Chapter 10: Winning Him Over
byChapter 10: Winning Him Over
Su Youyue narrowed her eyes and sighed softly.
Now that she had returned to the moment after she had whipped Xie Yuan, it was best to mend their relationship as soon as possible. If she could remove those scars, even better. That way, the living devil wouldn't be reminded of her every time he saw them...
So, she decided to deliver the medicine personally.
Seeing Su Youyue's sincere determination to treat Xie Yuan well in the future, Jin'er finally held her in higher regard and hurriedly escorted her to Si'an Garden.
Heavy snow had fallen, causing many tasks in the estate to come to a halt. The servants in Si'an Garden were unusually idle, sitting on benches by the hall to warm themselves by the fire while sipping hot tea.
"Why did the Lady let him return? In my opinion, the son of such a despicable traitor should have frozen to death – that would have been ridding society of a plague!'
"The man was sent by Third Princess. If he were to die in Lady's hands, Third Princess would have another excuse to trouble Lady. In my view, it's better for him to live, so Lady can whip him every day for ten or twenty years. Let him suffer to the point where life is worse than death. It serves him right for his father being a treacherous villain who harmed so many innocent people!"
"Indeed. He watched helplessly as his parents and two elder brothers were beheaded before him. Living must be a torment! The former Crown Prince was heartless too, plotting against the Emperor. His tendons were severed by Third Prince and he was thrown into the Imperial Clan Court. He deserves his fate."
The voices from outside drifted lightly into the room. The young man's veins bulged as he listened, seemingly aware that killing these people would be futile. After much restraint, he turned to look at the man.
"My Lord, I initially thought that seeking refuge in the Su family for a while would be a safe haven, but I never expected the Su family's eldest daughter, a woman, to be so ruthless. Allow me, your servant, to eliminate her and then plan anew for Your Highness the Crown Prince."
The man's body was covered in whip marks. With a slight exertion of strength in his hands, he tore apart his clothes that had adhered to his wounds. The barely scabbed-over injuries split open once more, bleeding a deep crimson.
Even the young man, who had undergone the rigorous training of the covert guards, couldn't help but furrow his brows at the sight.
Yet, Xie Yuan remained unperturbed, not even lifting an eyelid. He continued to swiftly remove the remaining adhered clothing, discarding the dirty garments before donning another. Only then did he speak with a calm voice.
"Your Highness has endured humiliation for so long that those individuals have slightly let their guard down. We mustn't provoke unnecessary complications. There will be ample time in the future to deal with the Su household."
"Yes," Zheyin gritted his teeth, reluctantly complying with the order. He promptly retrieved a bottle of medicine from his person and said, "Then, my lord, you should apply the ointment first."
Opening the vial, a soothing herbal scent instantly wafted out, indicating it was of superior quality. However, Xie Yuan merely cast a glance before closing it again.
"Explanations would be needed if others were to smell the medicine," he explained tersely, putting the bottle back in its place.
Upon hearing this, Zheyin's heart ached. With Su Youyue's silent acquiescence, the servants in the Su residence had been deliberately mistreating their master, making it all too easy for them to detect any medicinal scents on him.
Once a highly esteemed master, now he couldn't even use medicine for his injuries without concern.
When the time comes for our Master to turn the tables with His Highness, we'll make these people suffer, unable to live or die, especially the lady of the Su household!
Xie Yuan then inquired, "What about the investigation on Zhe Jing?"
Just as Zhe Jing was about to suppress his emotions and report, they were interrupted by the astonished voices of the servants outside.
"Miss?!"
Noticing the servants' astonishment, Su Youyue asked for the room where Xie Yuan was and dismissed them with a wave of her hand.
Taking two steps, she seemed to remember something and called back the supervisor, "Make it clear, Xie Yuan is my person. Anyone who dares to bully him had better weigh themselves first to see if they're strong enough to withstand his retaliation!"
The servants trembled in fear but were still confused. Was Miss planning to protect that son of a traitor from now on?
But why would they need to consider if they could withstand Xie Yuan's retaliation?
Well, Miss had always been capricious and ill-tempered. Who would dare reason with her?
Arriving at the door, Su Youyue hesitated for a moment before reluctantly knocking, her heart filled with trepidation.
A long silence ensued.
Just as she was almost convinced that Xie Yuan was not present, the door creaked open.
The man had changed into a new set of clothes, concealing his wounds as if they never existed, his tall and sturdy figure overwhelming Su Youyue, who sat small and delicate, leaving her momentarily breathless under his aura.
"Um... Xie Yuan, I brought some medicine for you," Su Youyue ventured, only to be met with another peculiar silence. Even the whispers of the servants ceased.
Seeing that Jin'er remained silent, she eventually mustered the courage to speak, "Young Miss has brought you medicine. Don't you hurry to accept it, Mister Xie?"
