increasingly clear, and he couldn't fall asleep anymore.
After a long while, he reluctantly rose from bed, filled with regret.
For the first time in years, he dreamed of Xi Xue returning to his side, watching pear blossoms together. Yet, he woke up before he could say much to her.
As Su Zhenyun lamented, the attendant serving him heard movement inside and knew his master had woken up. He quickly called for hot water to serve him.
After using a warm towel to wash his face and sitting down to drink a steaming cup of tea, Su Zhenyun's memories from the previous night, different from his dream, began to resurface.
"That's not right... Xi Xue! It really was Xi Xue who came back!"
He sprang up, startling the attendant who was about to pour water. "Master?"
"I, I really saw her. Where is she?" Su Zhenyun was flustered, his excitement evident as he grabbed the attendant and asked where she was.
The attendant was even more frightened, spilling most of the water. "Who is Master talking about?"
"My wife! My wife!" Su Zhenyun's eyes were red.
The attendant couldn't help trembling. What was wrong with the master? Had he gone mad?
Hadn't his wife died fifteen years ago?
He knew the master had never forgotten his wife, but he had never searched for her like this before!
Oh no, on the first day of the New Year, their master had lost his mind.
"Master, what's wrong?" Li Rong arrived and saw his master's possessed expression, prompting him to rush forward.
Su Zhenyun released the attendant and grabbed Li Rong. "Uncle Rong, I saw Xi Xue. I really saw her, right here in our manor!"
Li Rong was stunned. Early in the morning, what nonsense was the master talking about? Was he sleepwalking or dreaming?
"Master, did you not sleep well last night?" Li Rong asked the night watchman beside him.
The servant boy was on the verge of tears, "Uncle Rong, last night, Master slept soundly and didn't get up all night."
Hearing this, Li Rong's face darkened; could it be that something unclean had possessed his master, just like the young lady from the Jinghai Hou Mansion before?
Despite his concerns, Li Rong tried to remain rational, "Master, I stayed with you last night and didn't see Madam. Perhaps, out of concern for your loneliness, she came to meet you in a dream for the New Year."
Su Zhenyun shook his head vigorously, "No, I really saw Xi Xue!"
Seeing Li Rong's exasperated expression, Su Zhenyun forced himself to calm down, "I admit I was a bit drunk last night, but later, after I got rid of you, I saw Xi Xue and three unfamiliar guards who insisted on escorting me back!"
Initially, Li Rong didn't believe his master, but as he heard more, he became astonished.
From the master's tone, it didn't seem like he was confused, and some details matched what happened last night.
Could it be that the master really encountered a ghost?
"Xi Xue must be in the mansion; she couldn't have died then. She's come back to find me! I need to see her!"
With that, Su Zhenyun pushed past Li Rong and ran out.
"Master! Put on some clothes first!" Li Rong was bewildered by his master's claims, but seeing him sprinting through the icy snow without an overcoat, he panicked and grabbed a robe from the rack to chase after him.
