Chapter 244: It's Me Again Who Forgot

Tobai Xiao finally noticed something was amiss. He furrowed his long, thick brows. "You don't remember?"

Su Youyue was about to shake her head when another intense, sharp pain shot through her head, and she couldn't help but raise her hand to hold her forehead.

    "Miss..." Chunya approached with concern.

Just as Su Youyue was about to say she was fine, a series of buried memories suddenly surged forward in her mind.

In an instant, thousands of vivid memory fragments flooded her brain, one after another, appearing before her eyes.

    She finally remembered.

She remembered that the reason she had participated in the horse race back then wasn't for a hairpin or out of bravado, but because she couldn't tolerate Tobai Xiao's arrogant provocation against Great Shen. She had immediately mounted her horse to challenge him. Initially, they were evenly matched, but halfway through, her horse suddenly went berserk and charged toward the crowd.

Fearing the horse might hurt others, Su Youyue turned it towards the forest.

The horse raced through the woods without hesitation, and she was scratched all over by branches, terrified and trying every method to stop the horse, but to no avail.

At that moment, a voice called out from behind: "Nuanuan!"

The voice, filled with extreme tension, trembled. Su Youyue looked back and saw Xie Yuan, the son of a corrupt official whom she despised at the time.

Unexpectedly, he had chased after her. And why did he call her Nuanuan?

    "Nuanuan, give me your hand!"

The young man, driven mad, urged his horse to match her speed, leaning almost entirely off his saddle, reaching out to pull her over.

In this life-or-death situation, Su Youyue didn't have time to wonder why he was saving her or why he knew her nickname; she simply reached out to grab his hand.

As their fingertips were about to touch, a branch suddenly appeared ahead. Xie Yuan shouted, "Nuanuan, watch out!" Su Youyue quickly dodged, narrowly avoiding the branch.

However, on the other side of the branch was a patch of thorns. The horse stepped on them and reared, throwing her onto a jagged rock.

    "Nuanuan!"

She heard a heart-wrenching cry, and then her memory paused for several seconds before the excruciating pain hit her, rendering her deaf.

Xie Yuan tumbled off his horse and knelt beside her, frantically checking her condition but unsure what to do.

His horse, having lost its reins when he jumped off, had already disappeared into the distance.

As blood poured from her wounds, the young man clumsily tried to cover the bleeding areas, but the blood kept flowing from everywhere.

He managed to find a wound and tried to press it, accidentally touching exposed bone, causing her to cry out in pain. Terrified, he pulled back his hand, not knowing how to save her. In desperation, he tore off his clothes to bandage her wounds.

Unbeknownst to them, both were covered in blood, but her major wounds were finally under control.

Dizzy and struggling to keep her eyes open, she thought, if she was going to die, at least she wanted to understand.

Why would he save her, the person who bullied him every day? She couldn't comprehend it.

"Xie... Xie Yuan, why are you saving me?" she asked weakly.

The young man gave a pained smile, worse than crying. "Nuanuan, I'm your Xiaopangzi. How could I not save you?"

    Xiaopangzi?

Su Youyue's childhood memories resurfaced, and she opened her eyes in disbelief. "You're Xiaopangzi? You came back?"

Xie Yuan nodded vigorously, reaching out with his bloodied hands to comfort her, but seeing the blood, he quickly withdrew them. "Nuanuan, don't talk anymore. I'll take you back to see a doctor."

With great care, he lifted her onto his back.

Despite his gentle movements, the pain was unbearable, making her wish she had died instead.

She sobbed uncontrollably on his back. "Xiaopangzi, it hurts so much!"

Every word made the young man's heart ache. "Good girl, once we get home, it won't hurt anymore. Think about it, you were always brave as a child, never afraid even when falling from trees."

Su Youyue thought about it and realized there was some truth to it. But wasn't she fearless because Xiaopangzi was always there to catch her?

    That was different.

Knowing Xie Yuan was Xiaopangzi, she managed to divert some attention from the pain. "Xiaopangzi, I didn't recognize you before. I even insulted you. I'm sorry..."

If she had known Xie Yuan was Xiaopangzi, she would never have insulted him.

Xie Yuan was indeed the son of a corrupt official, but if he was Xiaopangzi, he had done nothing wrong. This was the principle Su Youyue believed in.

"It's okay, as long as Nuanuan doesn't forget me again," the young man said, showing no resentment for her earlier insults.

Due to excessive blood loss, Su Youyue's vision blurred, and everything grew dark. Before losing consciousness, she whispered, "Don't worry, I won't forget you again..."

The memory returned, and sitting in her wheelchair, Su Youyue's mind replayed the heart-wrenching cry of the young Xie Yuan when he saw her fall from the horse.

Tears streamed down her face like broken pearls, one rolling down before another followed.

    "Xie Yuan... Xiaopangzi..."

How much had they missed in their previous lives?

Just thinking about it broke her heart into pieces, each fragment piercing her soul.

Her senses seemed to fade away, leaving her body and soul overwhelmed by the pain in her heart.

Su Youyue could only clutch her chest, crying and laughing, as if her heart was being torn from her chest.

    "It's me again, forgetting you..."

She had barely spoken the words when her tears fell once more.

Suddenly, she had an unprecedented urge to see Xie Yuan, to see him just once.
